Just a recap on totals for the month of September and Year to Date!

    Monthly (km)|Year to Date (km)
    209|927

*Also did 175km on my bike, but gotta keep that quiet around these parts!:P

So almost a quarter of my yearly total in September!
Didn't realise I had such a poor start to the year until I just looked back over my log now.

Note to self: Must do better at the beginning of 2014!:pac:

    Saturday 5th

    (20m) 32k @ 6:04/km

Another great LSR under the belt. I met up with Skidrow and lmguillou again for this one. We all were doing different distances, so we staggered our starting times so we'd all finish around the same point. Hadn't been 100% all week so was really looking forward to this one for a few days now.

Another lovely day for it too, don't think I ever remember the weather being this good in October, so try to enjoy it while it lasts. Looking back over the garmin now, we seemed to keep a good pace throughout although ever so slightly picking it up towards the end. Then did the last 5km at 5:20/km, while it was a little tough to pick it up after 18m but managed to keep it consistent and felt good finishing.

So happy to have three 20m+ runs under my belt now heading into taper. Feeling good right now, but don't know how long that will last if the taper madness sets in! :P

Good work today. You should have got plenty of confidence from that when you were able to pick up the pace for the last 5k :)

Thanks lads, these group LSRs definitely lighten the load of a 20m+ run. This is my 4th marathon and in previous ones I did most of the 20milers on my own and did not enjoy them.
Maybe try 12-14m of marathon route next week?

Isn't too long? I have 12 miles on the plan I'm following, 15 may be too much 2 weeks before the race no?

Just seeing this now lads.......thinking 15 might be a bit too much aswell, would prefer to do around 12-13, dont want to overdo it over the next few weeks.

Up to my eyes here today, so will try get back on later and sort something out then!

12m on DCM course, leave one car at Fosters Ave?

The last one there looks good...

Another idea could be to run from mile 13 to mile 25 of the route. Maybe myself an lmguillou could meet somewhere around merrion sq, leave one car there, drive to walkinstown and run from there back to merrion sq.

That way we could do the whole run on course and have a car at the end to drop you back/collect the other car!

A bit awkward maybe but I don't mind too much as its only a once off thing, and only if it suits everyone?

I shouldn't have checked the forum today, with all those posts regarding the tapering period I feel like 12 miles is not enough!! With the begining of my training plan being jeopardised because of my achilles at the begining of the summer, the bad experience during the half last month I feel like I should run more this weekend...

12 miles is plenty, you have more than made up for the missed time due to the achilles already!

    Tuesday 8th

    (6m) 10k @ 5:02/km - Tempo

Out early again for this one. Moved this run to today as I missed it last week when I was sick.

    Did 1km @ 6.15/km,
    8km @ 4.40/km,
    1km @ 6.15/km

Thats the last tempo of the plan done now. Felt good considering i dont like early runs usually!

Dont normally post here about crosstraining days, but....

Did a 50 min crosstraining session today on the bike, which I just incorporated into my commute. Almost got taken out of it by some clown of a pedestrian who stepped out into traffic.....headphones on, oblivious to the world until I literally brushed off him after swerving to avoid him.

It would have been a disaster if I came off and injured myself so close to DCM, because I don't think I would have been able to run for a while after getting my foot surgically removed from his a**e!;)

But, on a serious note, Ill think ill cut out the commuting by bike till after the marathon now just in case....can't be too careful these days!

    Hi Rob/L,
Can u bring some extra water to leave in the car for Saturday?

Felt tired Mon/Tues , runs were a struggle on those days.
Decided to take a few days rest, no running wed-fri.
Hope it does not affect my fitness level!?

I will use my belt for gels/water on Saturday. Shouldn't need too much for 13 miles.

    Not long to go now.

    Thursday 10th

    (6m) 9.6k @ 5:54/km

Nice easy paced run tonight. Bit chilly out though, had to dust off my winter gloves again!:(

    Saturday 12th

    (13.1m) 21.1k @ 5:57/km

Met up with Skidrow and lmguillou again for this one. We had planned on running some of the DCM route and finally decided on doing the last 13m or so. This meant leaving a car either end and running from A to B. I had never run any of the route, bar the bits through the Phoenix Park, as I wouldnt normally be out running anywhere near it and tend to stay off busy roads when running as I hate stopping/starting to cross!!

Got out bright and early from the halfway point and made our way into town. Its a nice route and was good to run somewhere new for a change, and good prep for the big day! Elevation is a bit up and down, but nothing major.....tackled the infamous "Heartbreak Hill", or so its called, about halfway into this run, and while I had a lot less miles in the legs than I will on the day, it was nothing to worry about and have definitely tackled tougher hills on longer runs before! So hopefully it wont be a big deal!:o

For the final third of the run we decided to pick it up a bit and covered the last few km at a good pace, in and around PMP. Finished up back in Merrion Sq at exactly HM distance, had a quick stretch and got outta there. Looking forward to being back on Merrion Sq again in two weeks time.....hopefully feeling in the same condition!!;)

Getting v. excited about race day now, cannot wait for the 28th!:D

    Sunday 13th

    75min Crosstrain

Got out for a spin on the bike today, nice and relaxing until my rear tyre went 'POP' about halfway in. Nothing like changing a tyre on the side of the road on a chilly day in October!

Just looked at my training spreadsheet there.......I am 140 metres short of 1,000km for the year.........Feel like I should do a lap around the block before bed!

    Tuesday 15th

    (4m) 6.4k @ 5:59/km

"4 miles? Whats the point in that, sure I could do that in my sleep?".......is what I was thinking before heading out today for this one. The last 4m run I did on my plan was the 20th of June!

It went fine anyway, was actually nice to be finished up and back home in under 40mins! Wore my heart rate monitor tonight for the first time, thinking Im going to start training with that after the marathon, so just trying it out. My average HR was 70% of Max HR. I wonder is this about right for an easy pace run, or should it be a bit higher?

    Finally Ill finish with some signs that the taper madness has arrived;
    • I feel like the only un-infected survivor of a zombie cold sufferer apocalypse
    • Due to this, my senses have become finely tuned to detect people sniffling/sneezing/coughing anywhere near me.....I feel like I could hear it across a crowded room!
    • I had the piss taken out of me due to the amount of hand sanitiser I've gone through in the last two days (should have bought in bulk!)
    • I have also issued (empty) threats of physical harm to friends and family who are conspiring to make me sick.....these threats will soon be extended to fellow passengers sitting near me on the bus!:P
    • I felt more uneasy about a 4m run tonight than I did about 20m LSR's. And also the fact that my total mileage this week is equivalent to past LSR's!
    • This in turn had me trawling back through my log worrying if I had been putting in the mileage at all the last few months, but have now reassured myself (probably temporarily!)

    Thursday 17th

    (4m) 6.4k @ 5:55/km

Nothing of note to report today, similar run to tuesday, same route, same pace!

Spent a good while stretching this evening just to keep loose, I feel like my muscles are turning to stone but it's probably just in my head with the build up to the 28th! No harm in stretching out though, plenty of it the next ten days or so! :D
