Right I have completely neglected APM until now, I've done most of the class questions. I plan on doing the 2010 & 2011 past papers this weekend.

Can't anyone suggest good NPV questions to practice and also the best way to revise from now on.

Can only give APM 4 evenings next week as I have CORE also but plan on full Saturday and Sunday this weekend and then Saturday next week plus the evenings

I actually think the core gets u a long way for the elective. Good NPV questions bison tears mock 12 as has blocked funds

Dmac, you have studied this more than any of us; taking the helicopter view, would you mind advising the guy caught for time.

Put to the pin of your collar, crisis situation, ranking things 1-5... broadly, what is critical; what is desirable; what is ideal

For example, in core I'd advise someone to def do Primus Pet Foods, and IAS 10, 12, 18, 33, 37 before they do anything else, like say IAS 41.

    What you think?

Ha ha I wish I had....

Well from what I have done I feel impact of sources of finance on KPI could be one for this year or A balanced scorecard has potential too wont be both. NPV with blocked funds potentially plus a little bit of transfer pricing. Pest was nt on last year so some element will be this year.

Overall tho there actually is nt too much too it. 9 indicator across the 3 cases prob 4 3 2 . So really there is only about that many topic s to the elective just depends on the angle u take from them.

I think one of the biggest things is watching out for currency s when adding together and costs etc.. This is where I keep slipping up so pay attention to that.

    Question

Done mixture plc 2011 mock with blocked funds and they held the interest until blocked funds release but in 2012 mock paper bison the interest was release yr on yr. does anyone know which is right or why they are different

How annoying that I did both of those questions and didn't pick up on this! Re-read both questions there beside each other, there definitely isn't anything to indicate that the interest could be released year on year!

If this came up I would probably assume they hold the interest in the country but only for the reason that it generates more interest again than taking the interest out year on year...if that makes sense... I'm sooooo tired!!!!

Ya I did nt notice first time either ... Just trying to look at all NPV today . Done all finance questions yesterday gonna try go through each area like that .

I would of assumed the other way as they only said 5000 blocked so why would interest be more I do them more I realise u have to write down ur assumptions . I think I will clearly state what I have assumed just in case...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

yeah but if the blocked funds are held on deposit it would just be like a normal account, if u don't take out the interest you would get more interest year on year (2011 mock).. dunno... they would probably accept both since the question doesn't clarify

Yeah I always forget about assumptions and really silly things...like writing £'000 in NPV lol, so used to doing it the lazy way

    How's the cases going now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Ya forgetting to state the obvious - coz it seem obvious ha ha !!

I think they would have to accept both really. like to get competent it states fairly accurate calc. Usually it's the approach but given the comments on mock paper I think it's the calc too in this exam. How are u getting on now what ur plan for time left

Cases are slow really closer its gets less I seem to be getting through in a day. But hopefully should be fine by exam if its and okish paper..

Ppl on the main thread talking about missing studying and signing up for tax!! Are they crazy .... I defo won't miss studying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

Yeah I saw that lol not a mission! Some chance of me doing tax exams lol

Same with cases, got on well yesterday and got loads of practice cases done, but today I was just wrecked and demotivated, so I'm pretending to be productive by organising my files again lol

Think the rest of the time I have I'm going to spend just on past papers, going to try and do them under exam conditions now (which will be hard since I get bored after like 10 minutes lol) what u thinking? Jus going to stay calm from now on... if I haven't done enough it's too late to worry about it now like, fingers and toes crossed all the way!

My plan is to go through questions in the book and then go back and test myself on cases. Spend a day then somewhere organising folder/ case indexing and reading the country cases at the back of the book.

Actually is there any core cases that u think I should have that are good for elective ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

Not off the top of my head but I'm going through cases tonight to tab any useful templates - if I see something that would be useful I'll let you know sure!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

That would be great thanks... Ya no the way u feel u could be missing something I hate that feeling ...

What's the terminal value formulae ?

I know the terminal value with growth & I know when for a certain number of year but what about when it's just indefinate ??

Do we have a question that does that ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Figured it out just divide by dcf 20%

    Champ q in book

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

afternoon all... hope we're all as moderately productive as I am lol

was goin to say Pitem but it's for the certain number of years. if it's constant cash flows u just divide the terminal value by the discount factor... i'm assuming you're doing pitem so for snacker if the cash flows were constant it would just be 4,200/0.10 = £42m

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

ah yes u got it lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Ya just learnt that if they say nominal cash u have to grow all revenue by the inflation rate. just said I'd pass on the knowledge although everyone prob already know s that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

actually didnt know that lol only way I knew was if the inflation rate was there at all lol!

how u getting on today? did a few core practice cases (really i just read most of the answers), goin to have an attempt at an apm past paper... maybe after a really strong coffee lol

I have a little maltease pup who was sick all night and had to bring her to the vet and they have her on drip so was a very unproductive study day as worried sick about her ;(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

aww no!! massive doggy lover here, same happened with my dog when he was a pup, such a horrible feeling its unreal! really hope she gets better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Hope so she s like my baby ha ;(

    On the terminal cash thing

When it is like years 4-10 n the book it took the dcf year 10 -dcf year 3 and used that as annuity. Pg 34 green book.

But in trident 5-10 they just used the 7 year annuity and then multiplied by dcf of year 5 also.

Which is correct or are both ?

think the book is right.. the PV of the annuity is already taking the discount factor into account, so don't think it should be discounted again

don't understand where the book got an annuity of 2.587 for a df of 16% though but sure...
