no, you can't replace the cable modem UPC provide at all. you CAN disable all the features and use it as a dumb modem and use a 2nd access point or router with it though, although this (as in the device being supplied by meraki) isn't really what you're looking for.

on my mobile at the minute, but if you look in the broadband forum for a thread about enabling bridge mode on upc you'll get all the info you need. I think it might even be stickied.

    still havent heard from them

I emailed Kellie Sinnott and she came back immediately to confirm VAT number and address.. probably the quickest way to get it.

I confirmed the details Wednesday, got shipping notice for the AP Saturday morning.

Have to agree mate.....I thought I would notice a BIG difference in streaming 720p video from my Ubuntu box to my Nexus 10 using MX Player and it seemed to stutter even more than with the bog standard Cisco UPC router!??

    Cheers,
    M

    Hey all,
Sorry to drag this thread up but I have a question. I have only recently started using the Meraki MR12 as I wanted to see if I could increase the coverage to my second bedroom and it has been fairly good so far. I'm using in conjunction with a bog standard Cisco EPC3925 from UPC. I basically now have two SSID's in my apartment with the Meraki one being the one I connect to in my second bedroom. The thing is because I have two separate SSID's I have two different IP address ranges (192.168.x.x for the Cisco and 10.x.x.x for the Meraki) and it's more difficult to stream stuff unless I keep switching WiFi networks. While not a huge pain is there a way I can create one unified network in terms of IP addresses so that when I want to stream from my Linux box which is wired to the Cisco EPC392 I won't have to change WiFi network?

    Thanks,
    M

    Hey MadMoe,

2 factors - first is the connection of the new Meraki. Best way is to string an ethernet cable to the physical place you want this base station to serve.

Second is the IP addressing. Give the Meraki an IP address on the same range as the cisco (e.g. if the cisco is 192.168.1.254 255.255.255.0 then give it 192.168.1.253) and let the cisco do all the dhcp for clients.

If a cable is not possible you may be into setting up a wifi bridge but this halves your wifi bandwidth and is tricky to setup.

    Hope this helps

    Hello mate,
Thanks for getting back so quickly! I have the Meraki wired into the Cisco using an Ethernet cable so all is good there. In terms of giving the Meraki an IP address in the same range as the Cisco is it possible to do this in the dashboard do you know (dashboard.meraki.com)? I have had a look around in here but am not sure where exactly to set this up? Will there still be two SSID's displayed (I would have thought so). It's just the finer points of this that are confusing to me.

    Thanks again,
    M

The unit itself is decent enough.....now if only I can get it configured correctly for what I want ;-)

I only recently configured this but it's not working correctly with a RADIUS configuration on our Work network so I've mailed the Cisco contact on it - I figure if they want the sale they'll give some support on how to get it working the way I want it to.
