Coleman's only hope is to grab an assist.. He'll have to get through a rock solid defence to do that so he's on my bench this week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,073 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

At present, I have both and both are playing... vive le difference, vive la defence ;)

I'd probably opt for Collins if I switch from 5 to 4 at the back, but it's not a clear cut for me.

The obvious factor is that Chelsea are the better opposition.
But Everton at home & I feel that Chelsea are a couple of months away form being a real strong attacking force (Mourinho tends to focus initially on creating a solid defence and building on that) are the two main factors that put Coleman in the mix. That, and 2 clean sheets from Everton (albeit against weak teams) in a row.

I'd just wedge for Collins, but only by a bit, I don't think an Everton clean sheet is out of the equation.

    De Gea

    Wisdom, Terry, Dawson, Collins

    Walcott, Nolan, Paulinho

    Giroud, Benteke, RVP

    Subs: Davis, Gabbidon, Brady, Barkely

    0.8m in the bank

Wisdom is a big gamble... And if he doesn't play you're bringing on Gabiddon from Crystal Palace against United? No way he'll score more than a point

Paulinho will be playing deep for the most of the season so you're talking 2 or 3 points per game..

Collins - West ham don't exactly have the strongest defence in the world..

Not much point having two 5.0 subs.. wasting 0.5 because you more than likely will only play one of the two if you need to play one at all

Paulinho has always scored goals from a relatively deep position, he's worth a gamble going on the evidence so far, I have him in my team at the moment, he'll be gone soon enough because I'd like Lamela but I'm happy enough to persist with him for a few more gameweeks, I'd be disappointed if he didn't chip in with a goal or a few assists soon enough.
I'd be slow enough to get Wisdom in until we see how they line up this week but it would be inspired if he was given the nod in the absence of Johnson, personally I don't think he will.

Wisdom is a gamble alright but with Johnson out the right back spot is up for grabs and Brady will be firs sub so he will be coming in if Wisdom doesn't play and Brady is at home to Cardiff so I wouldn't be hugely against him coming in

Paulinho is playing deep but he gets forward quite a bit and has had alot of chances in the last few games

West Ham have only conceded 1 goal in the first 3 games, not bad for a 4.5m defender

Who do you reckon will start at right back, I only put in Wisdom for now, using my wildcard and have the money to upgrade to Toure if needs be but it's very hard to know who will play there

As I said above though, Brady at home to Cardiff isn't something I would be afraid of doing this weekend if Wisdom doesn't play

I wouldn't like to guess to be honest, Wisdom got a lot of game time last year without ever really impressing, as someone else said he was nearly shipped out on loan. I can't recall seeing Toure playing right back but others say they have, he's been playing very well and it allows Sakho to come straight into the team.

According to the updated team news on FFscout Wisdom and Kelly will battle for the RB spot with Toure and Agger keeping their places, we'll all have to wait and see.

Ya, might take a chance on Wisdom an leave him on the bench this weekend and play Brady, can always take him out next week after I know what way they are lining up

Was the "bib theory" that many of us used last year as an indicator of Roger's team for the weekend proven to be a load of bunkum for a finish?

From what I recall it was reasonably accurate. Liverpool play monday so we wont be able to use it this week anyway.

Re Collins at 4.5 Id say he is one of the best value defenders in the game. Allardyce always has his teams well organised and good defensively.

Think I'm gonna wildcard. This is what I'm changing to now, open to changing it if I like any suggestions.

Westwood//Boruc. I don't mind rotating them. Already in my team and they've done ok so far.

Zabaleta//Coleman//Walker//Sakho//Chester. Will change Walker to Chiriches if he's starting. Liverpool paid big money for Sakho, can't see him sitting on the bench for Toure. The other three were already in there from the start. If people have good alternatives to Sakho I'd be happy to hear. Would consider picking someone cheaper to boost my midfield.

