    BIG changes on this scheme:

The purchasing of both the Surface RT and Pro can now be completed by a valid student on the Microsoft store without going through the college.

The 32GB RT is costing €296.
The 64GB Surface Pro is €791.

I believe you can validate you student credentials through you college email this makes sense. So no more forms and rubbish like before.

Can someone test this and report back, this really is how it should have been first day.

Needless to say the Surface RT and Pro are wonderful products and with 8.1 on the way this should give them a lift.

This isn't the same as the original offer unless it includes the keyboard. It looks like the normal MS offer

This isn't the same thing. In this offer the surface rt is available for about €150.

That's a fair point the new discount is not a good I'd do not think it was ever as low as €150? What was the exact price euros under the old scheme for 32GB Surface RT with no type cover (the cheapest)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭andrewdeerpark

I purchased this last weeks and received it a few days ago. Am actually typing from it now. I got the 32GB with touch keyboard for €386.10 and just had to verify my student status by having a link sent to my student email and clicking through on that.

Good stuff so you saved around €50. Hope its going well for you.

It's not a new discount. These 2 options have both been available for as long as the other, the cheaper option being more difficult to actually retain.

The prices quoted in the article are excluding VAT, in the PDF they include VAT.

    €155 + VAT = €190.65.

Long shot here but is anybody here able to get these that would be willing and able to get one for a fellow boardsie. €250 for a 32GB surface with a touch cover is too good a deal to pass up.
But it's not €250 it is €296 without Touch cover with touch cover it is €386. Where are you getting those prices? look at the Microsoft Ireland store website.

Edit: sorry I have just looked at the PDF. It's strange though as the student offer on their site is quoting different prices.
On the microsoft site you just verify with a student email address, with the PDF it looks like you actually have to get your college to go for it and as stated previously a lot of colleges hadn't even heard of this when contacted and don't seem bothered or interested.

It's been established ages ago that you can order with a valid student email address on their student store site.. It's still a long way off the original offer.
Does nobody bother to read through threads?

Fair enough point on reading through threads......

Still wondering if anyone has actually got a Surface RT on the original scheme? I'm sure the next few weeks we will know.

I got 2 on the original scheme

That's excellent someone in Ireland confirming it does work. Was their much delay between ordering and delivery?

Slightly confusing but the original scheme was buying from the MS student store. As regards the OP I dont think any one has confirmed a purchase through that

I can confirm I have purchased two units through the OPs original link, using the Irish order form that was posted awhile ago. Took about a week.

The OPs original link was to a website story.
    What link did you use?

    I call bull****.

I emailed the form that was posted here earlier to the MS email address. Got a reply back saying that it cant be ordered by individuals. I also asked a contact I have in MS to see if they could do anything for me. She couldn't (but she did brag about how she got one for free!) .

There have been purchases through this method, but, unless you order through an educational institution, you will not get this deal. There is no wriggle room at all.

I'm yet to hear of any colleges doing it

Only educational institutions can avail of this offer. If a school or university agrees to purchase one on your behalf, then you can get one. Simple. No bs at all. Colleges are probably staying away from it as the potential number of orders and potential number of problems is too high.

Our local primary school is doing it - possibly only because I'm co-coordinating the info and the order process for them.

Not sure if it was noted previously, but the offer has been extended to the 30th Sept.

As fair as I'm aware none of the major universities are doing it. I'm a DIT student and despite asking my department are they doing it i haven't even got a reply.

Frustrating as this would have saved me the hassle of lugging my laptop in and out of town

From what I know, this offer has not been propagated to the colleges. If a college gets involved, its usually due to a staff member pushing their case rather than the institution advertising the offer.

also a DIT student, no reply either. How many people do you think we need for them to make it happen?

The SU have been quick to reply. Fair play

    They are working on it

Good work, maybe everyone should follow suit and tap up the SU's to get in on the act. From a Finance Dept point of view it may be easier to accomplish....
