G-1 Climax finals available for individual purchase

Due to so many complaints regarding G-1 only coming in a $150 package deal, New Japan and UStream have just announced that Sunday's final (Saturday at 11 p.m. Pacific time; 2 a.m. Sunday Eastern time) will be available for an individual purchase at http://www.ustream.tv/njpwsub

    for $30.

The G-1 finals, held at a sold out Tokyo Sumo Hall, is traditionally the second biggest New Japan show of the year.

Liable to get this wrong but I think it is 7am our time Sunday. It will be worth paying for to watch it live IMO. However it will probably be in all the usual places that evening.

Yeah, it's a 7am start for the final night.

Heard this morning's show was on par with Day 2 & 4. If so wow.

Could someone be so kind as to post a link to pay for the final tomorrow morning? Appreciated.

Purchased, will be a pleasure to watch this live, what a world we live in! Plus, more than justified given the amount I've watched on dailymotion et al the last week.

How does the final day work - is there another round of matches and then the finalists are decided?

8pm now and shops are probably closed but you should hook up your laptop to your TV with HDMI cable if you have one and the outlets on your TV for it.

Yeah I'll get it hooked up on the decent tv for all of it tomorrow morning. Can't wait, proper wrestling event.

Another round of matches. With those not in contention wrestling those who are to play "spoiler" so to speak. The wrestler with the highest points tally from Block A meets the wrestler with the highest points tally from Block B. If there is a tie in points in either block it is decided by a (lame) coin toss.

The field of contenders is probably too open for its own good simplicity wise with 10 possible contenders but equally it will be great for drama.
**Below are the point totals heading into the final day:

BLOCK A – Katsuyori Shibata (10), Davey Boy Smith Jr. (10), Togi Makabe (10), Hiroshi Tanahashi (9), Kazuchika Okada (9), Hirooki Goto (8), Prince Devitt (8), Lance Archer (6), Satoshi Kojima (6) and Tomohiro Ishii (6)

BLOCK B – Minoru Suzuki (10), Shinsuke Nakamura (10), Karl Anderson (10), Yujiro (8), Kota Ibushi (8), Yuji Nagata (8), Tetsuya Naito (8), Shelton Benjamin (8), Hiroyoshi Tenzan (6) and Toru Yano (6)

**Here are is the lineup for tomorrow’s Day 9 final event of the G-1 from Sumo Hall:
*Takashi Iizuka & Yoshi-Hashi vs. Kazushi Sakuraba & Akebono
    *Minoru Suzuki vs. Toru Yano
    *Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Shelton Benjamin
    *Tetsuya Naito vs. Karl Anderson
    *Yuji Nagata vs. Yujiro
*Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs. Lance Archer
    *Kazuchika Okada vs. Satoshi Kojima
    *Togi Makabe vs. Prince Devitt
    *Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Katsuyori Shibata
*Block A winner vs. Block B winner

**Going into tomorrow’s finals the following are still alive and here is what needs to for happen for each person to win:

    BLOCK A
*Katsuyori Shibata (vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi) – If Shibata wins then he needs Smith and Makabe to both tie or lose their matches, with a win Shibata would at worst be tied with Smith and Makabe, who he defeated in their tournament matches.
*Davey Boy Smith Jr. (vs. Lance Archer) – If Smith beats Archer then Shibata would have to tie or lose to Tanahashi and Makabe would have to tie or lose to Devitt
*Togi Makabe (vs. Prince Devitt) – If Makabe beats Devitt then Shibata and Smith would have to tie or lose
*Hiroshi Tanahashi (vs. Shibata) – If Tanahashi beats Shibata then both Smith Jr., Okada and Makabe would have to lose
*Kazuchika Okada (vs. Satoshi Kojima) – At best Okada can only tie for first with Shibata or Tanahashi if those two went the time limit or Tanahashi won along with Smith Jr. and Makabe either going to the time limit or losing

