I dont mind that TLoU didnt get GoTY. I'm annoyed GTA did. Overrated and overhyped game. Story as with most GTA's since Vice City, is disjointed and awkward, fairly underwhelming. The open world is good, granted but little replayability. Online was a monumentous cock up.

I've only played three 2013 games

    Bioshock Infinite

    Ni No Kuni

    The Last of Us

I'd probably go for Bioshock Infinite.

I haven't played a huge amount of 2013 releases but two stand out (Terraria on console as well but I'm not going to count that as a 2013).

The Last of Us and Puppeteer

I would be inclined to give my preference to Puppeteer. It looked beautiful, had real charm and a relatively simple and enjoyable experience. Not the best game I've ever played by any stretch of the imagination but definitely the game I enjoyed the most out of this year's crop.

While I loved the story and visuals in TLOU and found I got more emotionally invested in the characters than I have in any game I found the gameplay itself to be a little dull. Definitely a must play but I'm not sure I can see myself returning to it.

My main complaint with the Machima list is having GTA as the most immersive.

Certainly created a great living world.. but immersive.. I don't think so.

Are the annual Boards Games awards taking place this year?

Ok, maybe calling TLoU a movie was a bit much, but I'm remembering it as a movie. Yes, it had a bit more to it than Uncharted or Heavy Rain, but i don't remember the gameplay as much as the story. I'm also slightly biased against it for losing a fair few hours of gameplay thanks to that bug.

    I'm sticking with ACIV.

I'm a bit out of sync with current games so my game of the year is Far Cry 3. Just got it last week.

I found V to be a major improvement over the usual GTA offerings of bland characters, repetitive missions and a dull, predictable plot. I wouldn't have it as my GOTY but its the first GTA since Vice City that I wouldn't feel aggrieved about it picking up awards.
If I had to pick one I'd choose Bioshock Infinite as the stand out game for being overhyped and overrated this year.

Definitely the new Tomb Raider. Was never a real fan of the series in the past but I couldn't put down this game until I had it finished. Great stuff.

Good choice. If TLOU didn't exist, Tomb Raider would probably have been my pick too.

I just felt, especially with the three character situation, that it suffered from the same ridiculous disjointedness that it has in recent years. You do a heist, the gang is back together (Cool) then you anger madrazo, then you pay him off and dont hear about him for ages, then you jack cars for this billionaire guy, then madrazo for two missions (never hear from him again) then michael wants to be a film producer, then no, more car jacking ?? Trevor steals something then gives it back. Franklin hoodrat no more, Save lamarr, back to movie producer? Jack this car. random heist. Michael cant escape his past. wait he can, Merryweather? Another random heist. Then the potential to kill off two characters in the most underwhelming fashion :pac:

(Obviously this is all hyperbole for the sake of hyperbole but still. It annoyed me :pac: Coherency is a must. BOII and BF3 im looking at you guys too)
