Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Good luck with choosing, anything I might be interested in specialising in later on needs biology so I didn't have any problems with choice

Same! :) I hear it's the most popular combination, suppose it gives the most choice when you're picking your degree later :)

Yeah, I'm leaning towards biology just because it'll keep so many more doors open for me, whereas with physics I'm really pigeon-holing myself unnecessary since I'll probably be doing something chemistry related in third year anyone (or possibly neuroscience and I'll need bio modules for that!).

True that, physics options are really a lot more limited (also I promised myself about halfway through the exam paper in June that I would never study the subject again so maybe I'm biased XD) Ah, tis neuroscience I'm leaning towards, or genetics, or chemistry... or maybe immunology... Yeah, pretty clear why I'm doing common entry science :P

you're kidding me.. do we qualify for free fees scheme though or something ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,988 ✭✭✭Monsieur Folie

Yeah if ye're Irish I'm nearly certain you only pay the €2,500 (or whatever it is) student contribution (and further still, if you qualify for a SUSI grant they usually cover that for you).

You'll get a "Pre-registration" tab/option soon. When you complete that, your finance statement will reflect the free fees or grant status.

Also 1st years are generally not expected to pay fees until closer to registration. You'll get a message in your intray soon.

Guys do we have to hand in that printable form about option modules before freshers week? For people doing BESS it says to have it in by the 13th?

There's a few people on boards and facebook, including me, that I found that are going into CS this year. Does anyone think it would be a good idea to start a facebook group for Trinity CS students? =)

The provost email lets you access your my.tcd.ie account, but we'll be getting emails in early September inviting us to properly register for college!

Heya, I just have a question on the Free Fees Initiative.
Is this totally separate from getting a grant? All the eligibility guidelines are very broad and include a majority of students, so is it guaranteed that everyone can avail of it?

So yeah, if anyone would care to explain what's going on and how I can sign up, that'd be deadly! There's a form on the Treasurer's page but it seems to be dated 2011..

The cost of the course is made up of the tuition fee & student contribution.
If you're an Irish/EU Citizen & Resident then your tuition fee will be waived automatically when you register so no need to do anything.
If you have applied for and received a grant, SUSI will pay the student contribution (€2750 this year), otherwise you pay this yourself.

On top of this, TCD students pay €10 USI Levy which funds the USI, & around €75 for the Sports facilities. These aren't covered by the grant so either way the student pays these.
