Hey lads and lassies, My poor auld HTC One took its first decent tumble yesterday and frightened the life out of me. Thankfully only a tiny scratch on the side was the outcome.
But, its time to get a cover for it. Any suggestions on good covers and places to buy.

I'm looking towards the Otterbox but the OH has one for her S4 but its becomes a mighty beast of a phone when thats on it. Is it as bad for the One?

I have this one and I find it great. My phone has fallen a few times in the last week and it hasnt sustained any damage at all. Plus the case is not that big on the phone either so thats a plus. I tried out the ottercase for it but found it a bit too big for my liking.

I've the Otterbox. It'll protect your phone, I'll give it that. On the other hand it's a hideous bulky yoke that completely swallows your phone. Always used the one handed controls for the stock browser with the One X, can't do that with the Otterbox on the One.

Bought this case (genuine HTC) on ebay, 17euro delivered, came this morning, very very nice, hardly adds any size to the phone but is solid

    how are you finding it?
There's lot of reviews on their site stating that it scratches the back of it etc..could have been just a bad batch

I have it. I read reports and they said it scratched the phone - I didnt get any but I could see how it would. It's a VERY snug fit and a small piece of grit would definitely cause scratches. The reason i dont use it any longer is because after a couple of days it was creaking badly and driving me nuts. It does offer great protection however.

The fonem8 ones on Amazon are excellent. I have used them on loads of devices now and their quality shames much more expensive ones. The screen protector on mine is on it 2 months now and completely scratch free. The one on my Note 2 is on it 6 months and also perfect.

    Hi,
    Is this them?

    Cheers in advance,
    Patrick.

Yep, I keep saying it but I can't believe how decent they are for the money.

Pricey enough when you add in the shipping though. Ive recieved a lot bigger items from the UK for less than € 3.44

I'm finding it good. My phone has taken a few tumbles and theres not a mark on it.

Its a snug fit alright and I can imagine that if you were taking it on and off regularly dirt could get caught between it and the phone causing a scratch. However I put the cover on and have left it on since and I've no intention of taking it off anytime soon.

All in all I love it and it suits me well. The flip cases drive me nuts..

You get 5 of them, they are good quality. Very few of the cheap ones are much use. For a euro a pop delivered they are well worth it.

Where the parts meet at the top and bottom creak like mad on my one. I've gone back to the Casemate hard case for now.

    Hi.

I'm a GS3 owner, due an upgrade soon, and thinking of the One.

What are the main problems with the One, and are they easily fixed?

My S3 freezes quite a bit, a few times a day and it can take a minute or so before it comes to life again. First world problem, I know, but annoying still.

Any issues like that with the One?

Couple of things putting me off the One right now, can you convince me they're not really problems?

    1. I have my music and photos on the external sd card in the S3. I like that option and not having it is putting me off a bit.

    2. The camera. I know it's "ultra pixel", but how does it really compare, especially if you've used an S3 before?

    3. No removable battery. I have a spare for the S3, which I rarely need tbh. But I like that I can pull it out if I need to get over a major freeze.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi.

My S3 freezes quite a bit, a few times a day and it can take a minute or so before it comes to life again. First world problem, I know, but annoying still. My One has never frozen... since I got it in June(ish)

    1. I have my music and photos on the external sd card in the S3. I like that option and not having it is putting me off a bit. My 32GB are fine... I also have cloud storage such as dropbox if I ever need to add extra content

    2. The camera. I know it's "ultra pixel", but how does it really compare, especially if you've used an S3 before? In low light (indoors, inthe pub etc.) the One is far superior - my friends are amazed by the quality of the photos my phone takes & I often get asked to take a shot when their samsungs or iphones can't get the shot in low light conditions + zoe still amazes people. In general the phone will be beyond your needs, unless you want to print a 4 storey canvas to mount on the side of a building... when did you last do that with the galaxy?

    3. No removable battery. I have a spare for the S3, which I rarely need tbh. But I like that I can pull it out if I need to get over a major freeze. Like I said, i've never had a freeze, nor have I needed to remove the battery...

    Thanks in advance!

Is there a HTC equivalent to S Voice? I use S Voice for things like setting up reminders and appointments, and turning on Bluetooth. I find it more useful than Google Now for the type of things I need to do.

There's no HTC version. It's often seen as kinda bloaty and un-needed basically.

Google Now is getting a good few updates and is just as good as S-Voice and Siri for these things now, if not there's Google Keep.

I'm actually disappointed by the camera. I use a lot of my pics on desktops etc and all blow up pretty bad. I came from the iphone 5 and imo the camera on that is much superior for daylight shots. Low light the One wins hands down but most of my pics are taking in bright light etc.

My one took a relatively small tumble off a bed with an otterbox case on it and the microphone is broken :(
Back to Vodafone to see if they can repair it under warranty..

Tried a local repair shop first and they told me that they couldn't get parts for it!

Don't get me wrong..its still a fantastic phone overall and I'd still pick it ahead of the S4.
Better build quality on a par with the iphone and very impressed with the phone overall.
Give me the HTC one wiith Nokias pureview camera and I'd be in heaven :D

Having a serious battery drain since updating to the latest software version and sense 5 yesterday on my one x. Have had location services turned off for weeks as this was causing the same issue. This is still turned off but battery is now being killed by Google services and prey. Have uninstalled prey. Has anyone else had this and found a solution for Google services hogging all the battery life?

Cant disagree more, for me the camera on the One has been far better in daytime than Iphone 5 and my previous Nexus. Also better than the S4 which the guy beside me has.

I think its a case of modifying the settings somewhat as Iphone seems to come out of the bag with better colour saturation. but thats about it.

@listermint, I just got the HTC One today, and I'd be interested in settings to improve the camera.

    Cheers.

Can you set the refresh interval for blink feed to either a manual refresh or a long time interval? I'm keen enough on the idea of blink feed, but I'd say it must be a battery sucker of its refreshing a lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,238 ✭✭✭Kwekubo

Blinkfeed doesn't refresh very often for me at all, maybe three or four times a day. You can always do a manual refresh too.

Guys can yoy guide me through the basic set up of the phone so the battery isn't draining a lot? Got it last week but the battery isn't lasting the day so just want to make sure I have everything right before I bring it back.

Yeah, sent it back in to Three to get it repaired. It's the second phone I am having problems with. I am hoping it will be repaired under warranty, cos I unlocked the bootloader. I did manage to get the stock firmware back on before having problems. It has to be a hardware problem as I tried everything from different cables to hard resetting the phone. Mine didn't connect at all to any computer, so I couldn't transfer files etc. Gonna be at least 5 working days without my baby :(
