They are basing the estimates on the stock they will have available, with demand so high, if they have 5-6 million consoles available from launch till the end of March, they are expecting to sell them all.

I believe that totally but where does it state there is only 1million consoles for the rest of the world this side of the year if all that is is a forecast? Surely if the forecast 5-6 million they can meet the demand? I'm not disputing you or anything the article says I'm just curious about what people have been saying.

During the fourth quarter, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will each see in the neighborhood of 2.5 to 3 million units shipped, according to a new report by Baird analyst Colin Sebastian.

Those expected figures encompass worldwide shipments of the two consoles. The bulk of those will be shipped in North America, with Sebastian stating he expects 1.5 to 2 million units of each console to be made available there.

So that basically leaves around 1 million for the other 42 launch countries.

“Looking further ahead, we expect ongoing flow of new hardware in Q1, which should enable Sony to reach its 5-6 million unit target by the end of March 2014.”

From what various media and analysts have said and people over at Neogaf, it will be the same amount of stock going to the US and Worldwide from January till the end of March, that we saw in 2013.

When you see launch window mentioned by either company it is between November and the end of March.

have one ordered at amazon, does anyone know if the ps4 will fit at parcel motel? thanks.

Yup should easily fit in parcel motel so long as amazon don't put it in a giant box.

There's no trading laws prohibiting Sony and Microsoft from holding back information on supply.
It makes zero sense for them to come out and say ''ah we'll have more than enough to meet demand'' pre orders would fall massively, hell I nearly got roped into pre ordering when I'd no intention of.
There's a certain section of the games market that pre order everything regardless of stock, but by saying there'll be shortages it increases 10 fold the amount of people who put down pre orders which in turn lead to early sales.

Find me the trading laws that prohibit Sony and Microsoft executives from holding back on production outputs.
The shops don't have to be cahoots though as they're on a need to know basis and when they need to know they can place their additional orders.
It's better for the shops and it's better for the manufactures to have people putting down early money instead of hoping people part with the cash when there's a readily abundance(easier to put off and can lead to losses of sales).

Maybe they will end up being short, but I'm not going to buy the word of analysts or the companies themselves who have a vested interest.
I'm going to side with Economics and state that one of the worlds biggest companies matches demand on a long awaited product at the most important time of the year coupled with some free hysteria marketing thrown into the mix.

Also even accounting for any real shortages, as previously stated tonnes of people put down pre orders they never take, this is true at smaller purchases like a new game E50-60, it's even more true for products that cost E100.
I can't see the shops hanging onto units worth E400+ for pre orders longer than a day or two if there's people without pre orders willing to pony up the money in cash at the tills.
How many with pre orders have instant access to the cash?, It's a pretty substantial amount and a lot of people ordered a while back. I know at times from committing to trips or the likes that they can creep up on you, then you don't have the cash even though you thought you would.

I'm confident of taking someones unit at the very least in a shortage scenario.
I agree with you to an extent, The hype that goes with a perceived shortage is basically free advertising for Sony and the more it gets hyped the better. I do believe though that the launch day will be limited, but i reckon there will be a lot more consoles than expected turns up before christmas.

Where i disagree with you is that this is a very highly anticipated console and I dont believe they can meet all the demand before christmas. If you havent pre ordered by now, and you dont get one in any of the stores where pre ordering is not allowed, I would say you have pretty much zero chance of getting one by then.

I understand thanks for all that information but to me they are still saying that is what they expect to sell by launch but doesn't state they are limited to it. Like others said Christmas time is when most consoles will be sold and I'm sure Sony knows that also. Maybe that's me being optimistic. Although it hasn't stopped me from pre ordering either as I have two :P

Would like to see this too

They said it's ALL pre-orders until the end of august on their twitter. So I told them that my local store (drogheda) told me otherwise and whoever controls their twitter told me to ignore what they say in store.

Edit: Link to tweet - https://twitter.com/GameStopIreland/status/399161424737751040

I would go with what they tell you in store, all the stores are different and they know by now how many they are getting in, they changed that tweet to say most people would get them if they order before the 1st of September as well.

Hey Xenji, you seem fairly knowledgeable on this stuff, what do you reckon to Amazons claim to have all pre-orders delivered before Xmas?

I reckon that as it stands they are your best bet, unless your willing to camp out outside of Argos or Tesco, they will not charge you till its ships either which is a bonus as well. As regards whether they will have them all delivered on time, it really all depends on if they get enough stock in to cover all the orders, they have over sold items before and then have told people that only orders placed from a certain date will be dispatched till they get more stock in, I can see that happening again but to a lesser extent.

Another note about Amazon is that you will have more of a chance of getting a bundle, as they seem to have gotten a lot more bundles in then the Solus version, which is in really short supply.

And as if by magic, I just got a call from Smyths in Waterford, they have more killzone megabundles and asked if I wanted to upgrade back to this one again (since I was downgraded a few weeks ago). I accepted and am still guaranteed for day 1.

Anyone ordered late August getting calls from Smyths about confirmation/bundles?

hi lads just one more question in relation to pre-orders. is there some kind of list in gamestop or are they going to check in store date of your pre-order. in store they confirmed that as i did pre order in june i'm in first batch but wondering if there is a list i will go on the night premiere but if they going to check in store each person ticket i think i will collect next day.

They are going by a list, each store has one, except for a handful of odd ones which are doing first come first serve on pre orders, they will let you know for sure that you are getting a few days before release. Not all stores are doing a midnight release but if yours is, they are leaning towards doing a ticketing system and having no cash transactions on the night.

I'm hoping for this call, same happened to me.

I called into Smyths (Airside) on Saturday and they said they are expecting ACIV bundles and may offer those people who lost out on a bundle offer.

They also said that it will probably be a midnight launch.

I'm hoping for something equivalent from Smyths, I can't imaging signing up for any of the bundles would make a difference to them doing an offer on games or hardware on the day but knowing my luck...

Hope gamestop do this for online customers, while those deals are not at the Killzone megabundle level it's better than nothing.

I hope we get something as well. Gamestop have not answered any question relating to online customers. There is something about they are unable to modify the order without losing our spot.
