SO how many devices are cabled ? And are they cabled into a switch or a hub ? Is your issue to connect to other Lan devices or to connect to the Internet ? If Lan to Lan, do you mean wired Lan to Wired Lan or does Wireless enter the mix ? If wireless, set any access points to G only or G and N. Have you got one or many access points ?

Sorry for all the questions but it's the only way to understand your setup and hopefully to get you sorted.

IP conflict? Did you remove the static IP champion had on the box and re-enable DHCP?

    Yep

Aa2 wired connection to ASUS router which is wired into UPC modem (bridge mode)

I have the aa2 on dhcp and the ip it's receiving 192.168.1.1 is not even visible as an attached device in the Asus gui ? Yet it's has Internet access.

When I switch on the Aa2 it's literally brings down all wireless devices (iPad, laptop) to snails pace when connected to the Internet.

I can demo it by doing a speediest and it works fine, but if I switch on the Aa2 in the middle of the test it's plummets in performance and hangs, and vice versa if I start a speedtest with the Aa2 switched on its goes nowhere, but then switch it off and the speediest will act accordingly and respond positively.

another side issue is that HD channels are fine for about ten secs then go black for a sec then back on?

So what ip is your UPC ?

If it's bridged it won't have an IP

Would assigning the alien a static ip address and then perform your speed tests again tell you anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭championc

You can bet that the def gw is going to be either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 and I bet it's the former. Set your DHCP pool for maybe .101 thru .200. If you're connecting to a device on your Lan, set the device with a static. I would expect you to be connecting to your box using Dreamdroid or OpenWebIf. You've then got Samba too. And of course you'll end up using Filezilla and Telnet too

Once you set it to a static which you know 100% is not being used by another device. It's good to have a plan in terms of a planned bank of addresses for statics and a completely separate DHCP range (in the same subnet)

If it's a Cisco EPC2425, don't bank on it - Wireshark could produce interesting results :)

Or better still, use static DHCP. Plenty of routers have this, it's sometimes called address reservation. No chance of making a mistake

I certainly wouldn't have the pool starting at .1 or finishing at .254 though but I do agree with you Smee. Of course, it's also on the proviso that you only have a single DHCP server on the subnet ......

Ok pool now changed to .100-->.200 and I managed a reserve the new .70 address to the aa2

I will see how we get on.

Just back to the other side issue; im getting a 1 second drop out (black screen) on any HD channels ..eg I'm watching Bbc2 HD now and every 10 odd seconds it drops out?.

Should the reserved address not be out of the DHCP pool? Static DHCP means it reassigns the same IP each time and remembers it after a reboot.

BTW, what's the address of your router - .254 ?

Re BBC2HD, how's your dish alignment assuming it and the LNB will be soaking wet ?

    Router:192.168.1.1

Dish and aerial just got mounted this afternoon :(

I might switch over to spark and see if I'm am seeing the same 1sec drop out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭championc

So router and AA2 both had 192.168.1.1 then :)

If installed only today, it can't have moved so it's pointing to a poor installation I'm afraid :(

For anyone installing a dish in dry weather, simulate rain by covering the LNB with a wet J-Cloth. A perfect picture in rain (or simulated) obviously means a perfect picture in the dry

I was confused there and went back and read my post and that too was a typo. The I.p the aat2 was originally assigned .2

Trust me I was confused today but not that confused

OK, so can you now connect the Aa2 without issue ?

    Yep.Thanks by the way .

I'm gonna try later (missus hogging the remote) to see if I am seeing the same drop out on channels over on the Spark side.

Jeez I was hoping I would be getting my head into understanding and configuring "c" **wink wink by now on the aa2 , but that's gonna have to wait til tomorrow now.

Why not just press INFO on the image you have :) ?

Coz that only shows you info for the channel your currently watching. This let's you see now and next for all channels by clicking left or right without having to change channel.

Ah, gotcha, I was expecting some sort of list but the screen pics didn't do it justice

I could never get that to work properly on the HDMU images ,you could only go forward or back a couple of channels.

I guess I better try upgrade to a newer e2 image. Is there any updated version of pogmothoin's tutorial steps on here?

Working fine for me on Hyperion 2 and open ar-p images.

The tutorial steps should work fine with any image

You could also get championc's images in the firmware thread and install them, as they are backups of an existing working system, they can be restored onto your box with plugins etc installed.

Weirdly I am not seeing the same 1sec drop out of channels when viewing the same channels (eg ITV hd bbc2 hd) on Spark

anyone got another image that they know is rock solid stable for me to try? just so I can try and source the problem.
