I can't stand the name Beyoncé

Martin. I absolutely hate the name, its so dull and I always feel that people christen their sons it because they couldn't be bothered to pick a better name.

Another tree truest awful names are

    Aubrey (male)
    Gertrude
    Assumpta

And any males name that has had 'ine' or 'ette' or any other letters added to the end of it to make it feminine with the absolute worst being Pascaline!

The only name that should be outlawed is Derval - it's a horror

My name has propped up a few times on this thread :( Though in fairness I wouldn't call a child that name now.

Deacon , I swear to the great spaghetti monster this name exists.

Little Deacon was running round a waiting room in the Children's Hospital today.

With a mother calling after him in a Cavan/Longford accent.

Saw someone I'm acquainted with had a baby and called him Odin. I can't decide if that's ridiculous or awesome!
    MurdyWurdy wrote: »
Oh, do you have a little Odin?

The one I know is not in Ireland. I'm still not sure about it but I'm guessing if I actually personally knew a baby with the name I'd def like it!

My Nephew is an Odin (Norse mythologial god of war)..... though he's always called Odie.......just like Garfields dog.

    Where I live, Nathan is pronounced - NAY-HAN, Matthew - MA-CHEW, Róisín - Ro-SHEEN

Probably guess where I'm living.......great spot, but seriously screw up the above 3 names!!!

Stanley. One of the ugliest men's names ever.

I quite like traditional names generally, it's the D'shawns of the world that I feel sorry for, not the Williams.

My neighbour is called Stanley, his brother is Alfred and and their sister is Veronica, all in their late 20s.

Rosh -een. My daughters has the same name and we pronounce it Rosh-een. It bugs me when people call her Roe-sheen and I correct them on it.

Stupid Irish names like Aifric, Beibhinn, Iseult, and some others already mentioned like Turlough

Roe-sheen would be the correct Irish pronunciation. But you're free to pronounce it anyway you want. Just be aware that most people would naturally say roe-sheen.

My personal bugbears are the names that we import from celebrity or American culture It just seems somewhat vacuous.

I never have heard the emphasis on the latter part of the name....it's the same with Ei-LEEN.

Just from different parts of the auld sod....the Matthew and Nathan pronounciations are brutal though!!

In Munster Irish, the stress is on the end syllable, so EYE-leen still sounds a bit off to us down here.
