98 punto with nct till 2015 and tax till 01/01/14 for 350 euro. Says it's overheating a little though.

    Full-24291397.jpeg

Twin reflector lights, raised bump strips, colour coded number plate strip, wide valance mean it's an ELX. That's the 1.2 16v engine with the sought after high lift cams. I'd buy it for the cams if I didn't have a vanload of them already ;)

If it's overheating it needs a hg, simple as. Skim it and do it properly for years more service. The gobsh*te clearly didn't keep on top of the coolant :mad::mad: but the job can be done right for less than £100 ;)

Also, that's 72k miles, none of this kilometer bullsh*t with that car

I love the look of em too...that aggressive snout:cool:

Pity they do not give more info on the condition of the car, what it may need done to it etc.

What does trade sale exactly mean? Was told by one garage it means sold as seen, the car may have issues that need to be rectified and you are buying on that basis and with that knowledge, they wont guarantee the car.

Was told in another garage that the above would also be the case but in addition they could only sell the car to me if I was in the motor trade.

Both were main dealers and of course both were right. Except they weren't, one was obviously wrong

They have a great looking front end, the rest of the styling is very bland though Imo.

Apart from that they are very cheaply built Imo. Not saying they are a bad car just that they don't age very well.

Its a common term garages use to sell off a car without having any liability. It does mean sold as seen but also the disclaimer fit for purpose doesn't imply so in effect your normal consumer rights don't apply.
Ive known a few people who are just regular joe soaps buy cars as trade only.

Ive bought a "trade only" before and never had a problem. Sunroof was leaking. Easy fix. The runoff holes were blocked and a with a bit of wire just flushed it out. However all the carpets and the boot area were a bit wet. But they eventually dried out.
Bulb blown in the front. ecu was just done before buying so a good deal for all concerned.

I dont think Id have a problem buying another one.

Just to add I had to sign a disclaimer from the garage that I acknowledged there would be no come back should the car go bonkers as soon as the money passed hands

VP TDI so needs a distributor pump(not a lift pump like a PD TDI), if that's what's wrong at all, could be lucky. I'd be over with the laptop if it was in galway.

I'd be very interested to see what's wrong with the pump....

ok not running but still !

    moved to fixeruppers!

    Doesn't belong here I think :)
Doesnt start so no test drive, I'd suspect an electrical problem so add a good few euro's to get that repaired so then no where near a bangernomic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,466 ✭✭✭h3000

Not really bangernomics. Over budget for a start and not running. Maybe a candidate for the fixer upper thread.

Not really for this thread so. The €2,500 asking price which he wont move on would also rule it out. Nice car for the money no doubt on the basis that its only a small problem that needs to be rectified, just shouldn't be in this thread.

Might be one for the fixerupper thread if it fits the criteria there...

Edit: Bear1 and h3000 ye's beat me too it

I don't, it just seems like a case of too good to be true! I'm full of shite though, pay no heed

Ok fair enough. On the face of it it does seem like hes almost giving it away at that money. I can see how one might be suspicious but I wouldn't just assume its a dud either.

You never know unless you go. View the car in the metal and take a spin, that will tell a lot. If your unsure take a mechanic along or at least someone who knows a fair bit about cars and what to look for (not just someone who thinks they do).

If that isn't running how has he parked in in the middle of a carpark?

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole tbh. Screams money pit to me.

He may have a pic of the car for some reason from before the time the problem surfaced.

Sold now anyway in the last few minutes. I wonder who bought a car after 22:00 on a dark winters night

If that Jag could be sorted without much hassle or money, I'd imagine that place would have done so.

Whats that worth "fixed up"? £8k?

Its an auto with idrive and leather, probably a few other options on it too , you could probably make a little money breaking it if you got it for 2k

    Seat Arosa '98
    Parked up for 2 years
    €250

Not starting but battery would most certainly be flat sitting that long.
