Maybe we could add some Irishness to the title:

Republic of Retro or Retro Republic
    Emerald Era of Gaming
Games as Gaeilge (because using our native tongue would reach a wider audience :pac:)
The IRA Gamer (instead of the Irate gamer :p)

    Thats all I have. :p
Okay, maybe we should go with Retro Doge afer all.

Just had a great idea for a video.

I was talking to a friend about emulation and in typical fashion I was being very pedantic about emulation accuracy and singing the virtues of BSNES.

He looked it up and it turns out that the author of BSNES is Irish and based in Ireland:

    http://www.bannister.org/

Might be a good topic talking to him about emulation and preservation of games.

Do CEX in town buy in XBOX 360 and PS2 games? I have a rake of stuff to bring in tomorrow to offload to them if so. :)

Awesome idea. I'd no idea that author was Irish.

Holy ****, he's also responsible for All-in-1 chiptune player - Audio Overload,
and the Arcade music player - M1!

Not to mention almost 25 emulators listed on his software page.

    Awesome.

So I'd say we are talking Jan, maybe Feb before we actually get anything together for this. Perhaps a meet up in early January is in order to have a chat about what we all want to do?

As most of us are in the Dublin area(not all I know, but most), any ideas for a central location/pub to meet up. Would need to be somewhere we could actually talk, and drink, and waffle :0)

Richard Bannister looks after the Mac port of BSNES and the main BSNES coding is all done by another chap. BSNES is now part of "Higan" by the way http://byuu.org/higan/

I always thought Richard Bannister was the MAME Dev "R Belmont"...

    Coppers.

    Coppers.

Getting Gonorrhoea off a slapper student nurse and drinking jagerbombs is optional I take it

(Note: All offence intended to anyone who drink jagerbombs, If you drink then have a real drink)

But yes I'll try and make it up to a meeting

I probably dont have any input worth mentioning to this, but ill turn up for a few drinks anyways if thats cool..

And on the location, just to get the ball rolling, ill throw out McGrattons just off Baggot street. good place for a chat like this, its usually half empty and not noisy.

Sounds good. Handy enough location to get to as well.

Might tag along for a pint or two also. Not sure what kind of input I could give to the project though.

Yeah, Even just to have some cool retro stuff in the background of shots as well. Although if we are going to have a Vectrex in the background it better be powered off, gods damn buzz buzz buzz :)

    Edit:
Also, I have one collectable that's pretty insanely rare that might create some interest. But it isn't exactly a games machine.

Cool, you got him to sign it? Nicework! Thats definitely something worth including, the vids would get great exposure from that.

All joking aside I've never actually played one. I was mildy interested in the Power Rangers Samurai game for Kinect until I saw videos of people trying to play it on YouTube.

Power Rangers games, just like the series it's based on, tend to be utter ****e.

Yep, got it signed a while back when he was in London doing some presentation thing. We drove over as I just couldn't risk flying with it.

The MMPR fighter on the SNES (??) gets a mention on Racketboy's hidden-gems list, I think. It's supposed to have a surprisingly deep specials system.

    Looks pretty delicious too:

Might give that a bash on the cab later tonight to see what it's like so!

So has any progress been made in the background on this?

If there has not, then I think it is going to need leadership to get the ball rolling.
