What a run and finish by Forrest!

Commons is a doubt for Ajax. Hard to know how he'll line up on Tuesday, we just don't have an obvious front man for that level, he'll probably have to stick Samaras up front again.

Yea, I'd go either Samaras or Balde up top with Pukki in the hole. Pukki's link up play is quite good.

Did yd see the Derry peles goal for Barnsley yesterday, makes you wonder what he could have been if someone had the balls to build a team around him

I put a video of it in the 'Best Goals' thread, might as well put it here as well :)

He's not consistently good enough to build a team around, certainly nowhere near good enough for champions league football

Celtic have confirmed that playmaker Kris Commons will miss the Champions League visit by Ajax with a hamstring injury picked up on Saturday.

Mikael Lustig faces a late fitness test after missing the draw at Hibernian with a hip injury, but fellow full-back Emilio Izaguirre returns from illness.

Midfielder Joe Ledley might not be fit enough to play the full 90 minutes in place of suspended captain Scott Brown.

Derk Boerrigter, Adam Matthews and Steve Moyoukolo remain out.

Alot of headaches for Lennon for the Ajax game. Boerrigter cant get off the physio table without injuring himself

Sadly so far that seems to be the case. Looks like we might have found Maloney's replacement:eek:
Pity really because just like Maloney he looks like a good player.

    Commons is out. Big loss

Fcuks sake. No Commons, no Brown, possibly no Lustig? 3 of our best players out is not what we need when we are trying to get our first points in the group.

Would have liked to have seen Boerrigter feature against his old club also.

Need Forrest to be at his best tomorrow.

Things aren't going Celtic's way at the moment, and Brown in particular is a huge loss, but on the bright side we're at home Ajax are really not all that great.

It's a winnable game. In fact if we want to progress further, we must win.

The u19's are winning 2-0, hopefully its a good omen!

    EDIT

    Celtic u19's beat Ajax u19's 4-1.

Certainly highlights that Celtic should be doing more to integrate youth players into the first team imo

Lets hope the first team can pull a rabbit out of the hat and follow suit.

We're going to need a solid game from Kayal & Mulgrew to have a chance tonight, fairly attacking lineup for the players available to us.

Good to see Lustig starting, would've been tough without him.

Pukki & Stokes need to be ruthless in front of goal tonight & Kayal must keep his discipline in midfield, no early or silly bookings. I'm confident of the other players turning in a solid performance.

Scott Brown who? Kayal is the man!! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,529 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

A performance from him that would remind you of what he was like before breaking his ankle.

Ledley was off the pace of the game imo, in hindsight Kayal should have stayed on.

At last we get the ball rolling, Defence has come on heaps.
We lack creativity in midfield though which draws our strikers away from where they should be.
Good win though, I'm still raging about losing the last two games , could have easily been on at least 5 points now

    Pulled from https://twitter.com/celticfc
Neil Lennon on Forrest penalty: He keeps telling me he's never missed a penalty so with Kris out he kept his cool. (LB)

NL: There was a lot of gamesmanship going with their keeper but it was a big moment and came at a good time. (LB)

NL: We were anxious at times in the first half. But as the second half went on we got better and thoroughly deserved to win the game. (LB)

NL on AC Milan v Barcelona draw: It leaves us in a very good position. We have to get a result in Ajax if we can. (LB)

NL: It'll be difficult but on tonight's evidence not beyond us. It's opened up the group and was a massive win in the context of the group.

NL on Biton sending off: I have no complaints. He was late. I'm not convinced there was contact but he left his leg high. (LB)

NL: We could have seen the game out more comfortably for my liking but it's our 19th game of the season, it was a heroic effort. (LB)

NL: I thought Beram was worth his weight in gold tonight and could have had two goals. He can be very proud of his performance. (LB)

NL: Izaguirre was fantastic, Samaras again and Forrest got better as the game went on. (LB)

NL: We can compete with a lot of clubs at this level.Commons, Brown & Matthews would have played but the players who came in were fantastic.

NL on Lustig: It's the ongoing problem with his hip. We will assess him tomorrow but I imagine he will be a doubt for the weekend. (LB)

NL: We've been in every game and that's no mean feat with the calibre of teams against us. We've given ourselves a great chance now. (LB)

I think Lustig should be rested and Darnell Fisher continue playing domestic games at RB until he's 100%

Yes. I think other fringe players in the squad should be used in SPL games, especially prior to CL games.

What is the story with Blade that he isn't getting a chance? From what I have seen from Pukki he looks like a similar type of player to Stokes but with less work rate.

Is Blade just not impressing at training, not fully fit or what?

Balde? I think you might be seeing more of him from here on. There's a place up for grabs up front for Celtic right now, no-one has made it their own just yet.

Balde yeah, stupid autocorrect on phone. I would hope Lennon gives him a game soon, I was amazed he didn't even give him a chance against Morton.

Pukki did a great deal of chasing lost causes last night, his work rate & link up play is quite good.

In the 2nd half last night, was the first time I saw Stokes close down defenders with real conviction for Celtic, usually he just jogs over like he was doing in the first half and against Barcelona & Milan. Stokes work rate when Celtic dont have the ball has generally been very poor for Celtic and one of the reasons he got benched for high profile matches in the past. The times he did close people down quickly in the 2nd half last night he forced mistakes. At the moment, I dont think he has the fitness to do that for 90 minutes but its something he badly needs to work on.

    EDIT

    BXP5KK7IQAAKvKl.jpg:large

Thought he was fully deserving of the MOTM, looks like another player that will be very hard to hold onto in the future.

Did ye see that pen that Real Madrid got tonight against Juve?

Reminded me of the last 16 Parkhead match between Celtic and Juve last season, when there were several similar incidents but no penalty given. Was definitely a penalty btw.

Man of the match for me. Great to see Kayal back to his best. If he can build on this that would be a massive boost for the team.

Manager Neil Lennon admits he is resigned to losing goalkeeper Fraser Forster, predicting that Celtic will not be able to resist a large bid for the Englishman. (Various)

Looks like interest in Forster is mounting, I'd be disappointed if he goes for less than £10m considering his age, potential & current contract length. Replacing him will be traumatic!

We should get more than 15 million for Forster. Hodgson giving him a few caps would help, surely he'll get a few starts in freindlies and pre World Cup matches.

We wont be able to replace him, just get someone young and hope they improve at the club like Forster did - he was a bit ropey in his first season here. Alan Pardew - how wrong he was.
