    Wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

Going to the UK and getting one of a car like that seems a much better option to me. Much easier to find one thats been well maintained and not abused.

That car has probably been trashed every day and no NCT either.

    Cars Ireland says no NCT.

You'd be mad to bother, they're cheaper here, just as well maintained and rust free.

The UK is the last place I'd buy a car, the salt is a killer, especially on Japanese yokes.

There is good rust free cars in the uk too, it's just picking the right example from the right part of the uk is the thing.

Also most of that model type r are European cars made in the uk so rust protection isn't much of an issue.

An excellent low mileage one owner example with a fhsh can be picked up easily enough over there, albeit at an expensive price but I doubt if you'd get as good of an example here tbh.

If it was me though I wouldn't bother with that model civic. Id be going for an ek9. Imo they are much nicer than those EPs.

You'd be mad to think you can't pick up a better car here though, for less money.
Generally we get Jap imports too which are generally made with better parts.

There's a serious myth that people in the UK give more care to tier cars than we do.
On anything worth looking after, I find we're pretty protective and passionate about over here.

Good luck finding something better than this.

You didn't have to go and find it on Piston heads, did you?
NCT, Reg, tax, all taken car of.

Nope I knew straight away from looking at the car that it was a UK import, and the fact that the seller mentions it has all it's "mot" certs from 94-07.

The argument isn't about vrt or nct/tax, it's about condition? Wasn't that your original argument with regards rust etc?

Ive always thought the perception of Uk cars been maintained/cared for a lot better then irish cars - Generally - was do do with all cars generally.

Ie a Uk owner is more likely to mind a Corolla diesel better then a typical Irish owner.

Certainly i would say that an enthusiast owner of a typical enthusiast type car is more likely to maintain their car better then a typical motorist - both here and in the UK.

    Overpriced or not?

    1988 Ford Fiesta
    1.0 Petrol
    70k Miles
    NCT 4/14, tax 3/14
    €1250
An interesting "classic" that could probably be used daily if you could bare the lack of power steering.

    And another banger,

    1994 Toyota Starlet
    1.3 Petrol
    130k Miles
    NCT 9/14, tax 12/13
    €550
If you got €50 knocked off you could drive it 'till the test runs out and get €200 from the banger racers.

I've no doubt you can pick up a car here for less money, but I still think while you will pay more you will still get a better example in the UK.

The jap imports are made with better parts argument isn't exactly true with regards to eg6s because all eg6s were made in Japan so build quality is the same on all of them.

The same goes for the ep type r. The jap models and the UK models were all made in honda's Swindon uk factory so build quality is the same, although performance is slightly better on JDM models as are the seats.

Pity this is so far away, i would probably take a look if it was a bit closer

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2004-saab-93/6148980

    Decent ARC spec & automatic.

Honestly? Vague ad, no mileage specified, dodgy wheels, no service history

I'd run a mile tbh. Plenty of Saabs for sale, very few people buying :)

Could be just a bad ad, if it was a bit closer i would call the seller to get a better idea of the motor.

not many 93 automatics around for bangernomics money.

Terrific little cars I have had 2 mk2's and 1 mk3 in my early years (first ever car was fiesta 957cc in Wedgwood blue 1984 reg)

Tbh the lack of power steering in these cars really doesn't matter, the tyres are so skinny.

That would make a smashing little daily driver if people nowadays understand manual chokes lol!
