    Photos on the facebook page:
    https://www.facebook.com/EdgeofTomorrowMovie

Tom Cruise youtube channel has the comic con 2013 panel:

They had some footage at that comic con panel but it's not included in that youtube video and I can't find it online.

Looks like it's gonna be really action packed. Liked Bill Paxton doing some quotes while on the panel.

There's a trailer out for this, and sure enough involves a lot of Tom Cruise running and using a motorbike. To be fair it has an intriguing premise, looks like it might be interesting and seems vaguely international in scope for a change. Then again, Cruise's last vehicle, Oblivion, looked interesting too & that didn't turn out so hot...

    Irish flag at 1:35 haha.

Looks interesting. I like Cruise in his sci-fi/action roles (Oblivion, Minority Report, War of the Worlds) and this looks like it's got an decent premise.

    looks ok to me.

though cant help thinking it looks like oblivion crossed with saving private ryan. im really starting to wich cruise would do a film without a female lead in it as there all stating to look the fecking same now.

still i can see myself going to this.

Of the three trailers released over the past two days (Edge of Tomorrow, Godzilla & Jupiter Ascending) this is the one that has me most excited. Tom Cruise and sci-fi is always a great combination. I like the premise of this movie and the action looks impressive.

    I'm interested.

Yeah, ticks all my boxes :P

The invasion might have gone better if they kept their helmets on.

Looks like another middle of the road generic advertising laiden forgettable blockbuster.

    I think it looks good.

I generally like Cruises films. Even films like Jack Reacher that wasn't well received I really enjoyed and the the idea looks decent. I'd say at worst it will be watchable

I find Cruise to be one of the most enjoyable earnest actors to watch.

He never gives anything less than his all. I don't think anybody could ever say he's phoned in a performance.

The fact that he gets so much ****/hate for his personal life/struggles and still manages to function like a human being makes him all the more interesting/human. I admire his "let them hate attitude", his beliefs aren't that out there compared to most person's.

"If we had a pulpit and an audience, we'd all look mad men"

He just turns up and does the work, so easy to work, with nothing but enthusiasm for his fellow actors and the material, and it almost appears fake and weird, but he really does seem to be that positive/gregarious 100% kind of a person, the kind of a guy you'd love to have your back.

He's an guy I'd love to talk too.

Loved Oblivion, one of the only sci-fi movies this year that was about the people/atmosphere and not the cgi. It was inspiring to see most of all done for real too.

It did; it's apparently based on a Japanese comic by the name "All You Need is Kill", which I can't decide is brilliant because or despite of the bad grammar :D As you can presume, the characters and setting were westernised in adaptation, though beyond that I know nothing of the comic...

I would give them credit for taking a comic as source material rather than simply remaking a Japanese film.

The reviews are coming in and most agree this is pretty brilliant, which is a surprise apprently. I love this kind of sci fi, do it's good to see something like this review so well, that isn't a obvious blockbuster. Only 1 bad review so far out of 10.

But the movie belongs, wholeheartedly, to Cruise. This is his liveliest, most fully engaged, dimensional performance in years

    Well colour me surprised!
I saw the marketing tagline "A summer blockbuster... with brains" and cringed.
Usually that means it's a bog standard blockbuster with an attempted "intellectual" twist at the end. But from the brief summaries of reviews I've read, it really does seem to be decent. Guess I'll check it out!

Was pleasantly surprised by this. A very solid film with some brilliant CGI effects. Could be trimmed down about 20 minutes but is a very (surprisingly) good film.

    Well worth a watch.

saw the trailer for this last night before Godzilla and it ruined a fairly big plot point, I knew the basic stuff about why Cruise is doing what he's doing but gahhh, didnt know about what was revealed in the trailer I saw. cop on marketing people!

Very impressed with this. It's pretty much the perfect popcorn munching blockbuster. The central plot is pretty silly, but its handled in a smart and creative way. And its visually stunning. Felt like a cross between Starship Troopers, the Matrix and Groundhog Day.

No interest in this film , haven't seen probably his last half dozen films and judging from the supermarkets ive been in they seem to end up in the bargain buckets pretty fast.
I think he needs to change it up.
I'd like to see Cruise in a smal Indy film or as part of a strong ensemble cast or in a Cohen brothers or O'Russel film or just something different than this same old formulating blockbuster where he's the star /come promotion salesman.
I"m not sure if it's the fact that he has no interest in doing this or if it's that certain kinds of directors just don't want him in their films cause he"s kinda one dimensional nowadays and lacks a bit of depth so they go for someone like a Christian Bale instead.
Can't help wondering would alot of these cliche roles not work just as well with Cage or Statham or whoever...Not talking box office , just general effectiveness.

You've interest in this yet you post here. You've not seen his last 6 or so movies but you think he needs to change it up.

This isn't the right thread for this but....
    Last 6 movies...
    Tropic Thunder - a A-list comedy movie
Knight and Day - I've not seen this, looks like a paint by numbers action flick
Mission: Impossible 4 - excellent action thriller, one of the best in the genre
Rock of Ages - a musical FFS!
Jack Reacher - Pretty decent action movie
    Oblivion - Sci-fi thriller

Ok, he's following up Oblivion with another Sci-fi thriller but he has a mix of movies in there (3 action, 1 sci-fi thriller, 1 comedy and 1 musical), not to mention a fairly diverse selection of movie going further back.

Yes, Cruise has tended towards action flicks and has a taste for sci-fi (WotW, Minority Report, Oblivion, EoT) but by in large they are good movies. If he was making sh*t action/sci-fi movies I'd agree with you that he should go back to his Vanilla Sky, Few Good Men, Rain Man etc. days but he's not. Maybe you should try watching some of his movies instead of criticising him for making the kind of movies you're not interested in.

    My take -

You have to hand it to Tom Cruise. He has had his fair share of bad PR and has endured a great deal of ridicule and criticism over the past few years but he still manages to come up with the goods when it matters. He’s one of the most successful movie stars on the planet with a very impressive body of work. It would be very easy for him to rest on his laurels and just cruise (sorry) from one formulaic film to the next, collecting monster paycheques along the way. Instead, he seems to revel in making bold choices – working with different directors, finding and developing exciting scripts, pushing the envelope in terms of storytelling and effects and, most important of all, taking risks.

Edge of Tomorrow is no exception. It’s a cracking, intelligent, engaging and darkly comic action thriller.

It’s also one of the best sci-fi films of the last few years.

The set-up is straightforward enough – in the near future, an alien race (called Mimics) has invaded Earth and all-but defeated the world’s military units. Cruise plays Major William Cage, a military officer who specialises in media relations but has virtually no trigger time, who is unwittingly deployed into a massive combat mission against the aliens on the coast of France. Cage is killed within minutes, but finds himself caught in a time loop, living the same day from the same point over and over again. The catch is – Cage must die to restart each loop. And with each loop, he begins to train relentlessly to prepare himself to outwit the aliens, teaming up with Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (played by Emily Blunt) to try and defeat them once and for all.

The refreshing thing about Cruise’s character is that he’s not your stereotypical, gung-ho, fearless, indestructible hero. He’s a military officer with a very cushy number who is literally thrown in at the deep end and he must dig deep and use the abundance of extra time he has been given to try and save mankind.

Director Doug Liman (Swingers, The Bourne Identity) wastes very little time with exposition and rapidly plunges us right into the heart of a beach landing sequence to rival Saving Private Ryan. Thousands of troops land on the coast wearing impressive futuristic exoskeletons to help them fight the terrifying mimics. And we get to revisit this battlefield many times over, with Cruise and Blunt learning from their fatal mistakes and rectifying them in the next loop.

Liman does a great job of managing the many, many time loops, showing us just what we need to see with each reset, advancing the story and the mission a little bit further each time.

The design of the alien Mimics is very original and they are genuinely terrifying whenever they are on screen. The film, although never particularly gory, definitely pushes the boundaries for a 12A rating.

One of the most surprising things about the film is the liberal use of humour. It has several genuine laugh-out-loud moments, most of which revolve around Cruise meeting his end in a series of darkly comic ways. He seems to be having a lot of fun here and, despite being 52, is showing no signs of letting up in the physical action stakes.

