Why is Eddie Rockets always seen as so expensive?

This is something I personally don't understand, nearly every person I know always refuses to go to Eddie Rockets because it's "too expensive", though have no objection to going to other restaurants which would offer similar value.
You'd be talking about 12 euro maximum for a burger combo meal with a drink and fries. You'd probably spend about 8.50-9.00 maximum in McDonald's. So, it works out 3 euro more than McDonald's, with waiters, a nicer atmosphere and better quality food. They also have quite a few menu options which are difficult to find anywhere else.
So, why do people view Eddie Rockets as so expensive?

McDonalds is 7e-7.50 for a large. So it's still a good bit cheaper. I think the quality is better in Eddie Rockets, but why pay for frills when you're ordering a fast food burger. That and I had a terrible experience in Eddie Rockets so I don't see me going back there.

It's expensive for the ****e you get.

McDonalds might have thinner burgers but it's at least a fiver cheaper than Eddies to get the same thing.
Atmosphere in Eddies is cheap, same as McDonalds.

You're paying for the service really, you're paying for waiters to hand you fast food.

I'd rather go to somewhere decent and get an early bird meal for €16 than spend €12 in Eddie Rockets.

EDIT: Or I'd rather go to McDonalds to get the same thing for less, and serve myself (much faster!) instead of being waited on. Is that really worth an extra fiver + tip? :P

What I have against them is that you order a burger and fries separately.

If I order a burger in a restaurant like that, I expect to get fries on my plate too. It just looks like an incomplete meal.

Rather go to Counter Burger myself and built a tasty monstrosity

It doesnt cost 8-9 euro for a burger combo meal in McDonalds. Although you get better food and service etc in Eddie Rockets its gonna cost twice as much as regular fast food places. Which is why its seen as expensive by people who just want a burger and chips.

Eddie rockets is grand for what it is. I eat there once a month or so. Two of us eat for about 25 euro, that's grand. They also do vanilla malts which are amazing

It doesn't have to cost that much for a combo meal in McDonalds, but it can depending on what you order.

I'm coeliac and always get their burger in a bowl (actually get two, an extra one is only €2) with heaps of guacamole and a side order of sweet potatoe fries (you have to get these if you haven't before, beautiful).

GBK do burger salads also which I like and The Counter do some which I love but takes ages for them to bring your order.

Sure McDonalads is crazy expensive for the junk they give you.

Was told that the new McD's in Temple Bar are charger €6 for a 1/4, is that true?

You only mention maximums, what can you get for a few euro?

McDonalds have the eurosaver menu. BK had/have a similar cheap menu.

At one stage you could get a burger, apple pie & a sundae for €3 in mcdonalds. Think its €3.50 now, same price as the standard cheapest chips in eddie rockets, looking at their online delivery menu, after hours in eddies it might be more than 3.50.

Many are going in drunk so any preference in taste might not be important -and of course many could prefer BK or mcdonalds.

burger + garlic cheese chips + drink in ER is about 16-17e.

tastes meh, chips are tiny portion served in a poxy bowl, drinks are flat half the time.

burgers arnt too bad. foot longs are alright too, but its **** for the price.

and to the 'empty pockets' comment, everyone calls it that, even on their old menu, amongst the american type advertisements it actually used to refer to their own restaurant as empty pockets.

much nicer american style burger places, tgi's, gourmet burger etc.

Eddie Rockets didn't used to do meals, so you used to have to order fries and a drink on top. This would cost well over e10 for one person. Their prices are much more affordable now that they do offer meals. Most meals won't cost you more than a tenner unless you want something like dressed fries or a milkshake.

It picked up the reputation of being expensive when it really was very expensive and that kind of reputation is hard to lose no matter what you change.

For example M&S could drop all their prices tomorrow to match that of Aldi or Lidl, but it would take a long long time for them to lose the overly expensive reputation they have.

Eddie Rockets have a menu that's specifically designed to rob drunk people.
If you go in there and order exactly what you want, then it costs a fortune.

If you take some time to look at their menu, you can eat a lot of reasonably high quality fast food, pretty cheaply.
You just have to restrict yourself to their set meals, which are kind of hidden around the menu.

I like to think the price difference can be best explained by not having to make my self a sandwich two hours after having an Eddie Rockets.

Don't believe so, though, the chicken selects and double 1/4 are grossly overpriced compared to other locations for some reason, everything else is fine though.

I agree with you. But at the counter don't they also sell fries seperately?

In dublin i love the counter but Bunsen and aussie BBQ are also great

I do like me some Eddie Rockets. I once ate two double take burgers (that's two patties each), a bacon & cheese fries and a large chocolate malt in one go (for a bet)
