Yeah, its nice. Mine is red/wine and I don't really like it. As much as I don't want to outright copy the above Forrester, I think it looks bloody awesome and I have my heart set on matte black now.

The question is: plasti dip or rattle cans or what?

I was wondering this too my aim is to matte black whatever yanktank I end up getting. I would prefer to diy it but I cant see spraycans getting an even finish.

What does one do to matte black a vehicle?

Spray cans can definitely get a good finish, you just take your time and paint like you would with a spray gun. Nice and easy, nice and light.

Wrap would look crap though imo
I think it is either DIY with cans or professional help.

That 535i is a hell of a lot of car for the money. Probably the cheapest v8 bmw that could be bought - especially with NCT.

    +1

NCT '15. He says. Pity there's no pic of the NCT disc though...

    That engine looks familiar :)

Cheapest E30 I've seen, I'm really tempted. Can someone talk me out of it?

From experience there is no way spray cans can match or even come close to a spray gun.

cans are alright for small jobs such as a wing mirror or a spoiler etc. Any thing bigger and they are not much good. Not only do they cover a much smaller area than a proper spray gun but the spray from them also gets blotchy after a while.

Pretty much. It's just too inconsistent, too thin in some cans, ever so slightly different colours, comes out in spurts etc.... I wouldn't do a spoiler with rattle cans but each to their own

Aye. The seller could have removed any doubt though by posting up a pic :)

Not sure why he mentions that the car is currently off the road, yet it passed the NCT in the last few days?

That last part did raise an eyebrow no doubt. Is it actually possible for a car to be tested whilst registered off the road? i.e will they accept it at the NCT desk?

Yeah, NCT don't check tax / insurance or anything like that. And rightly so. Not up to them...

I see. I guess if anyone interested had any doubts a simple phone call to the owner would clear things up.

I have an NCT appointment next week for my Legend and I actually didn't declare it off the road because of it. I imagined they wouldn't accept it but as you say, its not up to them.

    Cheers for that.

Perhaps he brought it to the NCT on a trailer:confused::confused:

    Not Your Ornery Onager

That review is for the older 2.8 diesel and 2.2 and 2.3 petrol years 1991 - 2003
Year of one I posted is 2004, would this be a newer model ?
I say it was registered here as 2004 because it was first registered in UK in that year - still a 2003 model I would say.

DIY with cans would also potentially look crap. But for less initial outlay :P

I might see if there is anything inbetween the cans and professional help option. If I cant do it myself I would probably leave it for a while. You can buy e39s/e30s (or even some of that 850i :P ) with the money a pro would charge.

It's part of the new legislation ,

it's perfectly legal to DRIVE a car declared off the road for tax purposes

to, and from, a BOOKED NCT appointment,

similar case for mot in uk for sorn.
