There's never been this big a gap between them in terms of games before BF4, so not sure what is causing it. But looks like I need to look at getting a new CPU, hadn't planned on it so was thinking of just grabbing the 8320, but wondering if its worth getting something like the 9370 for the long run....if the 8320 at 4.2 or 4.4Ghz gives a framerate like that though I suppose I should just go for that. Was set on going back to an i5 but just replacing the cpu would be so much less hassle.

How are you guys finding the full release of the game? Much improvement from the beta?

I havent got access till 12, wasn really sure about the workaround for early access so thought id wait.

Spent a few hours last night gettin latest drivers and updating everything just to be sure, just have to hope my pc doesnt melt!!

New Scythe Mugen 4 cpu cooler, Samsung 840 pro 128 gig and 8 extra gig of ram arrived in the post.

Some fidgeting required as I am now reminded that the 4pin cpu cooler connector blew on the motherboard when I originally installed the Antec 920 kuhler.

Will need to rearrange fans, x3 3pin case fans back running off the fan controller in the case, will see what I can do about controlling the cpu cooler off one of the spare chassis 4 pin connectors.

Fresh install of Windows 7 complete, Steam and Origin libraries picked back up, BF4 preloading :-)

Seems a good bit better for me at least. Getting some weird graphical glitches here and there but it seems to running alright so far.

Ye have to say after playing for a bit it really performs a lot better than the beta for me. I think it looks great aswell

Kept getting application error crashes at first but realised i had lucid virtu mvp enabled and it conflicts for some reason with battlefield. Disabled that and its running great now:)

BF4 is even more broken for me than the beta was :( See here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057073531

Bf4 is unplayable for me because I cant use ijkl for movement (leftie). IF I try press j and k together it freezes all controls until you let go of one of the buttons. :(.
One good thing though is I can manage it on ultra for 3 screens (2*7970s) which is effectively one 7970 because of the drivers not being fixed yet.

is it a kb issue? ill give left controls a go later to check but thats an odd problem

the key binding system in bf4 is trash

I've tried 4 keyboards on multiple pc's all have the same issue :(. Its a really stupid issue and if I remember correctly bf3 had the same issue in beta and release for about a month before being fixed :(.

its amazing to me that they missed that considering they so many colour blind modes and so many swedish players are lefties

These are the things DICE *ALWAYS* get wrong - interface stuff. Keyboard and Mouse stuff is never great, they had to be majorly harassed to put colour-blind mode into BF3, they seem to have made an effort to include it this time. I can't understand why it takes my machine a minute to reset a key (I think WASD is for loosers, RDFG is where it's at :p).

Out of curiosity, is this good value?

Umm...so why am I getting such crap performance? My game is fully updated, BF3 works fine, just BF4 that I've terrible FPS. Min 60fps?? My min framerate is 7!

It's alright, not a big bargain, nor a lemon, power-hungry components but will run most modern games (even though the 470 is long in the tooth now, it's slower than a 560 ti which can be got for 70 euros ebay) - 500 should include monitor, then it would prob sell

If I had a choice I'd put together a new machine - FX 6300 with 8 gig ram, 1TB disk, case, etc and Windows, shipping, etc would be approx 450 euros shipped

then obviously spend the rest on a graphics card depending how much I could stretch

Yeah I'm looking at building but now I'm in panicked 'my dog destroyed my laptop' mode... I shall avoid this one! Cheers!

Do you have resolution scale above 100%? I get 60fps+ when its 100% on 200% i get 5fps.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Yup. Resolution scale 25%, everything on low, so it actually looks like something from the PS2 era - still 20-60 fps. I've tried disabling cores, overclocking, everything, performance is still garbage and monitor shows extremely high cpu usage always.

Have you tried resolution scale at 100%?

Ive got 2 7950's in crossfire and it seems to scale fairly well for me.

Using the high preset I can get nearly 100 fps with vsync off, I know I can only see 60hz bcause of monitor but just wanted to check. And a mix of mostly high and a few ultra setting, im a sucker for ultra textures and terrain detail, plus a bit of aa and hbao im still getting a solid 60fpd.

And this is at 1440p, so far couldnt be happier with performance.

Im using catalyst control center 13.11v8 beta, 13.9 was terrible for me

Yup, like I've said, I've tried at every setting possible, I've tried turning off cores, overclocking, disabling sli - everything. Nothing will change the fps (overclocking does, but makes it less crap, still no good).

Its strange unless its drivers then as i've no problem gettings 60+ fps on eyefinity 5720*1200 ultra settings with 13.11 b8.

I know AMD are bringing out Kaveri early next year which is a duel or quad core APU with unified memory based on Steamroller. I believe Intel are bringing out a revision of Haswell in 2014, and towards the end of the year Broadwell. I don't really know what to expect from these CPUs, but has anyone any idea if upgrading hardware for gaming desktops in 2014 will be a good idea? I'm on hardware that has seen a few years and I wonder will 2014 be time to upgrade, or will we have to wait till 2015 to get some real muscle?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Ran the 6300 at just 2 cores at 4.2Ghz, fps was 10-20fps at lowest settings. Can't believe that would be accurate.

Wierdly, upped the voltage to 1.37 and its running better on the six cores, though the voltage is way higher than I'd like.

Anyone any further ideas? I'm starting to think there's something fundamentally wrong with the board.

Is this a rig/OC thats been stress tested?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Actually, I ran 3DMark a few months ago, and the result was absolutely atrocious CPU wise, no problems stressing it at 4.2Ghz though. Didn't cop it at the time though, or care really, that it scored so badly, didn't think too much of it. BF4 is the first intensive thing I've run on the 6300, last thing before that was Black Ops 2 which runs on almost anything fine. So I didn't notice the underpowered aspect, though my BF4 performance directly matches my terrible 3dmark score at the time in terms of being so underwhelming.

But 10-18fps on 4.2ghz dual core? That would make it remarkably worse than an old athlon X2. And 30fps average in MP regardless of settings, which is less than 50% of what others are getting at stock speeds even. I've spent all day trawling through drivers, settings, changing hardware even, nothing makes a blind bit of difference apart from :

    1) running on 4 cores instead of 6
    2) raising vcore very high

those don't give huge improvements, maybe 20%, but still years behind what an fx6300 should be achieving. Running at completely stock settings is abysmal, performance you'd expect from an old Core 2 Duo.

Tired of it now anyway so I'm going to just go back to the i5 2500 and forget about this nightmare. maybe send the board back to amazon, wonder what they're like for a return like that.

Just out of curiosity, what board do you have TerrorFirmer?

Does every FX6300 score poorly in 3D Mark?
