Any idea why Coolmore have yet to announce their NH fees for 2014 yet?

Usually wait until after the Goffs NH foal sale in Dec I think

Fees are up across the board. Before you get suckered into using one of these stallions with an inflated price do the maths. How much profit did your selected stallions progeny make at the Sales . Sure the clearance rate is good and someone's making money but it's not the breeders (in general) You need to select your stallion as if it was last year, the recession is not over yet, no matter what way the stallion people manipulate the market.

I see Dandyman is 7.5k for this season, which is still value in my book.

On a another note Society rock is standing at tally ho for 8k, loved that horse when he was in training.

Was looking in to him Frankie some of them sold very very well, any idea why it took so long for him to go to stud was he kept in training and just never reached the track again or what

What's your favourite N.H stallion? The late Kings Theatre is mine. Beautiful looking talented progency. Don't think Oscar cuts it or Milan.

The story is that he broke a bone in training and they spent a while trying to get him back to the track, he'll have his first runners next season so he'll be a hit or miss very quickly, was a v good racehorse in fairness. Any views on Power as a stallion?

Going to be hard to see untill some foals/yearlings go through the ring but most importantly when they hit the track. I'd be happy to sit back and see how they do and go with proven sire in that price range.(All from a comercial pov of course)

Milan probably is the weaker of the two when it comes to producing grade 1 winning chasers. While Oscar has yet to produce a Gold Cup winner. His only Grade 1 chaser is Big Zeb.

Presenting appears to have produced the best chasers.
Looking at the non-French younger horses, Kings Theatre look the most exciting.

Milan and Oscar are good sires. But I just don't think their strong when it comes to winning big championship races at Chelt. I think Kings Theatre will be much more successful at the festival this year.

Oscar had a Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase, Neptune and Albert Bartlett winner in the last few seasons off the top of my head. You are clueless.

    .

    Wrong.

He's still never won a Gold Cup.

He's definitely the most used NH stallion here. That's a poor return in my book.

Which one of his progeny won the champion hurdle? Name his best offspring.

Is it wrong to have an opinion?

Rock On Ruby won a Champion Hurdle.

Oscar Whisky, Big Zeb, Black Jack Ketchum, Oscars Wells, At Fishers Cross, Lord Windermere, Felix Yonger, Peddlers Cross, Refinement etc.

I do like Kings Theatre a lot but to say Oscar and Milan just don't cut it is a load of bollox.

Yes sorry the comment was taken out of context. Oscar has produced some good horses. Just no real superstar.

Do you have a list of Milan's like that?
Would you agree Oscar produces better hurdlers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Darlan and Jezki would be the two best off the top of my head by Milan. I really think Darlan would have won the Champion Hurdle last year but of course we will never know! Big Shu was a Cheltenham winner for Milan, then some good young horses like Apache Stronghold and Beat That.

I do agree Kings Theatre is the best of the three but Milan and Oscar have proven to be two of the best around.

I'm on my iPhone so can't really post but I'd bet the Coolmore website has a list of graded winners.

If not go to the Racingpost and there should be a list of runners by RPR

Just seen in Racing Post that Gold Well died last month due to a bout of colic. Huge loss to Coolmore National Hunt wing.

Why not just say you're on your phone?

    As the old saying goes;
how do you know when someone has an iphone?
    They will tell you.

    Tossers.

    You on the blob Slattsy?

No offence was intended in your general direction, its just one of those things that grinds my gears.

I'm pretty sure Milan's oldest progeny are only 8 so it's very early to be making judgements on a horse who's already sired a horse like Darlan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

    And Jezki!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 196 ✭✭Clonsuttonlad

I'm sure his first championship winning horse is only around the corner. He's fairly good value @ 6000. Think if I had a suitable mare would cough up the extra 500 for Oscar, or maybe go to Presenting, if breathing lines were right.
