I haven't messed with my RAM yet. I am at 1.32vcore. Are you messing with any more of the other settings? My friend has scored 10.44 on Cinebench!!! On air too, 4.7ghz and 2400mhz RAM.

Have you move the unused cages out of the case yet? You could get away with the 2 drive cage in the front. Add the pwm 140 to the bottom intake. Add a replacement 140mm 3 pin to the side and add to the fan controller. Tidy the crap out of the cables. That should give you better temps. Maybe only a few degrees but an improvement all the same.

Yep, have already removed the 3+2 cage, left the floor (3 slot) cage. Cabling is fine (not the back though, I plan to fix this at the weekend) apart from the PSU unused cable bundling at the bottom. I will add an 1100/1300 to the side for sure. I would prefer having 1100/1300s at the top, but there's no point upgrading them now, won't make any appreciable difference.

    Thanks.

Edit: Oh, and adding some mx4 might help a tiny bit too.

If it can be changed i've tried it :P
I lie not everthing but deffo tried alot of setting but i've so much to learn yet about them.

    1.32 is good for 4.6.
Whats you uncore/cache ratio running at?
Most people are setting low to about x35 as it helps with the higher oc's.

What mobo did you get so i can have a look at the bios setting you have?

Z87x-D3H; uncore is at stock, 34x I think? Either that or 35x.

Service is great cant deny that

    Build quality wise:
Ipods/Iphones are no better or worse than any other companies
Laptops build wise fantastic but are terribly underpowered for the money they cost. Ive seen Lenovo Ultrabooks with the same specs as a MBP (non-retina) for half the money and lenovo's are built like tanks

Phones : In terms of Design and build Quality the only company matches Apple is HTC and they surpassed any iPhone with the HTC One.

Laptops : I agree sorta , I got my refurbish XPS for €650 a close equivalent MacBook would have cost at least double but..

The screen on my XPS is garbage and makes me feel sick after 1 hour of use, I have never seen a poor display on an Apple product ( Okay maybe the iPad mini :p)

While the build is good its bulky, Mac's are Sexy :p
Even with the extended battery it cant outlast a Macbook.
SSD's come standard (I think), the newest Air has a PCIe SSD.
Windows runs and benches better on MAC's.
The new Air last's runs for 13 hours (In OS X) !.

I cant agree with the price but Apple have gotten a lot right and are winning in the shrinking laptop market.

Set it to manual as some boards will clock it up 1:1 with your cpu multi when set to auto.

Very good guide here for Gigabyte boards and well worth a read.

Thanks. By the way, have you updated the BIOS? Because if I set manual voltage, it doesn't undervolt when idling/not under heavy load. It stays static at 1.32v. I need to set an offset to achieve this. Apparently a BIO update fixes it. (And also fixes the base clock 99.77mhx thingy and locks it as 100).

I have updated my bios but i'm using an MSI mobo :D

The c-states still have me baffled as they work fine when i use adaptive volts which lets my idle with low clocks and volts but i cant get sleep to work properly.

The base-clock thing was fixed on other chipsets by disabling spread spectrum but not sure about haswell ever having it.

My monitor issue with Dabs I was willing to let go as stuff like that happens to any company, but I put an order in for an Fx6300/7950 build two days ago, a few parts were awaiting stock which didn't bother me, logged in today to have a skim over the parts list and the order has disappeared - I wouldn't have a problem if it was cancelled, but it has literally just vanished into thin air like it never existed, and the order number is now invalid. I didn't even get an email or notification of any kind! I think it's time to lay Dabs to rest along with Komplett and just use HWV like everyone else.

Did they take money off you for them? that's real bad form.

I score 9.97 on Cinebench with multiple runs, temps never went above 83. I haven't touch me RAM, which I know can net a few points in that bench. My RAM isn't made for much overclocking, but I'll give it a shot :P

Unfortunately HTC are a bit crap if things go wrong. I'm on my second one in 2.5 months-and that's off for repair now. I like the phone, but its a bit of as headache dealing with their tech support. 12 calls, 43 emails & 3 screwed up UPS collections, its turning into a bit of a nightmare.

If the nexus 5 appears in the next 2-3 months, I'll try and get one & flog the HTC.

I got a Samsung series 9 a few months ago, great laptop-just as well made as a mac, but no sh!tty apple OS :D

No, to be fair, it wasn't paid for (wasn't supposed to be until a few of the items came into stock), but just the fact that it disappeared just really irritates me - like I said if I got an email saying it was cancelled for whatever reason that'd be grand but just like....deleting the order and not sending me any sort of notification/explanation is pretty crappy.

Some tweaking; upped memory to 1866mhz from 1600mhz (changed nothing else, it seems to be Cinebench stable at least), upped my uncore to 42 (it wasn't 34/35, it was 40/41 - I forget which already haha even though I just changed it - so the I'm not being bottlenecked there anymore for 4.6ghz) and ran the bench in high priority. Got 10.04 :P.

Just a note for some people, I have been benching with this friend, and (to do with the fact aht the game is largely CPU lategame) memory overclocking actually helps a lot with minimum framerates in Starcraft II! I will get numbers later, but I believe the number were something in the region of 15%. This was 1600 ---> 2400mhz AFAIK.

What ram do you have? You could most likely go higher with some more voltage and/or looser timings. High bandwidth > low timings anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

I'd say you could take it to 2133 at least, maybe 2400.

If it's doing 1866 with those timings and stock voltage that's a good sign for going much higher.

Do you think Prime is alright for checking memory stability?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Get memtest86. Beware though, instability with ram overclocks usually leads to a corrupt os. Make sure you have a good system restore point or create a memtest boot disk on a dvd or usb stick and test the ram outside of windows.

Will do. Something else to do for weekend if I want to do it right.

I was actually messing around and I primed blend test with 6000mb for a out 10 mins at 2000mhz and no crashes. Max temp 82 degrees. And I cinebenched 10.07 fine. Does this actually say anything for stability?

But it seems like there is slight risk involved, I will tackle this properly at the weekend and leave it for now.

    Thanks!

Looks ok but there's no telling if the odd error won't show up on longer tests. Proper instability is usually apparent pretty quickly though by a windows crash followed by a corrupt os forcing a system restore.

Looks like you have good ram though.

Thanks for that. I'm just trying to get the gist of it for now. Well, seemingly 2000mhz is stable at stock, which sounds great to me. (Of course, a proper stress test might well throw up errors, but the apparent stability of 2000mhz at stock is definitely encouraging).

Anyone know much about reporting a cheater using their steam profile?

Im curious to know are steam serious about cheaters and how they investigate them

Thats a good start so far.
Haswell ocing of ram might make your cpu oc unstable even if you pass memtest.I'd say try prime blend for a few hours at least as well.

They take it very seriously. Hacking in any game can lead to an entire steam account ban losing all games.

    Anyone experience using parcel motel?

If I get something shipped form the UK to the NI Parcel Motel to get free/cheaper shipping, how do i get the package down to Waterford?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,709 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Im actually in the middle of using parcel force.

My understanding is that you use their northern ireland address and then its shipped down to southern ireland

Yea you're right. Just found a Parcel Motel forum here! So they ship it to where ever you register regardless of if it arrives in their NI or ROI depot, so handy!

I'm ordering something for £4 off a UK site and they wanted £15 shipping to ROI which is daft! It's £2 to ship it to NI and €3.50 for parcel motel. Saves €12 in shipping or almost 70%!
