I didnt even know what it was running tbh any game footage ive watched has just screamed COD with titans to me.

not being able to run a source game at 1080p60 near launch is kind of bad for a console no?

    Yeah according to the wiki:
Respawn chose to build Titanfall on the Source game engine due to their developers' familiarity and its ability to reach 60 frames per second on consoles.[15] The company built upon the engine during development in features such as lighting, rendering, visibility, networking, and tools pipelines.[16] The game also uses Microsoft's cloud computing for multiplayer servers, physics, and artificial intelligence.[12]

Wasnt the IW engine that cod used just a modified id tech engine anyway?

just found out about alternative to dropbox. Works exactly the same - you get a mobile or PC app, choose a folder, do selective sync etc etc etc... the difference is: you start off with whooping 15GB of space.
If you use referral link, both ref and you gets extra 5GB, pretty neat. After that just share it on FB or whatever... this thing is time limited, so my reasons of posting here are quite obvious - You get a starting point of 20GB instead of 15GB, I get my extra 5Gigs, everyone wins

anyway if any of you are interested in instant 20GB of cloud storage, here's the referral link. Enjoy!

p.s. as for speeds or reliability I am not sure... still testing. But everything else is exactly the same as dropbox.

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet or not but i just saw this on reddit and thought it was pretty insane!! http://www.sweclockers.com/image/red/2013/08/26/Redharbringer_0007_Layer+3.jpg?t=original&k=c329a166

I thought they were running titanfall on source because it runs well on ps3, development for this game started 3 yrs ago when zampella and west started respawn and next gen were not being considered. The source engine seemingly integrated well with the ps3 where as other engines had issues. Probably something to do with linux id say, the ps3 OS was linux if im not mistaken? Source also seems to have a lot of the multiplayer framework done in the devlopment kit, which reduced development cost respawm. Im on the fence about the game, looks ok but just a bit too like cod with jetpacks

PS3 runs a heavily modded version of FreeBSD which is linux-like, but you have to remember that it was very different architecture so it would have been customised for the needs at a low level.
PS4 runs a spin-off of FreeBSD again, probably closer to existing mainstream builds.

Valve have successfully ported most of their newer games to linux now - with results showing improvement in linux over Windows in some cases! Obviously depends on drivers etc., but it shows how the engine is capable of running well in that environment.

As in the cell chip in the PS3?
Hopefully this time around it wont take as long for developers to get to grips with the Sony architecture, really only saw the best of the PS3 in latter years in my opinion. Games like The Last of Us really do look fantastic and the Uncharteds as well, weather their gameplay was on par is debateable for me.Shame it seems that only in house Sony developers really got the very best out of it, id imagine most 3rd party devs didnt want to spend the money or time on a slighty better for every game they made for PS so thats the reason you only see it from the in housw studios.
To me it seemed like lowest common denominator won out hardware wise, as in develop for the Xbox as it was weaker specs wise then port to the PS. I own both consoles by the way so no fanboys here:)

Id imagine if their running an updated version of FreeBSD like you were saying it might help this time round, and also the switch to more PC like architecture.

The Xbox 360 has a better GPU and the embedded ram helped multi platform games perform a bit better on the Xbox. Sony exclusives are incredible though.

Cell is dead the PS4/Xbone are running pc architecture (x86). The reason for the difference was mostly down to how locked down the 3rd party dev kits from sony were in comparison to MS. that has now flipped for the most part

the likes of ND got full access to the console and as a result got much better performance from the console

    Lads/Ladies

    Question,

Parents are heading to America, asked them to pick me up and Intel Core i5-4670K and a Gigabyte Z87X-D3H Motherboard!

The price saving would only be 60ish quid compared to Amazon.co.uk, just want to know if there's any dangers or issues that come about from buying from America such as "import taxes", or if it's DOA, how would I deal with that?

Would I just be better off in this case ordering from Amazon?

    Thanks!

Yeah I knew they had abandoned the cell chip for next gen,was just wondering if that was what mono was reffering too. It seems like it was capable of a lot more than most games got out of it.
I had heard something like that, the likes of ND and other in house studios getting sony engineers and programmers to work with to really get every ounce of performance from the PS3.

You can see why they would simplify things for the next gen, especially if their looking to court the indie market. Small studios are not gonna have a massive budget for development.

Im sure that at some stage over the next few years ill own both new consoles, a combination of wanting to play exclusives and all my mates being stuck in the stone age and thinking consoles are as good as it gets, so hopefully Sony and Microsoft learn from mistakes of current gen. Mostly im thinking RROD and YLOD but also in terms of publishing on their consoles(make it easier for indies)and that they realise that downloaded games should be discounted not pay a premium for! Someone should send sony and microsoft a link to EA humblebundle, now thats value:)

Would there be an issue with RMA if the MB isn't bought here?

Started playing it myself earlier also. Wasn't expecting too much honestly i'm not a big fan of FPS but it surprised me a bit! Better than the COD stories anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Battlefield 3 is imo not a game thats supposed to be mainly single player though. The single player is full of set pieces and moments that are enjoyable but the game is out 2 years now,so its definitely gonna feel old and to be honest as a battlefield fan it also seems like the single player is a tutorial for multiplayer.

The multiplayer is the core of this game,to judge it on the single player would be harsh, especially as said its 2 years old(the multiplayer is updated the single player is not),as somebody that came from COD i have to say the learning curve is steep with Battlefield(any version),but once you master the controls from my experience most battlefield games have the same feel for the controls, the difference imo is how they balance they classes. Definitely give it another go,im sure loads of people on here would jump in a squad with you guys and give a rundown of how multiplayer works:)

Doom had a more fleshed out and deeper plot than the COD stories.

Well now this is really something. A very well designed Mechanical Keyboard in a collaboration with Jeff Atwood (Founder of Stack Overflow) and WASD keyboards.

Meh. There are plenty of mechanicals out there that are just as good for less.

USP is the cherry clears though. No idea of how good they are.
