Got one of these a month or two back, excellent piece of kit but the range is not the best. I was hoping it would be an improvement from the Eircom router I got in the house (new black one) but its actually worse. Anyone have the same problem ?

The ones I got were an improvement in range on what we previously had (Netgear WG602 and Cisco WAP200). But the real benefit was the management ease of use.

Meraki claim "up to 50% increased range compared to typical enterprise class 802.11n access points, meaning fewer access points are required for a given deployment."

This is the spec of the one I received FOC: http://meraki.cisco.com/products/wireless/mr12

and the PDF data sheet: http://meraki.cisco.com/lib/pdf/meraki_datasheet_MR12.pdf

I've since added an MR16 to ensure coverage for the whole office & warehouse, I can even pick up a workable signal from my parking spot 20m from the office.

i'm guessing you'll have to fulfil all of the requirements below to get one?:

IT professionals receive a FREE Cisco Meraki access point with a 3-year cloud management license, a £699 value.
While Cisco Meraki webinars are open to all audiences, to be eligible for a free access point, participants must:

Attend the live webinar in its entirety
    Enter a valid company name
    Be an IT professional

Register with a shipping address in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland or Poland. We cannot ship free APs outside of these regions, and cannot ship to post office boxes.
European countries require a valid VAT ID for shipment
Register with their organization's email address
Confirm eligibility and shipping address with a Cisco Meraki representative by phone
If you are unable to accept your AP due to restrictions, (e.g., Erate), we will be happy to provide you with a trial AP, which can be returned following your evaluation of our solution
As APs are provided as an educational tool to those new to the Cisco Meraki platform, individuals and organizations who have received a free access point through other promotions are not eligible. Limit one free AP per organization and per individual. Due to abuse, we cannot provide free access points to individuals who register with yahoo, gmail, hotmail, and other similar email addresses.

Yes, it comes with a 3yr license, for free.

the older meraki stuff could be sorted with stuff like :

    ap51 from http://download.berlin.freifunk.net/fonera/

    needs http://www.winpcap.org/install/default.htm

after it arrived in the post
