I did say looks a certainty ;) the problem with Chelsea's mids is they have too many, add in William and it will be impossible to pick there attacking 3 midfielders, i would like to try oscar but he will no doubt be roated also, i don't want to be left without Chelsea coverage, I see them as favs for the league but it is impossible to find a bargain way into their team, i am going to chance Lampard for now. Lescott will get a chance to nail down a spot in the City defence, with natasic already out and Kompany out for the next month or so he has little competition imo. Would love to go with Zab but i can't find the extra .5

Lescott could be out after this weekend. Nastasic is going to be back and Kompany expects to be back for GW4 after the international break.

I don't think managers prioritise competitions per se. They tend to prioritise individual games.

If Arsenal have Hull at home on Saturday and a must win game against Dortmund on Tuesday, there is a good chance players will be 'rested' for the Hull game.

If the Dortmund game was meaningless (Arsenal already qualified) then a full strength side would be used for the Hull game.

It's not really possible to 'know' when players will be 'rested' (hate that word) until the importance of individual games are known.

I agree with what you are saying but on a number of occasions I've seen people say that teams have CL games so players may be rested, people automatically assuming that the CL will take precedence.

Two seasons ago, for example, Balotelli started every CL game iirc for City when he was not first choice PL striker. Aguero who was first choice started fewer than Balotelli and Dzeko. That, for me, showed that Mancini was prioritising the league if anything.

Chelsea have often used players like Oscar or Moses in CL games who were not at the time nailed on PL starters.

I expect huge rotation at Chelsea this year, for example, but my gut feeling is that Mourinho will play his better team in the league in the group stages as his priority will be to win it above other competitions.

Wildcard needs to be used before Saturday, need to make a decision, what ye think of this?

    Mignolet Daniels
    Coleman Shaw Zabaleta Ward Walker
    Walcott Paulinho Nolan Ramsey Barkley
    RVP Sturridge Dzeko

Lack of Chelsea coverage is a worry imo, midfield a bit weak also, 2 from Arsenal. Paulinho not shown much with Spurs yet but it is early doors. Good strikefore but will Dzeko hold on to his place? Barkely gone up to 4.9 with alot of players transferring him in, will he be a flash in the pan but should be guaranteed a place if Fellani goes to UTD.

Thanks for the reply, this is my team with Aguero. I've Barkley already in my team.

    Mignolet Daniels
    Coleman Shaw Walker Ward Zabaleta
    Walcott Paulinho Silva Barkley Sinclair
    Aguero Sturridge Lambert

    Or

    Mignolet Daniels
    Coleman Shaw Ward Zabaleta Toure
    Walcott Paulinho Michu Barkley Sinclair
    Aguero Sturridge Benteke

Toure is injured but has been in my team from the start, was going to spend an extra million for Walker which would give about 7.7m for a striker in Team A.

Getting Michu in for Silva gives me an extra 0.3m and keeping Toure gives me money for a 9.3m striker so Benteke is on fire but Lambert is also playing great.

You could improve your defense ya. A lot of bonus points are being given to central defenders who keep a clean sheet.
RVP really limits what you can do with your team imo. But that's just my opinion and there are plenty of FF players who will play RVP
I won't tell anyone to sell him though. Very much a personal choice

What you think of this bad boy will take out larson next week havent decided for who yet haha. Have 3.3 in the bank

Downgrade Jaaskalainen to Boruc(4.5m) or a 4m keeper without rotation.
With that 1m + your 3.3m you can upgrade your midfield.
Since you're getting rid of Larsson, you could get Nolan for 7.1m, he is a good buy at the moment as West Ham have a few "easy" fixtures coming up.

I think Dawson is under severe pressure to keep his place at Spurs, even before they get Chiriches, Kaboul will be battling hard for that place alongside Verthongen, I wouldn't go there at the moment.

Could verthonghen get shifted to lb instead of rose. BAE seems to be out of favour.

This is spot on. Chelsea have an easy enough group this year and I think there players will be rotated for CL games. Utds group is harder than usual add in a trip to donetsk and a fairly easy run of league games and I feel the CL group stages will be prioritised more than usual. City have to get out of the group stages and a tough run of league games so who knows what will happen. Arsenal have a really tough group but currently dont have the players to rotate.

