Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi All
I finally got around to tasting this bad boy last night and I really think what happened at the first sip could be described as a religious experience.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried it because it deserves a thread of its own....easy.
This is the best example of a Double IPA I've ever tried.... and I've tried more than a few.
But don't just take my word for it

Sold out in ATG last night, pity.

I really liked it, will definitely be drinking it again.

Really felt the alcohol afterwards though, don't think I'd drink more than one on a night out.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Indeed
Had 2 last night along with 2 Full Sails
    Feeling it today.
    Fantastic beer though

Agree with u. Its a great beer!!, the brewer that made it is only in his early 20's i believe. Imagine with a few more years experience what he will be churning out.
    Excellent beer!!

Had it a week ago or so in ATG, very nice, reminded me of Widmer Bros. Nelson Imperial Ale, will defo be getting it again.

Yep, lovely beer. Taste-wise, it's a wrestling match between the malts and the hops, with each seeming to get on top at various stages during the course of a glass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭ciaran76

The tropical fruit taste also is not overpowering and leads lovely into the hops.

Winter is generally porter and wheat beer drinking time for me, but not this year.
Sweet lord this stuff is amazing.
Hopefully they can keep it up

Anyone know when bottles of this are likely to hit the Off Licences?
    Thanks in advance.

    Well in that case.......
Fcuk Christmas.... January is going to be awesome
Normally I dislike 330ml bottles but had vowed to buy if this beer was inside
    500ml though....... Unreal.
    Price is irrelevant

    500ml, I'm guessing a price of 4.39 at least?

I've been told that the Foam and Fury tastes a lot like Flying Dog's "Raging bitch Belgian style Ipa".
    Is this an accurate Likeness?

I don't know what it tastes like, except that it's one of the best beers I have had.
Full of flavour and excellently balanced.
    Its perfect.
I can't think if many beers that I'd drink ahead of it. I liked it more than hoptimum and that's saying something.

Wow high praise indeed. Went to ATG last Sunday but they were sold out.
I'm chomping at the bit for this stuff!

I wouldn't be the best qualified to give my opinion on it. Someone like Saruman or the beer nut would be but I know that if I've a choice between foam and fury or hoptimum it'll be foam and fury that I'll be going for.

I wouldn't agree with that assessment at all to be honest...

I *think* Al in brewdock told me it would be back in either tomorrow or friday.

Chris posted something on twitter about kegging F&F to send to Dublin the other day too so pop back in friday and you should be good.

Here's what I thought of it.
It's an awesome beer and I can't wait for it to be available in bottle.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,300 ✭✭✭✭Seaneh

Back on draught in Salt House in Galway today so should arrive in Dublin with the weekly delivery tomorrow afternoon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭sofireland

The draught drought should end soon. Tomorrow hopefully.
Personally like Beermack I think they take some cues from Brewdog Hardcore IPA.
This make no mistake however is an amazing beer.

Back on tap in Against the Grain now.

When I was there last night the barman thought it wouldn't be back in for a while, so that's good news.

Just had some of the second batch. I have no idea how he did it, but it's even better than the first. The nose in un-fecking-real. It's the same beer, just more so...

Had a glass last night, didnt notice any difference in taste. Which is good, I cant stand Irish micros tendency to change recipes from batch to batch

I don't think they change recipes, it's just hard to always replicate them when you have different qualities of malt and hops being delivered and they don't have the most sophisticated brewing equipment.

    This.
One batch of hops will be slightly different to the next in acid content. Malt, even two batches from the same supplier, can vary between batches.
Even things like temperature changes can be an issue. They (most Irish brewers) are working in such small batches that a change in climatic temperature can effect their brews in various ways, if it takes longer to ferment the beer because of it being colder than you'd like and you are dry hopping, then the hops are in for longer, there's really not much you can do about it either. When I was down in the metalman brewery last spring Grá was trying to heat fermentation tanks with a small space heater to keep things going!

It's easier to keep things consistent in bigger batches, that why O'Hara's never have consistency issues, their scale is so much bigger than everyone else. Small batch breweries always have and always will, at times, have differences between certain batches of beer, it's just the nature of the beast.

Many micro breweries do actually alter their recipe from time to time. They tweak it and I know Chris does it. The current batch of Of foam and fury is slightly different to the first batch as he tries to perfect it.

Yeah, Howling Gale is now a far superior beer to what it was when it first came out.
I was surprised to find serious inconsistency in O' Hara's beer the other day, though.

Troubles Sabotage is a different beer than at launch, I suspect Kinnegar and Bo Bristle beers are the same. All of these have changed for the better mind, so Im not sure its a complaint as such.

I know Galway Bay do an actual pilot series, so you know in advance you are buying a 5 euro + experiment.

Do these lads have small pilot kit to experiment on before scaling up to commercial production levels?

Well until very recently, Kinnegar's entire operation was on a tiny kit so they would have had to change recipes when scaling up to full production launch a few months ago.

Anyone know what availability of Foam and Fury is these days?

Hoping to swing by Against the Grain this week to finally try it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

It was in Brewdock last weekend. Shouldn't be any issue finding it in ATG. It's also just been bottled so keep an eye out.

Thanks, I'm keen to try on tap before bottle and I know once I see it in bottle I won't have the willpower to wait.

Galway Bay have posted on Facebox that they will be bottling this week and we can expect it in shops nationwide 'very soon'.

    :)

Got to try a couple on Saturday.

Very nice, I think I had built it up a bit too much, but certainly will pick up a few bottles.
