I live in Ringsend, Dublin 4 (Beggars Bush exchange) which is listed as efibre enabled. I am being told it will be "some time in 1st half of 2014" before I can get efibre. The nearest cabinet to me was upgraded a couple of months ago but I do know if it is live yet. The Eircom sales guy could not give me any details.

I had a mess around with different phone and house numbers, we are 47 and cant get it, but 1 can

That's the same with every telecoms provider. The first 28 houses in my estate can get UPC digital/bb but the rest can't. It depends on location of exchange/distance to cabinet etc.

Oh, and if they actually want to do their job and give you what you can get.

When going through the online order , if you get to the 2nd or 3rd page it says at the bottom when it's going live in your area once you've put in your phone number on the line tracker if eFibre is available to you , e.g. I was told it would be available from 31st October in Ashbourne , Co. Meath .

It's already available in Ashbourne. 40% of the cabinets are active which is what Eircom declare a "live area".

Any update on when the extended reach will be rolled out? I was with Eircom but VF called and said they could offer same bb for cheaper, so moved over hesitantly as there can be issues with the move over, was without BB for the whole day Wednesday but since I have moved over I have gone from 1.6/1.7 download speed to 4.5 mbs with VF!

Where did ya get that figure from ? Do 40% of the cabs have stickers on them ? I was in touch with reps and they said it would be available from 31st October , not any time before that date .

Let's see if Mahon is really going live on Friday as per Eircom's website

As I expected, it's Nov 1st today and nothing has changed...
Hope to see an update next week, this is sickening :mad::mad::mad:

Is it available now in your area??

It's with Wholesale now and only available on operator request, so in effect it's being tested right now so will probably be on general availability perhaps Dec/Jan once testing is complete...

That's a Comreg figure and published in Comreg documents, it says 40% of cabinets must be active for an area to be declared "live"

The percentage is mentioned several times on this thread. As for Ashbourne, I seen this on the Eircom reps forum.

the extended reach, is this the vectoring that was being talked about earlier or will vectoring extend reach yet again beyond the 2km limit?

    Nice!!

I am getting 12mbs down with VF. But get this,

Both VF and Eircom, when I order the 24mbps pacakge, which the line checker says I can get, tell me my line will only take 5.8mbps.

    Go figure.

Mine doesn't mention what exact speed my line is capable of. This is what mine says:

I got the date for my installation from Eircom when speaking to them on the phone. I got a text confirming the date (6th). I then got a text this morning, without having spoken to them since, saying that my appointment date is the 4th. I called Eircom and the guy on the phone basically said "No, I see nothing on the system to suggest it's the 4th".

Has anyone had this? I really don't want to have to sit at home for the day, but missing the appointment and possibly having to book another doesn't sound great either.

If you spoke to them in the specialised section for eFibre sales and the person said the 6th, then it's the 6th. I wouldn't listen to any of the others unless they were personally doing the job.

    Really?

I checked with the VF checker and it says fibre isnt available but if the extended reach is available it would be. Maybe I should give them a call

Efibre map has been updated again, gives estimated launch dates up until the middle of 2014 now.

Not that it means much, some July-Sept 2013 areas are still waiting to go live.

No, vectoring is different to extended reach. Vectoring is new noise cancelling technology that counteracts noise on your line and allows the line to handle much higher speeds.

Eircom map updated again but showing all areas as Live! I guess they will rectify this error, on the right hand menu they have introduced new colors for each month in 2014 and then jul-dec 2014

My local vdsl cab had a guy yesterday running some tests on it. When I came back last night it now has a yellow sticker. But eircom site saying feb-14 !! I thought I would be golden once I saw that sticker..

There are cabinets in our area with yellow stickers since July/August...we still haven't went officially live. They are taking orders from one estate at the moment (a door sales person was about at Boards.ie poster house).

Cabs down my way had stickers since June but only went live recently, they need 40% or more in an area commissioned before they go live and customers can be connected.

    Hi,

I'm about 7kms from my exchange at the moment and get 0.43Mbs.

This is the Rathcoole exchange in Dublin and my cabinet is about 2.9Kms away.
This is due to be eFibre enabled in January.

Between Vectoring and extended reach any idea what one could expect @ 2.9Kms from the cabinet?

    Cheers

Maybe smarties have the answers for when the 60% in "live" areas will be able to get it

2.9km would be a fair stretch for VDSL. It falls away fairly quickly after 1km.
At 2km they'll only offer 7 down and 1 up. They wouldn't even allow you to order at that distance.

I still get the usual "Sorry, we are unable to determine if your home is fibre-enabled" I wish they'd have a date for when the rest of enniscorthy is going live...I don't like the missus having faster internet than me :P

7 down 1 up though is at the moment without vectoring noise reduction or an extended reach setup though right?

    From Wiki:
ADSL-like long reach performance is one of the key advantages of VDSL2. LR-VDSL2 enabled systems are capable of supporting speeds of around 1–4 Mbit/s (downstream) over distances of 4–5 km (2.5–3 miles), gradually increasing the bit rate up to symmetric 100 Mbit/s as loop-length shortens. This means that VDSL2-based systems, unlike VDSL1 systems, are not limited to short local loops or MTU/MDUs only, but can also be used for medium range applications.

Also in this video @ 2:10 it mentions using 2 pair bonding and vectoring to increase reach so technically it should be possible but weather eircom will do this im not sure.

5Mbs would be a good upgrade coming from 0.43 :/
