    Quick question -

Can someone look at mixture plc and bison ...

Why in mixture is the interest on the blocked fund remitted home and also used to calculate next years interest and released in final year and it bison the interest is just remitted home ?? It's driving me crazy ... Any ideas people .. Becoz I really think this will be on it .

I noticed this too? Anyone know why they were treated differently?

Also, the questions we got in session 5, idenda and X consultancy. Do ppl have the solutions to these?

The senario in mixture plc splits the amounts able to be sent back and anything above this figure is deposited to earn interest so then can be remitted at the end of the period

But in misture it is also added to total to be sent home each year

Hope not! The calculations are supposed to be simple cause we've already passed the technical side of it in cap 2

how is it going for you? just cannot wait for thursday evening to come and this week to be over!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

I m not sure one min I m thinking it be fine next I'm thinking I'm screwed and not sure how much I really know. I done last years paper today and it seems ok but I was nt writing comment s anywhere as good as solution !!

How are u feeling ( do u have core too or just elective ?? )

How have u been approaching it ?? I just done cases and read the book. Re doing cases which is kinda a waste as I m just remembering them. !!

Did u sit this elective before or change over like me ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 passwo

i changed over aswell. so hopefully it will be worth it.
i have all the cases done aswell, same topics come up all the time. fingers crossed :)

you know the blocked funds we were discussing the other evening.. i find it confusing. is it just me or did they approach the calcs differently in all three solutions that we have?? Mixture and bison - one calculated interest on the remitted amount plus interest, and the other on just the remitted amount. then in plustherma the interest seems to be calculated on the cashflow less remit amount figure...

hope someone can follow that train of thought!

Have u done anything other than the cases ?? Have u gone through any core ones... Ya I seen that there different alright..

Plush is different in that it saying that u can remit a certain amount the other s block a certain amount

But mixture appears wrong to me. My plan is to state what I have assumed. Eg. I have assumed that as blocked funds are x that any interest earned can be remitted home or else that I will hold interest in the country and remit at end. Once u say it they can t mark it wrong

oh ok. i get you i think. thanks! i must have a look at them again tomorrow.. it hasnt come up on any actual paper... just mock

i didnt do any core ones.. did you?

you know that same q plush - in the NPV calcs, they get the 25M Working cap figure back at the end... does it say somewhere in the q to add this back??
also, you know the extra 5% tax to be paid (Plush's 20% less Brazils 15%) is that always the case if there is a diff in the tax rates? i dont think i have seen that in any other example...maybe i didnt spot it

Have you done any core stuff? Any you think would be useful I keep thinking there's gonna be something I have missed and when I read the paper I'm just gonna freak and mess it up!

In plush they specifically talked about a double tax thing. They done it in one in the book too think 1.5 off hand !!

I would only do it if they mentioned it like that .

No did nt do any core but I'm afraid I'm missing out becoz I have nt... Like the cost benefit that they had last year was horrific !! If I got something like that I d cry 3 rd time trying it and still messed it up..

I think with the 25 working cap - it will be required for the duration of the project ( I presume they meant that as only the duration. But when I did it I never put it in either

That's how I feel too ;( I'm not feeling great about it. I feel like I'm just sitting starring at the books and that if its not something similar to past case I'm screwed ;(

Do you think the indicators that come up in the core will have a bearing on wot will come up in elective?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

I hope not but company valuations were in the mock and there on the core not elective... Net asset per share Kinda thing I know it was basic but still

See I'm worried bout that cause they keep saying the green book will help you answer everything but stuff like WACC and CAPM are technically able to be asked and not in the green book so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Well they specifically said be fully conversant on core... But you don't need anything core for stuff that has come up in passed paper so I think we should be ok. I would be so angry to fail on something core that I would of known last year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

I'm hoping that becoz the pass rate dropped so much last year that they ll try maintain or improve it rather than trying to make it harder. I think 3 number NPV calc.. Impact of financing on KPI s and maybe a scorecard ... Ha nice paper lol !!

Do u know everything in green book or just know where they are ??

Have been working through the green book and have tabbed the life out if it hoping that some if it has stuck but calculations are ok it's the analysis I never seem to be able to get all the points they have in the answer so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Ya I'm the same do all the numbers then I have bullet points almost and they have 4 pages... I can never come up with the analysis they do.

I feel so wrecked today can't concentrate at all. Wish it was just on tomorrow

What's ur plan for next 2 days ??
Have u done much in terms of knowin about countries and stuff ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭pepp

I'm really just reading things over again I've done all the questions and no point doing them again cause just remembering the answers wot bout you?

I haven't done any extra research just the green book and the case details for countries

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

I have the premier adhesive case to do today as only found that. And plan on reading over a few chapters in the book not exactly sure what else to do

I think there was a reason they did nt put that case up anywhere it's rubbish !!

In plushtherma question asks to discuss the merits and drawback of joint venture and FDI...

The answer approaches it using choosing a mode of entry but in nearly all other questions its just discussing both adv and disadvantage not using that model. Which are people using ??
