Correct Dempsey, but there are 3 other clubs sniffing around too,Hamburg,Southampton and some other Dutch club, possibly PSV Eindhoven,so I hope we get the deal done as soon as possible.

hamburg are broke as far as i know. i heard reports that in order to buy they need to sell, don't take my word the HSV fan that posts here occasionally may know better

Never knew that tbh, quite surprised they are in debt when you see the amount of revenue most German clubs get from TV deals.

I think Doyle would be good for Celtic if bought very cheaply and a contract that was suited the club and not a high wage, but not someone I'd want filing out for you in the Champions League.

It sounds to good to be true tbh

Bidding £4m without negotiating doesnt sound like Lawwell at all.

If the bid is accepted and we need him to do a medical to meet the monday registration deadline then he'll be allowed to withdraw from the international squad i imagine.

If we are signing 2 or more players then a deal(s) must be done tomorrow because only 1 wildcard is allowed to be registered before the game.

I'm pretty sure he can sign subject to a medical and all necessary paperwork could be filled in and dealt with for the champions league stuff and then he could just do his medical on Thursday when internationals are over.

I'm sure your own guys would liase with the Iceland staff for some sort of assurance, with him being in the squad you would assume he's alright anyway.

He's on £40 k a week at Wolves,I doubt if he'd get even half that sum with us.

Looks like Heerenveen are open to a transfer but I think his price might rise above what we would be willing to pay. His record suggests he would be a great signing for us if we can make it happen.
Heerenveen sporting director Gaston Sporre admits they will listen to offers for Finnbogason, but that it would have to be a big fee to sell him.

"He's good for at least 20 goals a season for us and we won't sell him for a reduced fee," said Sporre.

"If we get a concrete offer for him we will negotiate, but our aim is to keep him here at Heerenveen. He hasn't told us he is unhappy or asked for a transfer. We will wait and see."

Looks like Doyle is heading to Hull City.

Looks like Doyle is heading to Hull City.

Delighted, £3m fee and £20k wages for a 29 year old striker that scored 30 goals in his last 150 appearances is a complete waste of money when there is a better, younger player on the books.

I think Doyle would be an excellent signing for Celtic if they could get him cheap. He's never scored too many goals at Wolves but then again he often played as a lone striker and was used to hold the ball up for others, which he did very well. He scored goals at reading in the championship and premiership and has done very well for Ireland. anything less than 1m for him would be decent business and enhance the squad.

Everyone is well aware of what Doyle does but Celtic have Amido Balde to do that job in the team. Cant say that Doyle is an improvement on him and he's only just joined the club and going to get better. That, the fact he'll be rotated and celtic's wage structure means its a complete waste of money all things considered.

Sorry Stooge but Dempsey is correct, what's the point in forking out all that cash when Balde,Watt and Atajic are there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭stooge

Fair points lads but Doyle has played at a higher level than those three and is more experienced. Balde and Atajic still have a lot to prove but do have time on their side. Watt is young too but is a completely different player than Doyle. You know exactly what you're getting with Doyle and even thopugh he is 29 I still think he has at least 3-4 good years in him. His wages are a problem and probably the only reason a deal has not been done at this stage.

I'll admit that Doyle is a grafter,a good one at that, and it must have been frustrating for him to be playing up front on his own at Wolves but although he has tons of experience I just don't think he'd fit in at CP,oddly enough I was all for him joining us a few months ago but on second thoughts I think not.

What's the relevance of it being after the Faroe Islands game? He wasn't even in the squad so why mention it...?

But I thought this was put to bed weeks ago when it happened

If that's true then we won't be signing him

I'm still hopeful of a deal being done, never say never.

I'm a wee bit perturbed by this article from CelticQuickNews though,to me it's as though we are struggling with our finances,I know bills need paid but surely in God's name we can get bye with a few signings.

Agreed, if £4.8m has been turned down, we won't be in the running for him!

Jimi Hendrix is more my type bud.
As for Lazio then I'd be gutted, they still use racism to antagonise coloured players, even some of their own guys get abuse thrown at them

It's an interesting piece and I think it's pretty obvious at this stage that we are working under a pretty tight budget for signing players. I can't see us signing anyone on more than 20k a week and that makes it hard to find players to improve our first team. The transfer fee is probably more flexible but I really can't see us going over £4m for a player.

I'm sure players like Ledley & Samaras are watching closely the players we sign and the money we are paying them.

I am getting a little worried at this stage that we might be missing out on our top targets and struggling to find decent players, we still need a LB, a CB that can come straight into the first team, a striker to come into the first team minimum before the window shuts. I'd think we also need a central midfielder as I worry Kayal is going to cost us.

That's a lot of business left to be done.

That's it in a nutshell,if players think that Celtic are tight with finances then there's no chance they will join us,a case being Defoe from Spurs up for sale at £6 million, wayyyy too much for a guy who's 30 years old, good player that he is.
At the same time we need to take a chance once in a while because big Alf would add another 5k onto the attendance,I'm sure of it.

I'm certain Lenny said this was a no go yesterday.

Marco Capuano’s agent has told the Celtic Journal that his client would be “proud to wear the shirt of Celtic”.

Talking today about his client, Ulisse Savani confirmed that while there had been no official contact from Celtic about the player, Capuano would be “very happy” if the opportunity arose to play for Celtic.

This comes after speculation that Celtic had joined a number of other clubs in the hunt for Capuano after homesick Kelvin Wilson left Celtic to return to Nottingham Forrest. Reports in Italy had even suggested that Celtic had made not one but two offers for the Italian centre back that had been turned down by recently relegated Pescara. Savani did admit that a number of “European and Italian clubs” had spoken to him about Capuano and while Celtic was not one of those sides, if the bhoys came calling for the stopper, it would be an offer that would be hard to turn down.

The Italian agent also made it clear that he did not want to appear to be fuelling speculation about the player and that both he and his client wanted to remain respectful to his current club.

While this has destroyed the speculation that Celtic have had offers turned down for the player, it has certainly confirmed that if Celtic want the player, there is a very good chance the move could happen.
