I believe that the evidence used to convict Joseph O'Reilly was shabby.

Its not unreasonable to assume that he should have been acquitted as the evidence fails to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he murdered his wife.

I understand that doesn't constitute an unsolved mystery but it is one where the wrong conclusion may have been drawn.

In January 2006 in New York, the patient of a well-known psychiatrist draws the face of a man that has been repeatedly appearing in her dreams. In more than one occasion that man has given her advice on her private life. The woman swears she has never met the man in her life.

That portrait lies forgotten on the psychiatrist’s desk for a few days until one day another patient recognizes that face and says that the man has often visited him in his dreams. He also claims he has never seen that man in his waking life.

The psychiatrist decides to send the portrait to some of his colleagues that have patients with recurrent dreams. Within a few months, four patients recognize the man as a frequent presence in their own dreams. All the patients refer to him as THIS MAN.

From January 2006 until today, at least 2000 people have claimed they have seen this man in their dreams, in many cities all over the world: Los Angeles, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Tehran, Beijing, Rome, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris, New Delhi, Moscow etc.

At the moment there is no ascertained relation or common trait among the people that have dreamed of seeing this man. Moreover, no living man has ever been recognized as resembling the man of the portrait by the people who have seen this man in their dreams.

Ever see this man in your dreams?

    Mmm, Google.
Some people began investigating the origin of Thisman.org and identified Italian sociologist and marketing strategist Andrea Natella as the creator of the website. It was also revealed that Natella runs an advertising agency called Guerilla Marketing, which designs subversive hoaxes and creates weird art projects exploring pornography, politics, and advertising.

The site was briefly acquired by horror movie production company Ghost House Pictures, in promotion for an upcoming film titled This Man, written and directed by American filmmaker Bryan Bertino.

Some incredible guerilla marketing right there!

This was on the Discovery channel the last day,

One of the guys was fishing on the back of the boat and either slipped or caught a big fish/shark and got pulled into the water, he wasn't a good swimmer so his brother (a good swimmer) jumped in to save him, meanwhile the Helmsman turned the boat around to pick them up, (from the GPS the boat made a sudden turn) and more than likely the sail swung around and knocked him into the water aswell, then the three men floated in the water and watched the boat sail away. horrible way to go

That's a theory and what the coroner reported but for some people it doesn't fit.

They guy they say was hit with a sail was a sailor for 30 years, it would be like forgetting your car has a door.

Was casually flicking through missing persons reports (as you do), when I came across this, really bizarre I think http://www.missingpersons.ie/missing/view-missing-person.html?mp=37. Really surprised too that I haven't heard of it before!

Another person went missing without a trace a year before that in the same town. Very strange.

Nuts. Do they reckon they're linked?

Not too much online about it but I would say that there must be a link because of the nature of the disappearances. No passports taken, homes were left normally and only the cars were taken in both cases and neither car has been found either.

The cars not being found seems particularly odd

I understand that doesn't constitute an unsolved mystery but it is one where the wrong conclusion may have been drawn.

    1. He disappeared from work and got others to cover for him.
    2. He had a secret girlfriend.
    3. He sent E-mails to his sister saying how much he hated his wife.
    4. His mobile phone was traced at the time of the murder to and from his home back to his workplace.

Good enough for me and the jury.

That's very weird. And I note the Irish connection. One of the twins had been living with a partner and kids in Co. Cork before her twin (who was living in the USA) came visiting and they both went to the UK!

    More "WTF?" than unsolved mystery

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10254431/DNA-tests-cannot-distinguish-identical-twins-on-rape-charge.html
A pair of identical twins who cannot be told apart by their DNA have both appeared in court charged over the rape of a woman.

    Dyatlov Pass incident

    It took place in 1959.
In the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War.

The after effects of WWII were still being felt.
32,292 Polish people were repatriated from Russia that year, never mind what was going on in the gulags.
