    Disappointing lineup for the PS4..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,680 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

I canceled my ps4 preorder. I couldnt justify spending that much on an awful launch lineup of games.

Lads, I'm looking at moving my media server from it's current case and position into an Expedit bookshelf from IKEA, I was thinking of getting the glass window/shelf slide in piece and mounting the motherboard itself on acrylic, how safe is this on terms of grounding? Should I get a metal mATX tray instead?

I gave mine to one of my mates. Son of Rome multiplayer for the xbox one looks like pretty good fun though. Looking at picking one up if I get this job over in Sheffield. Just easier to pack and move than my rig.

PSU casing also can be used as a common ground as long as it's 3 prong connector (UK plugs). Anti-static wrist wraps are sometimes connected to PSU to ground yourself while working on a PC. Don't do this on EU type plugs.
Not sure if this will actually help you, but oh well...

The primary grounding for the motherboards is the PSU, and purely from an electrical safety perspective is probably all you really need. I think the existence of painted and plastic standoffs is evidence enough of this.

The main function of standoffs are of course to isolate the main board circuits from what are usually metallic cases, however I believe (and am open to correction here) that as a secondary function the metallic rings on a motherboard mounting hole are connected to a layer of the motherboard called the ground plane which is supposed to reduce RFI/crosstalk etc.

Even with a metal try you would still need to do something like run a ground wire back to the PSU, as otherwise the metal tray is not grounded either.

Ah, I'll get to measuring and finding something to mount HDDs in then!

Turtle beach x12 a good buy? They're only ~30 euro delivered and I need a nice basic pair of headphones. (~13 euro off)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 465 ✭✭raymix

Has anyone here bought one of those cheap ESR meters on ebay for EUR 15-30? Are they reliable enough? Not very eager to spend 100 euros while on tight budget.
    Thanks

Ive had the x11's (pretty much the same as x12's just an older version) for about 3 years now and there fine, they do the job and are comfortable. If your on a small budget ide say go for them.

    Question for you lads...
Playing Battlefield 4, Game runs smoothly with mostly everything on ultra...but my CPU is pushing to nearly 100%during the game.
I've unparked all my cores to no avail can't seem to find anything on the Google
I'm running an i5 3750 oc'd to 4.2 which never gives any bother. Getting good fps in game.
    8gb of ram, 2x 7950's
Anyone I've spoken to seem's to be getting 40% to 60% from their cpu's
    Any idea's?

Sharkoon skiller keyboard is pretty decent. Replaced a lycosa with one a few weeks ago and it's surprisingly good for the price. The backspace key is the only annoying bit about it. It's tiny.

Sharkoon skiller + perixx mx-2000 or sharkoon drakonia mouse is a good combo for around €45.

    Steam introducing a review system.

    http://store.steampowered.com/reviews/

I always thought that it was strange that such a big publisher/seller didn't have a review system.

it bother me that so many good looking gaming keyboards don't have volume knob... got 2 on my reclusa, but they don't make these keyboard anymore, which is a shame.

Yeah it's stupid. Volume controls on a keyboard should be standard.

The skiller has a power down and sleep button which can be annoying if you accidentally hit them but you can rebind it to something else.

Have you hit them? I rarely ever use anything in that dirty right hand corner.

I have twice by putting headphones on top of them and lifting the keyboard.

I get about the same usage in BF3 and BF4 with a 4670k and in BF3 with a 2500k so i wouldn't worry about it if everything is running smooth.

**** off really? Saw you posting loads in the pre-order thread.

Whats the problem with the lineup? I'm picking up mine January/February next year, so that launch console hardware issues are resolved in the next cycle of production.

Launch titles are never good for new consoles....EVER. But Fifa 14 would be enough to keep me ticking over until some new stuff comes out.

Neither console looks to have impressive lineups to be honest. Doesn't exactly sway me either way

I wouldnt go near a awful franchise like COD, If I wanted to play BF4, I could play it on the gaming god machine the PC.

Killzone was the only game that interested me but wasnt enough for me to buy the console just for one game. Knack had me interested but the reviews were slating it.

I may pick up the ps4 down the line but I really need Eircom ***** to fix my broadband issues

I cancelled aswell looking at the next year of games on both systems id rather just wait till 2015 and get one a bit cheaper/with a good bundle. Id sooner get the Xbox One atm given the line-ups ive a pc that will play all the launch games for the ps4 (or their PC equivalents) and theirs not enough exclusives to justify £349+

Lads you know those horizon boxes. Do they even have a web interface or does one have to go into the settings of the box via remote to get the wifi key?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

It's on the bottom of the box. Same as any router.

Ah right. It can I'm sure although you can't just connect to it like you could with a router by going to 192.168.1.1 in your web browser.

    Could be a remote job.

If you find a way let us know.
