I'll get my house mate to put it in his name and then just drive it on the old three party extension until it's impounded for no NCT :pac::pac:

    1200 on Irish plates :D

She's crying screaming out for some silver on black background reg plates. New 'post 1980' NCT rules could be the nail in the coffin for that spirit.

I drove through a few non traffic corps checkpoints, with no NCT disc, and once it says vintage on the current tax disc there seem to be a lack of knowledge that it's only pre 79 yokes that need test, last comment by a Garda when no NCT or insurance disc but valid tax disc played was "sound as a pound "

    Volvo S40, 2.0i, NCT 7/14, tax 7/14, €450

    Ad says:
    Issue with start up

Providing its not a heap o' crap, its a bargain imo if you could even get it for €350/400. Drive it till next year and sell it on for what you paid for it.

It could be the intercooler, but I'd hazard a guess more that the turbo hose/hoses has/have splits which would also cause black smoke.
Intercooler damage isn't very common unless it got a whack.
Black smoke is a sign of overfuelling as there isn't enough air to burn off the fuel entering the engine.
If that is the problem then 1k is a bloody steal

Something slightly different and a nice introductory classic.

A number of these passed through the hands of various family members so they have a place in my heart.

    I'm viewing it on Saturday.

Fairly sure I know the owner of that and he is an enthusiast.

    Could be a different person.

He is a definitely an enthusiast anyway. He knew his stuff. Can you PM me who you think it is?

I can't PM you back ba_barabus, as you've got too many PMs already, but good luck with it.

And just to clarify I don't know the seller personally, but I do through forums and a Facebook page.

    What it needs is SCRAPPING.

Am I the only one who universally hates them?

You're in the minority. I like to hate them but I secretly think they're actually quite good for what they are (a corolla sized hatch from 1996)

They all seem to be a poor spec. Now an S3 would be nice however.

Low spec Focus/Golf/Escort/Astra/whatever isn't appealing either to be fair.

I used to hate them years ago when they were a lot more desirable. The type of people that have Qashqais now had A3s back in the day.

Yes but they didn't cost an obscene amount of cash new.

That depends - are you including the S3 in there or not?

Hates a strong word. I don't hate them but dont like them too much. I think they look like a no frills less than adequate budget A4.

I hate all of them! For some reason can never tell from a distance if it's a corolla or an A3. And seeing as the A3 probably cost 50% more than a 'rolla new it's pretty disappointing :pac:
