Yup, makes the most sense. It doesn't need to be the most informed, just someone who can jump in and stop people, throw out questions and keep things on track. We could probably have someone knowledgeable about each topic put some notes together for the host to use. Then the panel would have all the info.

But as Steve said, it's one for a bit further down the line.

What about for now we all throw out what we'd be up for doing, or interested in talking about on camera? I'm happy to show anyone who wants to learn how to set up the camera/lights, record audio or do a bit of research.

    I'm up for:
    Filming the documentary-style bits
    and the studio bits
    Editing
Recording sound/setting up lights and other general helping out.
    Research/planning for topics

    And can talk about:
    Dreamcast
    Game Boy
    PS1

I'd be interested in helping out with this. Wouldn't know nearly as much as most here but I do have a lot of retro consoles and kids :D

There's probably a good few people on here like myself that would be willing to offer feedback and suggestions, that wouldn't need to go on the list as we wouldn't be a large part of it.

What medium do you plan to use for suggestions,
    would an A&R thread suffice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,912 ✭✭✭Steve X2

I suppose my skills lie in the technical and organisation areas(so research and planning would be my cup of tea along with organising people and funds management should it come to that). I know my retro, but others here put me to shame in that department. But maybe if we should touch on the 3DO or Amiga I might have some views or information.
I've a bit of hardware modding skills and info but Myrddin is the go to guy for that sort of talk. Not sure if we would talk about mods and hacks but it might come up as some of them are pretty cool and not just for pirating.

I'll be off to Japan a couple of times over the next 4-5 months(although I hope we have something before then :)) so maybe I can get some arcade footage and see about talking to people in some of the shops in Akihabara for a segment or something.

Not sure how Pyongtaku is fixed these days, quite a bit of shmuppy info and knowledge in his head :)

I also have a server farm of 15 machines for any video/graphics rendering jobs required (currently setup for After Effects CS6).

I suppose at this early stage(with a realistic chance of it fading away into nothing as can happen with these things) this thread is the main area. PM's as well if you don't want to post in the thread.

I'm a jack of all digital trades and would love to help with this kind of thing.

I can solder but pretty much useless otherwise for this sort of thing.

Well i know nothing about retro games compared to you guys on here, But i can talk about my arcade machines, restoring them etc if needed, I also have a fairly decent NES and snes boxed collection and some rare media kits and crap from when i done the game reviews etc.

    I can do that!
I have a maid cafe outfit too and one for Retro

I'd like to be involved in some shape but I dunno what I could offer, my collection has been ravaged in the last year and will continue to be in the future and I wouldn't be near as knowledgeable as most on here.
If ye need anyone to talk about paganism and Christianity in late antiquity or Ireland in the Atlantic world, I'm your man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Well I'm up for it anyway

Only problem is that I'm down the country so me getting up to Dublin or people coming to me would require me a bit of notice. No problem going on the camera for any reason though, although my bogger accent might put people off. But if "Bits" was ok with people listening to me then I'd say I could be ok

I'm mostly informed about Mega Drive stuff so I guess that's my expertise but I'll talk about anything

Could be interesting if I took someone out around Tramore for a look at the arcades there for a segment

I'll do any kind of graphic design required aswell

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,400 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

I was in Tramore only two weeks ago, not much arcade games left, unless i missed some!

I was in Singapore quite recently and found this place on the last day of the trip (first couple of seconds are bumpy but then it settles down):

I'm happy to host as well (look between the retrounlim.com stuff and 'lets get retro' I've done a lot of hosting/commenting/interviewing/guestwrangling already), would be definitely interested in learning about the backend (lighting cameras sound) stuff too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,912 ✭✭✭Steve X2

Well, lots of options for hosts. Now we just need to get the show together :)

Apart from getting footage of a beers, you could also plug the podcasts & this forum too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,345 ✭✭✭landsleaving

    Shameless plugs all round!

Maybe we could start throwing out a few ideas for topics. We could try doing six episodes on a topic each. That should be fairly achievable I think.

Might also be good to have a couple of topics on some of them. Will see what we all decide works best and what format we want to run with.

    Edit:
I sent an email off to a guy I dealt with a couple of years ago from a production company who work in the UK and Ireland. I worked on one of their projects in relation one of my other interests that some of you may know about. He might be able to help with some of the equipment and perhaps a set/location. He's dead sound and has helped me out by lending me RED cameras a gear in the recent past.
Would be a gift to get him onboard to help.

    RED camera filming...

All I can imagine is Retr0 blowing a dusty NES cart in super slo mo and 1080p!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,912 ✭✭✭Steve X2

All this looking around for contacts that can help, and I forgot about the GF.
She has contacts all over the place with local production companies and all sorts of other things that can help.
She works for a "creative agency", I call it an advertising agency but apparently I'm wrong

So I'm not sure what we need but it's another string in the bow and we need as many freebies as we can get :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,280 ✭✭✭MrVestek

I'd be willing to be a part of this. I could also help out with the production side of things (editing etc).

I also have a 1080p HD Videocamera that we could use if needs be. Tripod too.

If Jack Burton is taking part, then I can only imagine the answer to that will be yes - whether we like it or not!

I dunno, a few(non hairy) nip slips might get us a few extra viewers :)

As for cameras, I'd be sticking with DSLR's or similar quality HD cameras(depends what people have). And we'd hopefully have access to a RED camera at some stage to record something special.

I think my brother has one of those. They have some problems in low light if I remember correctly(he might have an older model though).

We used it in a dimly lit room during a investigation and I had to spend a good bit of time cleaning up the video. But then again, I don't expect us to be recording in the dark on the show :)

Yeah it's not fantastic in low light as you can see in some of my tutorial videos.

It's great during the day though or under the right lighting conditions.
