Bought 2 Taunus coupes to restore back in the day

Very fancy floor / mirrored door in the 'garage'

Here's a Ponton 'from Sweden', currently in Poland ( on it's way to Ireland ?? ) http://cars.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-for-sale/mercedes-ponton-180c/5619353
Wondering about the 2 spare wheel wells on it

The floor is plastic tiles like these:

    652113_472x472.jpg

Not great if you are prone to dropping small nuts and bolts! The mirror is handy when you are on your own and trying to check light bulbs!

The car belongs to some Bulgarian guys who have just opened up a new car service place near me, heading back in with the Passat after lunch to do the steering lock fix, keeping my fingers crossed that it works!

Will get the rest of the long list of failures fixed next week as soon as the parts arrive from the UK. Car parts are a silly price here, I need brake discs and pads all round plus front wheel bearings, timing belt kit, water pump and full set of filters which comes to a royal €1,450 here or €529 from the UK.

Makes you wonder how they can afford to keep their cars in such good order here, although I think a lot of the small places order in parts from Poland which is probably cheaper and quicker delivery than from the UK but I don't have the contacts there.

Looks like that Merc has increased in value a lot since leaving Sweden, this one looks like better value at around €4,000 or highest bid or if you want to save yourself the effort of restoration this '58 220S looks the biz at around €21,000.

Parts and servicing for domestic cars (Volvo, Saab) has always been cheaper than elsewhere, but everything else a bit overpriced.

In the border areas probably even more due to inflated parts pricing in Denmark and Norway.

A lot of people would get parts from either Germany or Poland alright.

Hello Do More, the first one you linked to has a Dublin reg, nice

it would get the few members of the thought police into a flap!

Erhm .. No. That's an old danish registration :) Before Denmark changed to black on white with red surrounds. The white on black numberplates were used until 1976 and the dot and spacing gives it away. You wouldn't have that on an irish reg.

I remember a road test of a new Volvo in the Irish Independent a few years ago and the importers didn't have any RHD models available so they brought over some Swedish registered cars, the journalist got a knock on the door from the local Garda asking why he had the plates off an old Kildare registered Golf on a new Volvo in his driveway!

Or perhaps that needs to go in the Elephant in the room thread. :D

Anyway it's definitely a Swedish reg on that Merc, been off the road since 1988 and last tested in 1987, hopefully it was only wheeled out for the photo and hasn't been sitting there since then! (Looks like it was in dry storage.)

Remember the episode of the 'Pole with the most traffic offences in Ireland' - 'His' name was Prawo Jadzy

    http://regiomoto.pl/portal/sites/regiomoto/files/imagecache/657x/images/regiomotopl/7/prawo_jazdy_01.jpg?mgf3nd

All the thick Gardai had been writing Prawo Jadzy as the driver's 'name' :P:P

I think we've sorted that out, Rugbyman was referring to the AZO on the Ponton pic from Do-more rather than the reg on the Taunus that Marlow thought he was referring to

    Anyway, Do-more,
there's a bit of a trend here that A LOT of people (Irish/East Euro's) think that the punter here is totally stupid and will pay silly money for total crap - sadly a few do conform to that profile and then try to pass off their purchases to others to perpetuate that myth

The biggest problem here is road tax - newish cars here run on CO2 tax so a 09 Range Rover might be €200/yr tax, a 95 Range Rover €1700/yr and an 81 Range Rover will be €56 (?)/yr. Does Sweden have a more logical road tax system

I spotted this 1969 Wolseley MK2 Automatic sitting in a shed at a scrapyard recently. It looked remarkably solid although the owner did say that someone hit it underneath with the forks from a forklift, I'm not sure if it did any damage. He was willing to part with it for €800 when we last spoke.

This was also in the same shed,

The Wolseley is an import so it looks like someone's dream import ended up as the scrap it probably started out as :o

Looks like a tank went over the XR3 :eek:

As An all Ireland sleeping champion, its strange to be awake at this hour,so onto Classic cars I go.

That Wolseley attracts me, my father had a Morris 1300 in 1970 and I enjoyed driving it.it was quite nippy in its day. Thw Wolseley ,and the Riley were the posher versions, with twin carbs(I think).

It was with a little disappointment that as I scrolled down,I saw the import reg.
The car looks in good order for its age, for that price, if I had space it would be mine

That's my opinion as well, UK import = RUST from salted roads in the UK :(
, as well as the reflective plates and the powder blue paint (Wolseleys should have Ace plates, and the paint should be 'Royal blue' or 'Claret red' , leave the powder blue to the Morris/Austin versions ;) ) I'd also be asking how long the importer owned the car because it's like the Christmas pup, some people tire easily with their 'toys', or the 'toys' aren't as much fun as they thought

Being a MK2, makes it a Wolseley 1300, but I think some late MK1s could have optionally being 1300cc.

Riley Kestrel 1100/1300 and MG 1100/1300.

Wolseley = posh slow (single carb)
Riley = posh fast (twin carb)

Always remember the cheeky MOT tester's comment about my Wolseley 16/60 auto, "That just about passes as a carb!" (comment on the standard single 1-1/4" SU carb on the 1622cc B-series engine)

I had a 1964 Austin 1100 MK1, it wasn't exactly nippy, but you could keep the speed on on the twisties as the ride and handling was exceptional for its age.

If I had the space I would buy it. Just last year I had a 1966 Austin 1100.

As you don't have the space, make do with a money box (1:18 scale?)

I had three done in Tartan Red, but it was about 20 years ago now. Don't know if the potter is doing them any more or if someone has the moulds. I'm not sure of the scale (or that of Bertie Bus for reference) but I'd say it was about a foot long.

I was strolling along the Chanel road this morning and came across the following,

    EP80 Starlet van
    MK3 Fiesta
    Fiat Tipo
    Mazda 323f
    MK5 Escort
    EF Civic
    Old Galant
    Peugeot 405
    Volvo 440

If anyone is close to the area I'd recommend taking a quick walk through the place. Its like being back in the 90s! Absolutely amazing.