    Lampard//Nani//Brady//Scott Sinclair//Redmond
I don't think there's a lot of value in the upper price range here, particularly with the new bonus points. To be honest I'm not entirely sure what I want in midfield, definitely open to criticism here. Will probably only go with 3 midfielders most weeks depending on fixture kindness.

    RVP//Giroud//Soldado
    No explanation needed..

I think I'm either going to settle for a spine of 4 top defenders, 2 top midfielders and 3 top strikers.

    OR

An absoluteely crazy 5 top defenders, 1(!!!) top midfielder and 3 top strikers. Play my main mid and 2 home mids each week.

I'm not feeling the love as much this year, so I might just go with my gut this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,022 ✭✭✭✭Iused2likebusts

There has been a severe lack of goals so far this year as soon as this changes (which it will)midfielders will start to be in the points again. They just wont be getting as many BPs as last year.

I'm going with option 1 of the above. The 2 mids are Silva and Walcott. Walcott I plan to keep. Silva may be changed when someone rears their head as an expensive mid to have.

I was thinking I'm going for a hybrid of both 5-2-2... purely because I'm getting a tiny bit nervous with all these 3 strong striker teams out there:

But my team at present and my gut is favouring 5-3-1 because below has been my thinking.

Com'on midfielders, get the finger out.

What do people think of this team? Playing wildcard this week

    Any obvious omissions here?

I've played my WC and after a lot of iterations I'm reasonably happy with this.

Decided to keep the faith in RVP and shop in the premium aisle for defenders in the hope of picking up BPS. Although there's (seemingly) not much value in MF this year Ozil and Gerrard should nick a few assists along the way and filled out the rest of the midfield with the best of the budget players so far.

    Mignolet

    Zabaleta
    Mertesacker
    Vidic
    Dawson

    Ozil
    Gerrard
    Brady

    RVP (c)
    Giroud
    Bent

    Given, Whittaker, Redmond, Ward-Prowse

I like your team. Only changes I'd make are:

Dawson out - Spurs have had two clean sheets which is surprising for them because they generally aren't good at keeping them. Is there any way you could work in a Chelski defender like Cahill?

I'd swap Gerrard out for Silva or Coutinho if possible.

My only worry with Cahill is whether JM will roate and play 2 from JT/Luiz/Cahill

I went with Gerrard mainly because he's the driving force of the Liverpool team and takes corners + pens. I considered Lampard for these reasons but Gerrard is less of a rotation risk than lamps

    +1 to the Coutinho swap

But Cahill? Surely Terry is more nailed on than Cahill

I'm waiting with my own team to see what happens but my hope is that Luiz will play in midfield with Terry/Cahill as the established centre back pairing.

People seem to underrate Cahill. At the end of the day, he's an England international. People thought he wouldn't start before the season and he's started every PL game so far.

Looking for some feedback on my own team! I've Wildcarded this week so I'm thinking of swapping out Begovic and going for someone like Mignolet.

Surely Vidic is a better option than Jones at the same price..

    Ivanovic on the bench!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

I see Phil Jones as more of an attacking option and more likely to get assists throughout the season... Vidic will get the odd header from a set-piece but I'm worried about his fitness.

As for Ivanovic, I have him on the bench at the moment because I'm not sure what Mourinho will do now that Luiz is fit again!

Vidic every day of the week - more nailed on (although not completely with CL games looming) and more likely to accumulate BPS; great value at 6m this year

I'm sorry but Phil Jones has absolutely no attacking threat whatsoever! I hate seeing him take up that RB space while Rafael is out.. Fabio deserves it

Vidic will play 80% of games, Jones will play 2 out 5 through the season.

Jones is a doubt for the weekend. Rafael will reclaim that spot when he returns.

Vidic is hoovering up Bonus points.

Vidic with a clean sheet and a regular performance will outscore Van Persie and a goal most days of the week. Vidic will get 3 BPs faster under the new system.

    Ivan >>> Ward-Prowse

Ivan and Luiz play 2 different positions.

Vidic will play more than that I think.
