Anyone reckon the price of the One will drop any time soon? It's still €599 on 3 from Carphone Warehouse which just seems insane for a phone that's nearly a year old.

I was waiting on the N5 reviews and now they're coming and it seems pretty forgettable, the One is definitely more appealing to me.

You could get a second hand one ?

It's only out about 6-7 months now, and for a 32GB it's a very good price. Only €10 more than the 16GB S4 and €80 less than the 16GB iPhone 5.

It should drop. The One is great phone, but 599 today? Not sure if it is fair price. Look around (online/stores etc), or as someone else mentioned the "used" ones on Adverts.

Dont really agree, still the best phone money can buy and still cheaper than an iPhone if your buying new from a store.

Having said that they are going for < €400 brand new on Adverts.

The ones on Adverts were bought as upgrades, so the person is making a couple of hundred straight up cash from the sale.

Worth going for really, the odds of it being a scam are slim with a HTC One compared to Samsung S4 or iPhone 5.

Is it stock or does it have a ROM on it ? did you buy it second hand ?

Should be updated by now. Try a friends sim in it from a different network to see if that stimulates and update.

No its new, sim free, it boots up in vodafone but any sim will work.

Mine is the same as this. Bought new from a shop in Dublin, still had plastic wrapping on it. Its got a Vodafone "Discover" app on it but I don't think it works. Still no update for me either.

Update on my google edition HTC One, since I switched I've definitely noticed an increase in battery life, and the phone seems quicker. You would miss the off bit of sense though - specifically the dialler/contact management, sense interacts with facebook/twitter contacts better than vanilla android.

Hopefully there'll be more improvements in 4.4, which I assume is due this week or next.

I like the stock Dialler but the "People" app is poor on stock android. The Sense people app is far better and looks much better too when you have it linked to Facebook/Twitter. I like how it shows the persons last status/tweet, pretty handy for certain things.

Agree totally. Its the only thing stopping me going full vanilla android. Are people after getting the hangouts update that allows them to use it for sms? I enjoy the emojis but its annoying that they are specific for the actual app an not for an actual keyboard. Frustrating!

Is there a people app that mirrors the HTC experience I wonder?

Yeah I tried the APK of the new Hangouts with SMS but didn't really like it. It was messy switching between SMS/IM which kinda defeats the purpose of Hangouts handling both. iMessage is still a far better app than Hangouts.

I've got emojis on the new Google Keyboard but the phone doesn't seem to display them in Twitter or on Facebook messenger when an iOS user messages me with Emojis. Annoying too.

There's plenty of alternatives, Contacts+ DiallerPro (I think its called) but I'm a bit wary of giving all those permissions to apps like those plus I don't know if they would actually be any better than the Sense people app.

Yeah it's just a poormans imessage at the minute anyway. Long way to go yet!

Google edition should be getting kit kat this week, if HTC stick to their 15 day promise.

    Here's hoping :)

Still waiting for the 4.3 update to get pushed to my phone. Any reason why its taking so long? I bought the phone online from the UK a few months ago and I received the previous 4.2.2 update over the air with no problems.

Pretty similar situation for me. Got the 4.2.2 update after I turned on the phone. Nothing since. Mine is Vodafone branded but unlocked.

I think mine was Orange initially before it was unlocked.

Lads I used the sense keypad for texting but since the 4.3 update I can't seem to change it from the qwerty . Any ideas thanks

Well lads... going to send my phone away for repair and by doing so I imagine it will be wiped. So I tried to put my files from it onto my computer today.... only to plug it in and get a "This device is malfunctioned and windows cannot recognize it" or whatever.... I cant seem to fix this problem. Whats this new update ye speak of? If theres a new update that I havent downloaded yet that might be the problem maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭Harcrid

Try it in a different USB port or a different computer if you have one. New update would not have anything to do with it.

It did surprisingly! I just updated it and my computer recognized it no problem afterwards! What was the new update btw? I'm now on Android 4.3 even though I thought the next update was 4.4? Was it just an update from sense 5 to sense 5.5?

Anyone update to Google hangouts which replaces it says replaces talk.
If I update, what the difference?

It is more than just the icon, hangouts can now be used as sms app, although it's not as good add other sms apps.
Check the what's New section of the app on play store
