1988 G-Wagon with homebuild offroad caravan in Fishguard last night. The german couple that own it are in Ireland for a week, so you might spot it.

    I nearly forgot.

Followed this Ford Transit into Rosslare harbour on Thursday.

Beaut and quick, too, with a 2.4DI engine in it. It's a 1979 registered Ford Transit Custom.

Wicklow registrations in the format "nnn PNI" ran from March 1985 to about September 1985.

Might have been brought into Ireland in 1985 then. I talked to the owner and he told me it's a 1979.

Must have trouble finding tail lights and quarter bumpers, as they are from a later model...

(The auld fella had a 1979 Transit 12 seater Minibus for 5 years. Bought around 1980)

Not unlikely. I used to have a 1985 myself and that was the last year production before the new model came in 1986.

But it's not uncommon, that there's a bit mix and match going on. It's easy with Ford.

In March 1978, a facelifted version, commonly known in some markets as the Transit Mark II debuted with a restyled nose section

I had 600 DNI Capri 3.0S and 82 D 418 2.8Injection so PNI is later than 81 - and the one-piece door was rarely seen in Irish Transits ......

I remember seeing them on UK RAC-spec Transits, but not much else.

The very last of that model Transit all had one piece doors iirc, I think it was the custom model.

The door would be handy for keep the rain off anyone who had to work at the roadside rather than deliveries :)

Aye. That's the reason VW Transporters mainly have tailgates, especially when used as camper.

Are you sure that is a home built caravan? I've seen one of those before - I recognise the tyre mark sticker. Could they be a kit?

Yeah, nice motor, lots online about it too if you Google it. Original estimate was £12-£16,000 and bidding just took off, sold to a bidder on the phone but there were at least three bidding for it in the room, sold for £38,000 plus commision. Seriously thinking of converting one of mine to an estate!!

    Speaking of Triumph Stags...

Here's one with a TR6 I saw over the weekend. Or at least my 3 yr-old car obsessed spotter saw them first!

The stag and 6 are both members of the TCOC who were out in Frascati SC last weekend doing their annual collection for the Laura Lynn Foundation

Yes, I'm sure. I talked to the owner. They restored the G-Wagon themselves from ground and up. They also build and painted the trailer themselves.

Even if it was a kit, it was unlikely to have the tyre mark sticker on delivery, as that still would need painting.

Obviously, being a german registered trailer, there would have been some pre-fabricated components to make it through their TüV approval (like the A-frame), but anybody can paint those tyre marks on their trailer.

Matter of fact, this is their first trip with the trailer and we were discussing how you only find out on the first trip, what's missing in regards to usability.
