Fancy a role as a "nail tecnician"?

Perusing a high profile employment site for "highly technical and advanced roles" to see what's going at home at the moment and came across this. This looks a bit too advanced. :pac:

Nail Technician *** North Dublin (*****) ( ****************)

Almost intimidating. Until you read on...

Due to the expansion of this business, we now require a part time nail tecnician.

The role is part time initially, 24 hours per week minimum. The role (like others), can

develop into a full time role if that is what you are looking for, but would require the successful candidate

to be able to develop the existing client base.

You must be completely competent in acrylics and schellac and all other nail trearments. *actual spelling*

You will ideally have at least 3 years experience in working with nails.

Any other bizarre job descriptions out there? Actual ones like that one. Not makey uppy ones.

That position is there if anyone at home is interested incidentally! Maybe I helped one person find a job.:P Doing my part for the economy.

There was a beauty salon around the corner. They did this, that, and the other. There was a girl who sat outside and did acrylic nails. She was booked out from morning to night. Apparently she was amazing, you had to book weeks in advance to see her. And I don't know how much a set of acrylics cost, I think about 50, and then you have to have them 'filled' every two weeks. Anyway, she was keeping the place open is all I'm going with here. One girl out the front kept a roof over the head for about 6 of them. It is skilled, and it's very much in demand. The right technician can make or break your business. Even if your spelling IS atrocious.

But apparently it's a highly technical professional role? Surely if such skilled people are going to be attracted the job advertisement should be done professionally - to keep away the bimbos? Oh wait...

1. What the fcuk am I doing here?

2. Most of the nail technicians were the quintessential "bimbos" - or very close to that description put it that way. They didn't come across as particularly "technical" but they were working hard all the same.

I know a couple of nail technicians who are attractive, I can't speak for their intelligence as I lost touch with them after the junior cert when they left school, for all I know they could be geniuses

So Mr Snobby, what's your job title? And level of achievement? Grade 3 High Horse?

Nail techs with 3 years experience generally have a NVQ Level 3 - that's the same level as a Lab Technician.

The VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services (QCF) is a job ready qualification based on National Occupational Standards for Nail Services. The qualification will complement the skills, knowledge and understanding gained at Level 2 and is focussed on producing highly proficient, occupationally competent professional Nail Technicians. The qualification contains advanced nail enhancement techniques including the use of electrical equipment.
Candidates can progress to this qualification from level 2 as it encourages candidates to develop a specialism within the beauty industry. This qualification is suited to learners who wish to advance in their profession, those who wish to specialise in nails within their profession or to become nail salon managers and / or owners.

The VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services (QCF) provides learners with the necessary skills and understanding to work as a Senior Nail Technician. Candidates can progress directly into employment or self employment with this qualification as a Nail Technician.

Well, as someone who works with their hands for ten hours a day, I have to admit that I take a dim view of finance and IT as "proper jobs".