    Cheers Dude.
Nolan did cross my mind alright. I suppose Im trying to keep some money in reserve to get Van Persie in when he starts banging them in i.e. against crystal palace but having that kind of money in reserve while waiting for RVP to do something could be the death of me

don't understand the concept of team "coverage". sounds really stupid as it should be individual players' form that are the focus.

Did Shaw come off injured last week? He played 45 mins

Yep, he had a knock. I haven't seen any news on whether he'll be back for this weekend yet.

I wouldn't like to predict what will happen and how the Spurs team will line out in a few weeks time, it is believed that with Erikson, Lamela and Chiriches they have now finalised their incomings although Hulk is still on the radar.
If it was me in charge I'd want Vert at CB, I don't know anything about Chiriches but I assume he's come to Spurs to play, Dawson is under threat and to be honest Kaboul could quite easily make that place his own as well, he wasn't available when Dawson took over from Caulker last year.
As for left back Rose is playing brilliantly but he's a fantasy midfielder, BAE's form was dreadful last year when he came back but the year before(I'm biased obviously so let me say this) he was among the best full backs in the league, I can see him coming into form and holding down that place. If their is any sign of that happening he'll be a steal at 5.3m.
The upshot is that at the moment the only Spurs players with immediate guarantee of regular game time are Lloris, Walker, Vert, Paulinho, Soldado and Lamela once he's settled in.
Dawson is the name that keeps on coming up around here and I would just advise caution on him.

Wouldn't be too sure about deGea for the next 3 weeks. Liverpool and City still to play, very likely to concede against both teams. Could downgrade to a cheaper keeper to save more money which can be used to upgrade.

thanks for that im actually thinking of going with 3 spurs players when i wildcard dawson or vert ,paulinho and soldado. They have great fixtures and id imagine the fringe squad can be kept happy in the europa lge

Whats will all the Paulinho love, looks a fantastic player, but I was under the impression he was a more defensive/deep playing player, someone to partner sandro when fit to sit deep and help their defense as Spurs full backs are very attack minded?

I'm certainly open to correction, i just saw him as a deep player for Brazil when I've seen him

I was under the same impression as yourself and yes thats how he plays for Brazil. Im just going by MOTD where it looked like he was playing in an advanced position and I think I read somewhere he had 7 shots on goal. Ill be watching the full spurs game sunday so will base my decision on that.

Against Palace he was little more advanced...Just wonder with lamela coming in will that mean he'll drop back deeper?

@Swiper: I was just thinking about Spurs defensive options and Dawson was very much on my radar too. Now I don't expect you to predict the future but any chance that Dawson and Vert could be the Premier League cbs and Kaboul and Chirches could be used in the Europa?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,748 ✭✭✭Swiper the fox

I don't know enough about Chirches but I think Dawson is vulnerable, that's the size of it for me, he's solid but not much more than that, Kaboul is solid but more of a threat in the oppositions box, Chirches hasn't come to stay on the bench, and 9m is a lot of money to pay to a Romanian club, to be honest I haven't got a clue, saying that I thought Caulker would take his place back last year as well, Dawson is a warrior.

Ok well you can't say fairer than that. It's a toss up between Dawson and Cahill in the wildcard, although Walker could be an option too. Spurs look a lot more solid this year and have a nice run of fixtures. Sure we'll see...I just hope Lamela's a mid and isn't a fortune.

Don't know if your team has been set up for the weekend or not but just in case I'd definitely not be playing Chester away to city. He could easily end up with minus points. I'd start Ward-Prowse even though I don't think he'll start many more games in the future.

Osvaldo and Ramirez are surely too good to be on the bench much longer. The logical replacements are Ward-Prowse and Rodriguez out. Who knows but he's certainly not a guaranteed starter unless he continues to play for another 5/6 games at the expense of others in my eyes.

Looking at something like this post-wildcard. Moving from 3-4-3 to 4-3-3. Getting the right mix of value and points in midfield is going to be tough. Question marks over Ramsey at the moment.
