Not a fan of that at all, especially if Naito is winning (which he should).

Naito hasnt exactly been getting great reactions. It seems like hardly anyone cares about him. The IC title match meanwhile received almost twice as many votes. It would be worse for both Naito and NJPW to put the title on him if people dont care about him. I'd expect Okada to win and Naito to quickly drop down the card. Devitt will likely also drop the Jr title at the same show, so he could move back into the main event picture in place of Naito. He was worth a shot, but he doesnt seem to have worked.

Yep spot on the Japanese fans have not liked Naito being shoved down their throats, especially when the likes of Ishii,Nakamura and Shibata have had the better year in ring and connecting with the fans.Would have rather had Natio vs Okada as the main but the fans have spoken.

I'd hate to be Okada working Naito he is totally DOA as a babyface and being over in general. He came out to silence at Power Struggle and out right slagging at today's Road to Toyko Dome show.

    I'd book a double turn.

Just watched my first ever NJPW match tonight. Mind blowing.

Would this match rate highly among Puro fans? Is this style typical of junior hweights? Anybody care to give me a brief outline of NJPW. As in what the different divisions are like, are there faces/heels, many gaijins etc.

Yes that was rated very highly especially with Low-Ki working as Agent 47,the juniors weren't focused on for much of the year with Ibushi sign up there should be more focus on the Junior division.

There is only the two different weight divisions but the heaveys have the world and ic titles and the ic title is very well booked that now with the Nakamura and Tanahashi match it is on the same level as the world title.

Their really aren't heels and faces like American wrestling Devitt and the bullet club are american heels but no one else is all out heel or all out face Tanahashi is a face most of the time then he will get the Cena treatment of some crowds.

The gaijins are very good with Devitt and the rest of the bullet club,Karl Anderson is great and has become brilliant on the mic WWE has been very interested in him,the young bucks are in now and i love the bucks.Davey Boy Smith jr has come on leaps and bounds since leaving WWE and had some great matches this year against Nakamura, his tag partner Lance Archer has improved a ton this year.

There you go anymore you need to know just ask.

Is Naito the same dude that was in TNA as part of No Limit? That's him with that smashing lariat I think? Short haired chap?

EDIT: Sorry it's Okada. Samoa Joe's lackey!!!! Jesus. He looks awesome

Rovert how many match of the year candidates do we have from this morning? Looking forward to seeing the show

Haven't seen the entire show between the Saturday shop and housework but the summation is here:
After three decent matches to open things up, followed by three sub par bouts, this show was up in the air going into the final four matches. The final four delivered big, and this ended up being a pretty great show. The main theme here, is this show was fun. Twitter was buzzing big time, and everybody had a great time. Throw in the fantastic entrances, and we are looking at what will surely be another show of the year contender for New Japan.

    http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2014/01/04/new-japan-pro-wrestling-wrestle-kingdom-8-review/

The Wrestlemania-ness of the show was better than the in ring show itself according to some.

They out WrestleMania-ed WrestleMania. An awesome live experience a couple of good matches early and the final four matches were all great.

Yep Wrestlemania has the money behind it obviously but New Japan is a LOT more imaginative and playful production wise.

Things seem to be on a futher uptick business wise. Today's show apparently drew 35,000 people up 20% on last year's attendance, they are doing two Dome shows this year instead of one and Dave Meltzer said the web traffic to his site was on par with upper tier UFC and WWE shows.

Not a mod but let's have gentleman's agreed about spoilers for now.

Amazing show having been to the last 7 Wrestlemanias this impressed me far more the lighting the production the entrances the big time feel and most importantly some great wrestling delighted we made the trip

My first ever NJPW PPV and it was very cool. Things I thought I it (spoiler free):

    - Taka Michinoku is actually very very funny in the ring. Comic genius in fact. A cool 4way for the junior heavyweight tag belts.

    - Machine Gun Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows are potty mouths! The language coming out of them during their entrance was a bit shocking , that the PG era for ya I guess.

    - The Bullet Club are pretty cool but they're definitely influenced by the Kliq or paying homage anyway. The crotch chops, saying 'Suck It' and doing the Wolfpac hand sign.

    - Kota Ibushi is an absolute star, as is Fergal Devitt. Killer match.

Looking forward to seeing a bit more of Japan's finest :)

They've said before they are paying homage to a lot of kliq stuff even telling Scott Hall he was an honorary Bullet Club member!

Kota Ibushi is excellent and has lovely hair.
A great show all round, some serious talent over there.

I want to go to a Wrestle Kingdom show one day.

I was sitting right in front of the stage and everything from graphics to videos to pyro to presentation to giving most entrances some kind of special element even if they're not main event guys was far above everything I've ever seen.

    A farce.

Both scared of strikes and one of them was most concern with keeping his pyjama top from opening.

From the latest Observer and the reason Devitt's match was "off" compared his previous matches with Ibushi:
Devitt was really sick with the flu the day before, shaking and throwing up. He was feeling a little better the day of the show, but not himself, and people were really impressed he went out there and had the match he did, as one of four straight **** or better matches that closed out the show.

He looked very gaunt without the body paint on him the show the day after the Tokyo Dome. I don't agreed with Dave's rating it was more in the ***1/4-1/2 range for me.
