Rant: People who put out an incorrect post but delete it before I get a chance to rebut it ;)

A country is a region legally identified as a distinct entity in political geography. A country may be an independent sovereign state or one that is occupied by another state, as a non-sovereign or formerly sovereign political division, or a geographic region associated with sets of previously independent or differently associated peoples with distinct political characteristics.

We're both right. The UK is a country in sovereign state form, and England, Scotland etc are constituent countries of the United Kingdom. Lets call it a draw.:)

I'm not merely talking about anti-English national football team. I'm talking about the people who go on about how much they hate the British in general, but see no problem with supporting Manchester United/Chelsea/Liverpool/whoever, teams who are from Britain. Same goes for Glasgow Celtic. They are a British team whether you like it or not.

Glasgow celtic call themselves a scottish team with strong cultural links to ireland whether you like it or not.

You mentioned people not liking britain not the british, which is odd because according to yourself britain is not a country. But sure if youre initial pint, whatever it was, is very wide of the posts you can always move them.

of course I wouldn't, because while Belfast is part of the island of
Ireland, it is also part of the country that is the United Kingdom (this is not an opinion, it is fact), so why wouldn't the flags be there. They have no need to go back to geography class!

Ah i see. As i suspected Youre making a political point. Belfast is british, and neither scotland nor wales are countries as you mention elsewhere. The fact that scotland is described as a country by the british state for the purposes of devolution is lost on you. The fact that only 3% of scots feel british not scottish is also lost.

So youll be going to scotland will you..." take down those scottish flags, and put up union jacks...and go to geography class tossers!" ? I didnt think so.

Chivito is always right it seems and its not up for debate.

Well you are basically calling a man a criminal when in fact he was never convicted. So that is far worse!

Hardly. Even paedophiles and rapists often dont get convicted of their crimes. That does not mean they havent raped children though does it?

Lads who derail the rant thread. Take it else where and let us get back to petty ranting. The two of ya are a disgrace to petty ranting.

While I'm on it, beer snobs. You wreck my head. Also wine snobs, music snobs and snobs in general.

You know what gets on my wick?
Snob snobs. Those who get in the way of a bit of decent snobbery.

My latest snob-fetish is good coffee. I get excited every morning about trying to make the perfect cup of coffee. It involves fresh beans, a grinder, an Aeropress, a weighing scales, water boiled at the right temperature, and a stop-watch.

Also obsessive compulsives. They really grind my gears.

This was mentioned above but really gets to me - drivers who will be in the right hand lane of a two lane street at a red light and then only start indicating once the light has gone green. This happens so often that I always stay in the left hand lane at junctions because it's almost inevitable that some gobsh!te isn't indicating.

    Bad indicating at roundabouts too.

    And not indicating at all.

Generally, bad use of the indicator is headwrecking. You often see on the telly box someone getting done by the cops (in the States) for "failing to signal" - I wonder when was the last time someone in Ireland was so much as told off for not indicating properly (outside of a driving test)?

Another thing is oul' lads with hankies who very loudly and thoroughly blow their noses. I've been at a couple of large meetings/seminars over the last week and there's been a couple of fellas who've very loudly and repeatedly started parping and rooting away, shudder.

Getting a roll or sandwich in a cafe and being given a half bag of crisps on the side.......i didn't ask for them.......i don't want them........I'll eat 'just one' but end up eating the lot. Seriously when did a fist of crisps with a sambo become mediatory!

Well, at least youve learned that Scotland is a country which could be a golden nugget of knowledge in the oul sports reporting game.

Rant: People who use the term "Irish" or "a bit Irish" to denote anything negative or stupid they perceive about Irish people or this country.

Englands world cup hopes suffer setback after 2 defeats in a row. What world cup hopes??? They won it once, at home when it was set up for them to win 200 years ago. England are ****e at sport that's not cricket and cricket isn't a sport.
People from Sligo leithrem Carlow Wicklow louth monaghan etc who slag Mayo about their record in the Bog Ball All Ireland, when they have only ever seen Croke park on the telly. (particularly Sligo)
    The BBC
    Umbrellas

    Eggs
The self service checkout in Tesco
    Tesco
Ireland Rugby Team ranked 7th in the world. There are only 8 real teams, that's second last.
    Russian linesmen.

Taking the living piss out of us (to levels of unnessessarily extreme cruelty) every time we got hammerred in the dark old days of Sligo football (last 200 years) has a lot to do with it.
And ive seen Croke Park for real on loads of occasions! (but i live in Ballybough)

Gaa and county pride and county / locality pride in general. i just don't get it. i couldn't care less about where i'm from.
leaf blowers on a windy day. wtf?

people who eat smelly lunches in shared offices. inconsiderate bastads.

Ahh ha thats what they want you to think- perceived added value, there's no such thing as a free lunch;)

While I'm raving I might as well drop a load- Sh1t.....dog sh1t to be precise, it's everywhere and camouflaged with leaves at this time of year.
I also can't understand people that do pick it up and then sling it away in the plastic bag, are they trying to preserve it or something?
Worse still was the lady I saw during the summer in cabinteely park. she thought nobody could see her because of the trees. Dog drops it's load, she wipes it's arse with a tissue!!! Leaving the sh1t and skid marked tissue on the grass verge. Turns purple when I run past and congratulate her on her excellent civic actions.
