There was a beauty salon around the corner. They did this, that, and the other. There was a girl who sat outside and did acrylic nails. She was booked out from morning to night. Apparently she was amazing, you had to book weeks in advance to see her. And I don't know how much a set of acrylics cost, I think about 50, and then you have to have them 'filled' every two weeks. Anyway, she was keeping the place open is all I'm going with here. One girl out the front kept a roof over the head for about 6 of them. It is skilled, and it's very much in demand. The right technician can make or break your business. Even if your spelling IS atrocious.

But apparently it's a highly technical professional role? Surely if such skilled people are going to be attracted the job advertisement should be done professionally - to keep away the bimbos? Oh wait...

to keep away the bimbos? Oh wait...

    Seriously

    Seriously

Can we agree first on the existence of bimbos? Then agree that since these 'bimbos' (and bimbros if we're being PC) will likely gravitate towards specific professions.

    "Nail Techs"!? - Even better.

    Ah come on now Ted.:D

Is your issue with them using the word 'technician' in the job description?

Huh? Never heard that word before in my life. Lol at the inability of people to understand what "PC" means.

    Such as??

I was in a Nail Saloon (that's how it was spelt) once. No, really. With the bird a couple of years back.

Two things struck me when I was in there

    1. What the fcuk am I doing here?

    and

    2. Most of the nail technicians were the quintessential "bimbos" - or very close to that description put it that way. They didn't come across as particularly "technical" but they were working hard all the same.

    Such as??

Thought we could all do it together.
'Bimbo is a derogatory slang term for an attractive but unintelligent female'

I know a couple of nail technicians who are attractive, I can't speak for their intelligence as I lost touch with them after the junior cert when they left school, for all I know they could be geniuses

    What are safer medical devices?

It was wordplay, a Portmanteau of the words 'bimbo' and 'bro', I was called out earlier in the thread for using the term bin 'man' so I felt I had to include a male version. Lol at the inability of people to understand what a joke is

And I say that nice and sincerely :)

I was in a "garage" once.

Bunch of layabouts. They were working hard but how hard is it to change a tyre?

What the fcuk am I doing here?

    Precisely.

As you cannot answer even one of the questions that I asked, that any competent nail technician could probably give you 30 minutes on the ins and outs of, it is clear you are entirely out of your depth when it comes to this profession.

I gave you a chance to save face, hint: when you are in a hole, stop digging.

Just because I haven't read the answers to your questions off a powerpoint down the local community centre doesn't mean anyone who does deserves to be exalted as a 'technician'

Are they not just artists who paints nails rather than canvas? If anything, they should be called nail artists like tattoo artists. There's nothing that "technical" about their job.

Actually, tattooing as a job is far more about techniques than it is about art.

So Mr Snobby, what's your job title? And level of achievement? Grade 3 High Horse?

Nail techs with 3 years experience generally have a NVQ Level 3 - that's the same level as a Lab Technician.

The VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services (QCF) is a job ready qualification based on National Occupational Standards for Nail Services. The qualification will complement the skills, knowledge and understanding gained at Level 2 and is focussed on producing highly proficient, occupationally competent professional Nail Technicians. The qualification contains advanced nail enhancement techniques including the use of electrical equipment.
Candidates can progress to this qualification from level 2 as it encourages candidates to develop a specialism within the beauty industry. This qualification is suited to learners who wish to advance in their profession, those who wish to specialise in nails within their profession or to become nail salon managers and / or owners.

The VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services (QCF) provides learners with the necessary skills and understanding to work as a Senior Nail Technician. Candidates can progress directly into employment or self employment with this qualification as a Nail Technician.

Another example of a wiff of elitism off a boards poster. Sure I suppose anyone who doesn't work in finance or IT isn't in a proper job at all.

    Why would I answer them?

Because surely any "bimbo" can...but clearly you cannot.

Currently a barman, though I might see if my manager will change that to 'beverage technician'

Didn't read that qualifax nonsense, they'd made a sh*t shoveller sound like a master tradesman

Well, as someone who works with their hands for ten hours a day, I have to admit that I take a dim view of finance and IT as "proper jobs".

Do you think cocktail bartenders are different from barmen? Do they have a higher level of skills and/or training?
