Highest settings or Extreme Preset (Extreme Preset is 1600 x 900 max settings - apparently to prevent 1GB cards from running out of memory)?

Just went for that Humble deal. Are these deals a regular thing? First I've heard of this humble deal. Trying to redeem dead space 3 on origin but no luck. Have the others redeemed on steam.

Hey yes they are usually comprised of indie games though. Still great value as a lot of those indie games are better than big budget ones but this weeks humble bundle is especially good. I'm all over it :)

Pay at least $10 as well you scabby gits. I don't understand how the average is so low for a great games bundle for a great cause.

I'd say their servers are getting ridiculous traffic this evening. 400,000 purchases and only just over 5 hours in. Standing at almost $2 million at the moment, I think they could hit 10 million with this one. The THQ one got $5 million.

Indeed, some of the indie games over the time have been fantastic. A lot of games that I would never have bothered with if they hadn't shown up there. A few duds too, but mostly they try to keep the quality high.
I gave everything to the humble bundle tip this time as I wasn't mad on the charities, so it balances out as I usually give them just a small tip to hopefully cover the costs. The average is probably so low since you'll have people buying 100 $1 sets.

It's surprising that they're giving all the games completely away and not taking a cut at all for themselves. Someone was saying in one of the other threads that it's likely that they can write a bulk of it off against taxes so it's fantastic for their publicity. Humble bundle wouldn't be a registered charity so they couldn't claim back on that. Great publicity for humble bundle as well.

I'm surprised they are so open with the cost. You would expect that there would be a minimum charge. That's a hell of a lot of big budget games for less than €4. The costs of downloading them all is probably higher.

I usually do a 75-25 split on the money between charities-humble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Yeah, a few others in the weekly started introducing minimum charges - at least in the form that you wouldn't get the most/best parts of the bundle without a decent contribution. Not that I can complain about it as some of them have been very generous. I always give a good bit towards the DRM free ones as I feel that they're really being... humble.

The only problem with having so many bundles and publishers/developers hoping that I'll be buying the sequels is that I have so many games at this stage that I have more than enough to keep me occupied without getting more in some series.

Just went to their site to see what you get for less than $1 and it's just the sound tracks. I noticed that if you enter less than the average, they have a captcha. They must have a lot of problems with people harvesting keys for a minimum and morons trying to burden them with costs by putting in 1c orders.

Sorry guys ive another quicky. I have a Western Digital Caviar Black 1tb HDD which I bought for my first build roughly 2 years ago. It worked perfectly and it was the only drive I used in the pc. Last year I sold my pc but kept the HDD and its been sitting around since. It hasn't gotten any bangs or anything, but it has been moved around a bit. When I installed Windows 8 on my new build last month I wiped the drive and installed windows on an SSD. But the hard drive has been running really slow, for example steam has been installing upstairs for the past hour, even just clicking on the HDD under my computer takes time to load.
What's the problem? This isn't really my area so it might just be a really obvious thing. Im hoping there's a quick fix for this and I don't need a new one. Thanks in advance!

Try a different cable and make sure the right chipset drivers are installed.

Hmmm, There is heaven 4.0? and some new Valley benchmark? Well, time to download and give my old girl a wee bit of spin! :)

Valley is handy...quicker than Heaven but Heaven seems to sniff out a dodgy overclock sooner than Valley. i.e Valley passed at higher clocks than Heaven would using a 7950 I was messing about with lately.

Did one run on stock heaven 4.0. Updating drivers now and will go for second run.

Looks like Evga software for overclocking went tits up after updeate... I do increase stuff, but no performance increase at all in benchmarks. Looks fishy. Will throw afterburner in again as by the looks of it they started doing support for 680.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭Genghiz Cohen

Is AfterBurner the 'goto' overclocking tool?

I had it for monitoring usage and temps on my old card but the 670 came with some different one I haven't installed yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,924 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

    Okay, I don't get it.

    I set after burner to

    +87 voltage
    +300 core clock
    +650 memory clock
    (stable in Unigen)

And I donate. Any increases in heaven benchmark. Score just changes +/- 10 on each run.

Funny thing is in benchmark it self it says my core is 1200 and memory 3000, I'm afterburner core never goes above 1080 and memory 3000.

Are there some changes in software I don't know off?

Just ordered new case and RAM. Oh yes :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,924 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Okay, got got z back again. So clocks do change properly now. I think overclocking software had a brainfart. It said it oced, but it didn't. I can see now clock speeds going up properly.

Heaven benchmark results finally improved by almost 100 score on maxed out heaven on 1080p

Ram is Corsair 8GB Vengeance Pro Black

The computer is far from anything special. Slowly building it up, provided my summer employment gets extended. Should be getting a new CPU/MB combo by Christmas then after a new GFX card.

The Carbide Air 540 looks proper. Think dwighet bought one lately?

Battlefield 3 is a terrible game. Who thought that it would be a good idea to run a game from a browser?! Seriously!!!

I can't complain too much because of the offer on at the moment, but if I had been looking forward to this I'd be well pissed.

It took me at least an hour just to get my keybinds right! I didn't know WTF was going on with the browser thing. Anyway, I launch the single player to get my keybinds the way I want them I have to sit through un-skippable and unescapable cutscenes/starting credits (launched the task manager to shut it down the first time, second time turned off the monitor and went to do some tidying for a few minutes). The logos were too long as well. Spec ops which I got around to recently had 7 though, so it's not the worst.

I joined a server but it took me a while to figure out why I couldn't move more than a tiny bit. The chat keys were bound to the keys that I wanted for movement. I actually thought that it was a bugged server or that I hadn't done something in particular to start the game but the admins nuked me for not moving. :P
OK, this isn't the devs' fault, but what they could have done is thrown in a create server button or some bots just so as I could test the game out. Funnily enough, since there's no chat in single player, everything seemed fine. I don't want to be joining and hanging around like an arsehole getting my mouse sensitivity right on a public server! BF1942 had this functionality!
Just trying to find out now, can you even make a dedicated server? I can't seem to find any evidence that you can. If not, this is horrific! It would be handy just to have your own so that you can practice flying a bit and get used to the environments.

That browser thing has to be the tops for me in pure annoyance. I stopped playing UT3 because the menu was slow and buggy. I actually quite liked that game, but it pales in comparison to this.