The film boasts a strong supporting cast too. Brendan Gleeson is reliable as always as Cage’s commander. Emily Blunt does a terrific job as the battle-hardened, no-nonsense Angel of Verdun, nicknamed the “Full Metal Bitch.” And it’s great to see Bill Paxton (Aliens, The Terminator) on the big screen again, being utilised to his full potential. Between this and his recent stint on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I hope this is the start of a career resurgence for Paxton.

Sure, there are shades of Groundhog Day, Elysium, Source Code, Saving Private Ryan and a host of many other time travel, science fiction and war films, but Edge of Tomorrow somehow still manages to come out the other end feeling wholly original. Doug Liman has already shown that he is very adept when it comes to action (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity) but with Edge of Tomorrow he has established himself as a very credible sci-fi director too. Based on this I wouldn’t mind seeing him take on one of the Star Wars spin-off films in the next couple of years.

There are a couple of minor plot holes here and there. The grand finale doesn’t QUITE reach the dizzying heights of the incredible beach sequences that make up much of the film’s first half. And the ending will no doubt generate much discussion and light up internet message boards with theories and opinions. But isn’t that what great movies do?

Edge of Tomorrow is a whole lot of FUN, unlike a few recent po-faced blockbusters (I’m looking at YOU, Godzilla). See it with a large audience and enjoy.

    Highly recommended.

Sure why bother watching any film when you can get a 30 sec sum up on youtube, that's some pretty silly reasoning right there.

That's the biggest surprise in years. I'm rarely impressed by big budget science fiction but I honestly feel this is a triumph. Only watched the early trailer months ago and it might as well have beeen for a different movie. I'm trying to think of any part of it I didn't like and after mulling it over for a few hours there just isn't one. Story - great, acting - great, cast - superb (loved Bill Paxton!), action - oh ya! frantic, direction - very strong, careful thought and planning is always crucial in a looping narrative to keep things interesting and the result proves the hard work and effort was worth it, vfx - flawless, aliens - original, pacing - perfect, even the humour works. I was too busy enjoying the ride to pay much attention but I have a feeling the editing must have been superb to make this work as well as it does. Just like TNG: Cause & Effect and SG1: Window of Opportunity they follow through on the fun premise, keep advancing the story in creative ways and execute it perfectly). I think this is the best film Cruise has been in in over a decade. Oblivion was ok for what it was but this is on another level entirely, an instant classic of the genre.

Emily Blunt is a perfect match for Cruise, they work really well together on screen, she has the presense to match his and for once she's not just a love interest defined by the male lead but owns her action hero role. The best strong sci-fi female lead since Kara Thrace.

I watched it in 3D purely because it was showing on a much bigger screen than the 2D version but I'll go again tomorrow in 2D and could easily see myself going a third time. No issues with brightness in the 3D version but a few of the fast paced multi-layered action scenes get a little blurry / jittery so I'd go with 2D if you can get it on a big screen.

What's Jason Statham got to do with this? Cruise is a good actor, he just needs to take more chances or do smaller movies, his comedic stuff in Tropic Thunder was hilarious. He is the most famous movie star in the world and he's what 53 now almost? he's probably just getting the action stuff in while he can and do less physical stuff later on his career. I would like to see him reteam with someone like Michael Mann

Tom cruise is decent actor. There are hundreds of great actors and alot of better actors. He probably is the most famous actor on the planet cause he literally tirelessly travels the entire planet to promote his latest summer action 'blockbuster' , he's an old fashioned movie star who now plays old fashioned roles.
The formula now is tiresome , I can't even remember when the last time he was even nominated for anything , yet in mind actually win anything and Its not as if he 's ever actually made an Oscar winning performance compared to actors who have won an actual Oscar. You don't get Oscars for making money .
I"m glad you like his films cause I have to say I think i alot of his recent roles don't require much acting as dar as i can make out.

I think Its a safe bet bis next role will be simiar to this one.

Visually impressive, yet overall quite a reserved film, in how it rolled itself out, to the viewer. Didn't presume you were a feckin' eejit.

Krudler is right though, some of the speech between characters is far too revealing in one of the trailers. A pity. I knew I had spoiled things for myself when I watched it.

Very enjoyable. City centre cinema wanted €14 a ticket, I made my way out to the suburbs (IMC) and watched the last Friday show in a loosely packed cinema.
