Actually the only bad Eddie Rockets I had was in Limerick and the staff were a bit weird.

Why are people comparing this to McDonald's?
    Because the OP did

Burgers are smaller and served in a bag and cardboard. So no dishing up or washing up.
ER's are bigger and get served to you on a plate with cutlery.

Of course it's going to be more expensive
the OP was making out that its only slightly more expensive.

But they and several others are comparing special offers in ER to full price in McDs. I was the only one to mention the eurosaver as being a reason people might think it more expensive, the ability to spend just a few euro for a quick bite. Only 1 other poster I saw mentioned a McD meal. You get them on receipts, or even just ask at the counter before ordering and some give you a book.

I'd rather pay a bit extra for a real home-made style mince burger with tomatoes, lettuce and gherkin, with some delicious chips.
I know a few people who would prefer a big mac, if both were free. I know guys who prefer burgers over steak, and easi singles over decent cheddar, and budweiser over budvar. Each to their own.

I find the food in Eddie Rockets fills me up for much longer than McDonald's.
whenever mcd's is mentioned the old "doesn't fill you" comment comes up. McDs simply have small portions, its no secret, weigh the stuff, look up the nutritional info online. A big mac is only 490kcal. The smokestack mentioned earlier is 1320kcal, a "classic burger" is 765kcal.
As mentioned earlier in comparison mc Donalds is a false economy, because no one can deny you're hungry again a lot sooner after a maccers than an Eddies, so it balances out
if they were the exact same price gram per gram, people would still go to mcds to avail of the smaller portions allowing more variation.

Its certainly better value than Nando's which is just terrible with a terrible menu and mad prices.

The point is, most people find that E.R. is more filling than McD's

Their Milkshakes are also far far nicer than most other places. Proper good ice cream is expensive.

The only thing that this thread has done is make me want to go to Eddie Rockets at the weekend. I'd have no desire to go to McDonald's ever really. It's not filling and really bland. In fairness BK is tasty but McDonald's is nothing special. Eddie Rockets M50 burger is deelish.

    Mmmmm strawberry malt...

Buffalo 19 in Rathmines is a decent alternative to Eddie's, practically the same menu but works out cheaper maybe €1.50 per meal i'd guess and just as good if not better. Huge slection of milkshakes and malts too.

Oh and the wings are actually great (think same as Tribeca, or very similar) unlike the abominations that pass for wings in ER

You'd be talking about 12 euro maximum for a burger combo meal with a drink and fries. You'd probably spend about 8.50-9.00 maximum in McDonald's.

For less those prices I can get a two course meal at a very fancy Chinese restaurant here in Galway. The lunch special in Ming Garden cost 9.00/9.50 and you get a starter, plus main meal plus tea or coffee.

Skip the starter and get a nice lunch for 7.00/7.50.

I prefer to cook at home which is often cheaper (plus I get exactly what I want) so I don't eat out that much. If I did, it's unlikely it would be Eddie Rockets.

Those massive hotdogs are nice, but fairly over-priced. TGI Fridays is another over-priced restaurant. With so many pubs and better restaurants nearby, I wouldn't be too bothered.

If I want cheap takeaway food, I go for Charcoal Grill. Divine food when locked. It's so good, I would actually pay more!!:P

I sometimes bring the oh and kiddies there. Family meal deal is two burger meals and two kids meals for €25. To me that is good value. Yes if you order off the main menu it can be expensive but the deals are not bad. If I go there after lunch I generally won't need to eat again that day, maybe a snack at 9.00 that night.

Four of us wouldn't get out of mcdonalds for 25 euro and I'd be ravenous an hour after. I don't think Eddie rockets is as bad as people are making out food wise either. I quite like the burgers and the sweet potato fries are yummy

I wouldn't be hungry after spending a comparable amount in a comparable way, i.e. you are strictly buying off the deals menu, so should be only looking at the eurosaver in McD's.

In eddies the kids meals are 5.25 each http://www.just-eat.ie/restaurants-eddierocketsd12/menu

So your €25 deal without those it is €14.50, so €7.25 for the adults. To be fairer it is more like €8, €8, €4.50, €4.50 to make up €25 as the kids meals are discounted in the deal.

€8 could get you 2 double cheesebugers, 6 nuggets & dip, 2 apple pies. If you are ravenous an hour after that then go see a doctor!

The €25 deal is decent, don't get me wrong, but do compare like with like. it would be interesting to see the calorie count on both.

The OP was at it to.
You'd be talking about 12 euro maximum for a burger combo meal with a drink and fries. You'd probably spend about 8.50-9.00 maximum in McDonald's. So, it works out 3 euro more than McDonald's
It really should read the MINIMUM you could get a burger meal in ER is 12, and the maximum you could spend in mcds is 9, buying them all separately, like few people would.

Has anybody any theory or read any reason about this alleged "mcdonalds hunger effect", -besides the one I already gave, i.e. they just give smaller portions than other takeaways.

At the end of the day, you're going to be eating McDonald's instead of Eddie Rocket's, though.

I would wager that it's because there is a lot more refined sugar in a McD's meal. Sugar especially when refined won't keep you full for very long.

When Eddie's opened first it wasn't cheap, but the food was of a far higher quality & the portions were more generous.

As such, it represented pretty decent value for money.

I don't think you could say that about the place now.

What on earth are you talking about? Refined sugar is in the soft drink and the ketchup - nothing else. So the coke in ER is different to the coke in McDs now?
The ketchup is completely different too???

I'm surprised so many people like Eddies. I don't mind most fast food places, but Eddie Rockets food is absolute mank.

You forgot the amount of sugar in the bun.

Oh, and the guy in the video above is an utter douche.

Just back from my Local One. I has changed to Rockin' Joe's Diner now but its very cheap.

Me and my Friend got the €15 meal deal. 2 Burgers, 2 Chips and 2 drinks.

Mcdon would be dearer then that and you wont get the same kind of burgers you get in Rockin' Joe's Diner.

Its the same Menu as Eddies, same everything only thing new in the name and its blue not red now LoL

Everything but the patty on the burger is carbs and mostly refined ones.

The likes of ER meals also have lots of sugar but they have fairly large patties on their burgers and protein is pretty good a keeping you feeling full, so more meat = fuller longer.

I could be way off the mark and the whole hungry an hour later thing could be all in peoples heads, I was just throwing out a possible why.

An hour later may have been an exaggeration, maybe it's in my head but I would certainly need to eat again sooner after a mcdonalds. ER's may be a little dearer but I consider it nicer food.

That said I'd have a TGIF over either any day.