    BLOCK B
*Minoru Suzuki (vs. Toru Yano) – With a win Suzuki would be up to 12-points and would require both Karl Anderson and Shinsuke Nakamura to lose their matches, Suzuki beat both of them in their tournament matches. If Suzuki and Yano go the time limit Suzuki could still win if the other two tie or lose
*Karl Anderson (vs. Tetsuya Naito) – If Anderson wins or ties and Suzuki and Nakamura lose he would win
*Shinsuke Nakamura (vs. Shelton Benjamin) – If Nakamura wins or ties and Suzuki and Anderson lose he would win
*Yuji Nagata (vs. Yujiro) – Of the three above Nagata only beat Suzuki so if Nagata beat Yujiro, Suzuki lost his match and Nakamura and Anderson both lose he would win
*Tetsuya Naito (vs. Karl Anderson) – This one is interesting because if Naito wins tomorrow he has wins over all the people above so if he wins and the above lose then Naito would win the block in the event of a tie with all having 10-points

    Great work here:

Random question, but what's the deal with IGF these days? Do they even know what they are anymore?

Looking at their website and they list Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Booker T and many other well known people (both wrestlers and MMA fighters) on their roster page. But, their last show was only three matches and the longest was a 5 minute draw. Seemed like an MMA show, but the shows before hand had tag matches and everything with some matches lasting nearly 20 minutes. I assume the roster page is more an alumni list as I doubt Lesnar even remembers them.

Do they have an actual structure these days, or does Inoki just make it up as he goes?

I tried to keep track of the highlights of the G1 but there were just too many matches that were highly rated so I lost track. Just found a download consisting of the following:

    02. 2013.08.01 - Satoshi Kojima vs Hiroshi Tanahashi

    26. 2013.08.10 - Shinsuke Nakamura vs Tetsuya Naito
    27. 2013.08.10 - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Kazuchika Okada

    29. 2013.08.11 - Lance Archer vs Davey Boy Smith Jr.
    30. 2013.08.11 - Kazuchika Okada vs Satoshi Kojima

    32. 2013.08.11 - 23rd G1 Climax Tournament: FINAL

A running time of just over 8 hours. That'll keep me busy for a while as I didnt get to see everything due to losing track.

For anyone who watched it all in full, does anything look out of place in the above list?

Haven't seen any of the G1 Tournament but looking foward to checking it out. Do they release commercial DVDs of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 908 ✭✭✭Palo Alto

Probably in Japan which at least is the same dvd region, I saw them being sold on dvd on ebay but obviously pirated.

Was looking through different forums when i came across this http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?showtopic=20879 it's a project to rank the top 100 matches in Japan from 2000 to 2009.

There is a excel file that goes with it that has the links to the matches and a way to rank them here it is http://theditch.biz/BestOf2000s_Japan.xls in the file is over 300 matches the real important ones are bolded but i am going to try and watch them all,the deadline is next August so plenty of time if you are interested in Puroresu and haven't seen a lot from the early to mid 2000s i recommend watching the stuff in bold.Watching a lot of matches i wouldn't have otherwise.

Just exchanged pleasantries with Prince Devitt. Was surprisingly exhilarating. Is it lame to immediately go online to tell strangers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,520 ✭✭✭Hashtag_HEEL

I'm extremely jealous! May I ask where?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 894 ✭✭✭cian68

Bray. Was just walking past him, told him I enjoyed the G1, he said thanks. We went our separate ways. I assume he is on a different forum telling people he met cian68.

He is pretty down to earth but he has the coolest guy in the room quality to him too.

    Swoon.

NJPW will be broadcasting in English soon enough. Not in the US, but I'm sure it will be easy to find shortly after.

    I'm torn on it really.

On the one hand, it will be great exposure as a surprising amount of people need English commentary in order to be able to enjoy a show. If its a success and they push on into the US, even just for iPPV's, then they could take the number two spot and push TNA down to third. Would be bizarre for the number two company in the US to be based in Japan. Saying that, I don't think they will push into the US, at least not anytime soon. They have quite a few working agreements with American promotions and entering the same market could put an end to them.

On the other hand, I much rather the Japanese commentary. It adds so much to the shows.
