They are still getting rid of people. Jobs going over to the uk and India. The work force in Ireland has been slashed since 2008. Joke of a company.

Was about to post the same. They are shedding people like mad. Pretty much all claims handling is now dealt with in India.

    Terrible company in my opinion.

    I have to laugh.

I've been unemployed for just over two years now. I can't even get a Slave Jobbridge role as 'I am too experienced, and I'll soon be bored' (amongst other excuses). I'm sick of scanning every single job site, company careers board, tailoring CV's for every single application; dealing with employment agencies where the people don't know their arse from a hole in the ground, and know even less; applying for jobs that disappear into the ether never to be seen again, doing online courses that aren't fit for purpose, being talked down to by Welfare.

And they say unemployment is falling? What a joke!

Your poll may not be reliable.

Due to social stigma some will not put themselves forward as being unemployed.

    The overall economy.

Which part of it were you speaking about?

    Last year GDP grew slightly

However, last year the domestic economy, the part of the economy that pays taxes, GNP shrank by 1%.

There is a massive disparity between GDP & GNP, due to the multi-nationals booking revenues made elsewhere through Ireland to avoid tax.
Yet another smoke & mirrors job making the false impression of growth.

You are correct to distinguish between GDP & GNP. However, GDP is based more on production and GNP on revenues, so if the MNCs were 'booking revenues made elsewhere through Ireland to avoid tax' we should see that GNP is higher than GDP. What actually happens is many MNCs produce in Ireland which leads to higher GDP but repatriate the profits back home leading to a lower GNP.

Any idea what the numbers on Jobbridge/CE schemes are?

That would be a secret they guard very well or these figures they keep tossing out would be shown for what they are. And thats lies ....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,822 ✭✭✭sunflower27

    According to jobbridge site:

    6521 currently on an Internship

The number on CE schemes has remained fairly stable at around 23,000 over the course of the recession.*

    Not sure about other schemes....

    The figures are not lies.

You just choose to interpret them in your own way to suit your negative anti-government agenda.

Or you could choose to believe them without taking into account the numerous ways our overlords swindle the unemployment figures, to suit your own pro-government agenda

and if there is anyone around these parts with a pro-government agenda tis yourself!

I have a job but I'm receiving social welfare. I'm not part of the 12.8% unemployed figure but I'm still on the dole.

Am studying at the moment but we had a Jobs Expo in our college last week and I got offered a few jobs but as I am going to continue in education until next September I had to turn them down at the moment. I pointed them in the direction of some of my classmates who are looking for work so who knows.

I defo think there are more opportunities about since I lost my job 4 years ago.

Out of curiosity are most unemployed living outside dublin, I know almost no one out of work in dublin, maybe not in jobs they love but all certainly making enough to live, saying that, none have mortgages or silly debts over them

Most new jobs are being created in Dublin, I think 8 out of every 10 jobs created in Ireland at the moment are based in Dublin.

That is also why we have a rental accommodation shortage in Dublin as people flock to the city to take up new jobs / look for employment, and that is resulting in property prices and rents sky rocketing.

emigration is playing a big role in keeping the jobless numbers down

to an extent yes, but for every 10 people i know that have left the country, 9 of them had jobs when they left.

the majority left for the many reasons such as being sick of listening to people talking about having a s*it life, the overall sense of doom and gloom that is here, the s*ite political set up that is enforced on us, the complete lack of value in every day life, even the weather is enough to depress people even further.

add in the fact that its always been "traditional" for 18-25 year old to emigrate for a year or two (but obviously not on the same scale) its not the big disaster that people are talking about. i left this country during the boom for 10 months as did many people my age.

23,000 net jobs in Dublin this year so about 40% of the total.
Employment increased in eight of the fourteen economic sectors over the year (excluding
    Not stated
    ) and fell in six.
The largest rates of increase were recorded in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing
    (+29.3% or 25,100),
the Accommodation and food service activities
    (+11.9% or 14,700)
and the Professional, scientific and technicalactivities
    (+10.8% or 10,900) sectors.

    Something fishy is going on.:P

Any idea of the figure for the Greater Dublin Area?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,203 ✭✭✭moxin

Any idea of the figure for the Greater Dublin Area?

Stats here, it doesn't really say the composition of jobs in the Dublin area. http://www.cso.ie/en/media/csoie/releasespublications/documents/labourmarket/2013/qnhs_q32013.pdf

Unless there was massive recruitment on fishing boats at Howth or for picking spuds in the fields at Lusk, I doubt agriculture\fisheries created much employment in Dublin :)

No "anti-government agenda" here - I just have something between my ears :) Clap for more fish from the government, why dont you :pac:

so , lets dish up the cold hard facts you have that contradict the INDEPENDENT figures that the CSO have published ???

or are you just bull****ting slightly ?

the figure to be looked at is the amount of jobs created in the last year , in comparison to the previous year(s)
according to the CSO the largest amount of jobs since the tail end of 2007 , can someone tell me how migration has ANYTHING to do with the amount of jobs created ?

not to be confused with the jobless figures VS emigration

this is all about job CREATION - and the figures dont lie - more jobs are being created in the open job market

this has nothing to do with government "manipulation" of the unemployed rate ,
did the dept of SW have a lot less to cut from the budget , due to the fact they were surprised with the amount of people leaving the live registrar , taking out the figures for emigration they roughly match the amount of new jobs made
( source : some dude on newstalk this morning , who had no affiliation to either the CSO or the dirty spoofing gov - pod cast it )
