In the JV the company (joint vehicle) will be subject to US corporate tax.
Therefore you tax it, take the JV share and then discount.
For the license the money is paid by the US brewery to Redbarn.
Taxes will be paid in Ireland.
You could tax it first and then discount it you should get the same result

Does anyone have any models to group under the below headings (in terms of the strategic process), please.

    1. Analysis and Diagnosis (PEST?, Five Forces?, ?)
    2. Strategic Choice (Porters generic strategies, ?, ?)
    3. Strategy Implementation (Bal Scorecard?, ?, ?)
    4. feedback

I know Joe took a stab at doing one up, but it is not complete. . he left out the model for determining pricing strategy, and for assessing the effectiveness of a website... what else am I missing.... I am getting verrrry anxious about this subject...

Just reading about different companies, and trying to think about them in terms of strategy. Trying to apply the models to them.

    Reading about different economies.

This subject has to be 100% case study based and business-led thinking. See this website for some material

Also I did nt really feel there is a lot of strategy to theses cases think everything is just about will we go international or not and how and financials too it.

What do u mean in terms of strategy ??

The whole course is 100% about strategy and the strategic process.... if you were to put the course on one page, the strategic process model would summarise it.

No, I am not going to read them all, not a high hope in hell. But I certainly feel they are useful in terms of seeing the concepts live and in action, as are the case studies given.

Ok now I'm freaking a bit and feel like I ve missed the whole point of the subject.... Are u using a lot of core notes for elective ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

I think I possibly have been doing all the strategy stuff so long I'm not seeing the bigger picture anymore

No, just the elective stuff at the moment.

To be clear, what I am saying is that I feel the strategic process summarises this course well. The strategic process involves:
    1. Assessing the company, it's competences, it's objectives
    2. Assessing the environment, macro, micro, financial, cultural
    3. Assessing opportunities for strategic fit
    4. Assessing performance and evaluation
    5. Assessing resource allocation decisions

Is that not a fair helicopter view of the course?

    Ya defo

I haven't really been trying to fit them into that framework to be honest but yes everything I ve covered would apply to that

This would be my 'night before' thinking of what the course is about. As I said, a helicopter view.

We are getting so close now

Do you know the page that I am on about from Joe? It was in the first session. It is a list of the strategic frameworks. Would you add anything to add to that that we need to tab in the book? He has definitely left some out. As I said in my previous post, he left out the framework for pricing decisions.

Specifically, in the MOCK review, the correctors said:

"Students would need to be more aware of the resources in the Green
manual which are there to assist them in answering questions, not so
much in terms of listing points but more in terms of identifying an
    approach to particular areas"

They are putting emphasis on approach, and following the green book approach explicitly. I think it is critical that we have all the models and frameworks tabbed.

I know I can't believe it came around so fast !! ya do u mean the list that starts off with the Pest model the ohmae/ porter ...

Ya I did nt really add anything to that other than perf measures, pricing and potential mkt exit strategies. But my plan is to go through a chapter a night from the book and writing what kinda things like that are in each one as a refresher.

How many tabs have you on the book?

I am useless with this thing. I have nearly tabbed everything :pac:
Let me know what are the critical things to tab. From reading your posts, I think you will be fine, You have put in a lot of legwork. Stay confident.

Ha ha I m a serial tabber .. I just counted and I have 97 tabs on my book lol... Clearly a pointless excercise...

But I ve divided a notes folder into the following

    1.NPV / Intestment decisions
    2.Financing/impact on KPI
    3.Pest/CSR
    4.Bal Scorecard / KPI / Transfer pricing
    5. Market entry
    6.Marketing- Pricing
    7.Org structure/FDI/Treasury/SSC sub control etc
    8. Country info

Have my man account & finance folders then for detail on anything else

    http://www.fxcentre.com/default.asp

That's a good website to keep you up to date and they have monthly articles on exchange rates, irish property market etc.

I would just keep in mind the irish banking sector no backup plan when ulster banks services failed etc

Ryanair being forced to reduce its stake in aer lingus

Property prices recovering slightly but place no reliance on historic valuations

The banks are currently doing deals over debt i.e. reductions, refinancing, writing off portions and restructuring residual amounts.

We have the ongoing situation in Syria, how does that effect confidence in the markets etc? Exchange rates!

Just be opened minded, I would have a table of current exchange rates in the exam so if they give you one you are able to say its realistic, unrealistic etc.

You have the whole Government previously offering tax incentives to multi national companies such as google and apple!

If I think of anything else ill put it up.
