Came in to post this. I find it about 20% worse. I charge mine in work, take it off mains at 5 and coming back into work the next day it would never be below 50%. Since the update and with little use in the evenings I've noticed that first thing in the morning its down at around 30%.

Mine too. I used to get to the evening with about 35% battery left since the update it starts beeping at me as I'm down to 10% :(

Thats adverts app issue. alot of the time mines dont work.

try reinstalling it. The app isnt full proof unfortunately, the messages and notifications tend not to sync live.

I wasn't getting push from Gmail, no matter how I had set up the settings within the app itself. Then I found out that you have to turn notifications on from the app manager, as well as within the app itself.

Settings>Apps>Gmail(or any other app)>tick the box for "Show notifications" at the top of the screen

Sent my One back for repair the other day as the GPS hasn’t worked since day one. The lack of GPS didn’t bother me as I never used it, but with a change of job I now need GPS. The screen has a crack in it that I did a while after discovering the GPS issue. HTC won't fix the phone now as they say the phone is damaged and therefore they won't fix the GPS, even though this has nothing to do with the screen. It’s a faulty GPS chip. Totally unrelated. I think that’s really poor form. This phone has been nothing but trouble for me since I got it, I now have to pay HTC £26 for them to return my phone to me. I didn’t expect this after paying so much for a so called "premium" device.

Have you tried going into Settings>Apps>Google Play Store and then pressing Uninstall updates? That should bring you back to the factory installed version. That version might be out of date, so if it tries to update itself, then let it. It will only update to the latest "official" version, and not the apk that you downloaded.

Yeah, tried that, brings it back to Google Play 4.3.10, then tells me there is an update available to it but whenever i try to enter the play store to update it just crashes out....

+1 on reduced battery life since update, used to be very impressed by having 40-65 per cent going to bed, now it might be 15 or 20 or even need to be plugged in by 8pm, crap!

The new update gives you the option to disable blinkfeed. I did that straight away. It didnt make a difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,647 ✭✭✭dragona

I've tried Blinkfeed on and off. Doesn't seem to make any difference to battery life either way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,182 ✭✭✭killbillvol2

Blinkfeed has very little effect on battery.

The single biggest drain for me was the Facebook app. Battery life was OK when I had it running (100%-20% in a full day's use) but is markedly better (100%-50%) since I disabled it.

Battery life hasnt gotten worse but there seems to be an issue with the charge level reported by the phone sinse the sense 5.5 update.
So phones might not be fully charged when they report 100%.

A here are my battery stats from earlier.

    281654.png

As you can see once the phone reports the actual battery percentage it looks like there is a massive 20% drop in 10/20 mins.

    More info here.

thanks but had already removed it - read something online last night that appears to have helped a bit:

go to wifi settings/advanced/allow wifi to scan in sleep mode* - untick this option

*not exact wording but something like that

still at 82% but haven't used it much at all so not sure if this is the answer

Modern phones stop charging at 100% to avoid wear, so if 100% is reported your phone won't charge, even if you leave it overnight it's not getting a full charge.

Have a read of the link I posted.

Posting a link to one post on XDA as if it was a definitive answer to any issue is a load of sh1te. For every opinion on XDA there will be 10 others arguing different things, especially about batteries.

Well you could shift through the entire battery stats thread if you like to se e other people reporting similar behaviour !

And yes if the phone has a 50% charge yet reports 100% and is left plugged in it won't charge.

Just wondering what's the best version of android that I can have on this phone. It's 4.2.2 according to the phone. I'm with Vodafone if that makes any difference.

Still a bit in the dark when it comes to all the different versions of android after apple

Not sure what you'd consider the "best" to be, but the latest one available is 4.3

When exactly you'll get that depends on VF more than anything else. I'm with Three and I got the update to 4.3 about a fortnight ago over the air. 4.4 is the actual latest version, but it's not out yet on the One. If you really want the latest, then you're going to have to get technical into the area of rooting and custom ROM.

As an Android user who came from Apple myself, I'd recommend just getting used to the phone as it is for a while before getting into custom ROMs. They're not technically difficult to get your head around, but there are so many available that you'd want a bit of time on your hands to try them out and find one that you like.

Thats all a bit mind boggling for someone confused by the latest roms.

4.2.2 is a good rom and is very current. 4.3 is out on the One and has some minor UI updates, Vodafone are the ones delaying it for you.

4.4 is the most up to date, and again it adds some minor tweeks, but nothing too extensive. You are not missing out on anything by having 4.2.2

Vodafone released the 4.3 update with Sense 5.5 about a week ago I think? you should update to it as it has improved performance and features from what I can see. Not sure what you mean by "all the different versions of android", 4.2.2 and 4.3 are just the sequential releases of android updates to the system, similar to iOS6/iOS7 etc. You should always have the latest one available. If you're not getting the update notification automatically you should try go to Settings->About->Software Update and check for an update.

On the Google Play Edition version...

    5i26.th.png

Just playing around now, seems nippier. No new launcher though, had to install that manually (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506488)

Just to let you know, Vodafone pushed the 4.3 update with Sense 5.5 last week so you should be able to get it by checkinf for updates.
