Sooooo.....just watched 'screwed'..... think ive had a change of heart lol!!!

Lol, there's a documentary on the Maze, with Liam Neeson narrating, that is quite the eye opener lol, it's not the same as it was now, but that is one prison I really would've liked to avoid

Some wee person sitting somewhere within the service MUST know of numbers needed even roughly! Would just be nice to know as guidance and simply because I'm impatient lol. If I hear nothing in the next few weeks I might give them a call and ask again. And then I'm away on hol for a while so knowing my luck ill get something in the post when away! Would be typical lol

They are looking or 180 this time and approx 1200 applied, but remember last year they brought in more than what they decided too. So if your merit is 200 or below, your in with a good chance :-)

No I'm just fed up waiting you'd think they'd speed this process up a bit I'm turning down other opportunities cause I'm waiting on this

    I was gonna wait too.
But decided any job is better than none.
I can always give up my new job if the prison service come knocking....

Think CityGirl88 is a prison officer, she got in the last campaign I just seen her earlier posts when I was browsing this thread, a friend of mine told me the same thing yesterday when we were out last night, he heard 180 or so, he said the same thing, if your merit is below 200 you should be fine, just a waiting game as such, he said maghaberry where he is stationed is the main establishment that needs numbers

I know that feeling! Counting the days when I can hand in my notice!

By the time the NIPS get things rolling, the PSNI will be near starting their campaign.
And I've done that twice now so very hopeful about it. That's what I really want to do...

Never applied for the PSNI myself but thats what I want to do myself ultimately, went through the whole process with Lothian in scotland and even got offered a position but since then have had to defer it, but saying that getting into this would be awesome, nothing is guaranteed especially with the economy the way it is, so finding a job you enjoy doing and the security of the job as well as pension etc is a rare commodity these days

Btw a relative of mine who recently retired from the prison service, and who was a former police officer, and is now a trainer for the NIPS lol, said that a lot of recruits got in the last recruitment have the same mentality as I do, see it as a natural stepping stone towards the police, I dont know if it would be a good thing or bad lol? I heard of a lot of prison officers who joined the then RUC and have excelled through the police, and even vice versa, when they did away with the full time RUC reserve with patten, a good lot went into the prison service as around that time there was a recruitment, granted it was probably a handful compared to what they've just done, but just wondering yes it would look decent if you had that sorta experience, my fear would be if like a couple hundred prison officers applied that it would look naf lol cus so many would apply, also i was told, from a close source that there would actually be more chances of career development in the prison service than the police, because of the numbers the prison service had lost, there is spaces, but the police, there is no chance, you would be talking in excess of 7 years before you could do a sergeant exam because there is that many sergeants, just thinking out loud and probably talking crap, but I've been mulling things over in my head the past few days lol

When's anyone gonna call up again to find out how far along the NIPS recruitment is going?

Highbury did ur mate reckon 180 in total for both positions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,161 ✭✭✭HighburyLad

He did yeah, he said the same thing as Citygirl88 anyone with a merit 200 or below can be assured they'll get in providing vetting and medicals go right, he said 180 but 187 or 197 could get in, his words, but he said they still need more prison officers, especially in Maghaberry, he said to me that's the word he heard from superiors 180 so whether or not that's what's to happen who knows, I don't know when would be a good time to contact them to see what the craic is

Hey guys, yeah I went in last year and was speaking to the governor of the college last week and he said 180 they are expecting to bring in this time round. But it will all be maghaberry positions as far as I'm aware because there are waiting lists for hydebank and Magilligan from ppl who have been there a while so I doubt they will put new recruits straight there! That's all from me, good luck!

I got a reply from the recruitment office today in email. Been waiting over a week for it. They said they are working down to merit number 250 and that they haven't taken anybody of yet. The recruitment is staying open until July 2014 so they will work down the list until then.
