its completely messed up, like the merit number i was given over the phone is pretty high, as in a low merit place, which is awesome, but because the only role i applied for is the custody officer role, i have to wait until that role comes up, so there is going to be definitely people who are lower down the list than me in terms of merit who probably have forms to fill in for vetting and medicals, its not exactly well thought out this process, but if it means i have to wait then so be it, to get the role i want, but saying that the psni is coming up very soon, and i have no doubt there will be people in my position who will apply hoping for that, as well as current serving prison officers who will apply for the police when it arrives, of that im sure of

I ticked both but would prefer CO rather than PCO. Let me know what they say when u call up ted

My uncle was a PO there and took the retirement package, and is doing the training down at millisle sorta part time, just off the phone to him, he just said they usually do everything so awkward and backwards lol, and told me to hang in there, apparently they need PCO's real bad so hes not surprised

My partner does training down there too but in a specialised field can't say too much on this hopefully one day we will all be working together lol

Haha if and when we all get in at least we will all know what we all went through together! I'm taking hope from the fact if u look thru this thread to last year everyone has same questions and concerns as us!

But they didn't have the added worry of PCO positions lol

Well from the sounds of my conversation with recruitment they are only looking at pco positions at the moment in merit order. CPo posts will be done once this is completed. I got a low merit number so was told they would definitely be in touch.

But in the meantime............. More waiting!

The merit numbers I've heard seriously aren't that bad at all, I knew there must have been a reason and we couldn't have all done rubbish lol. Hope to god we aren't waiting long

Reading back through the thread though there's ones with lower numbers (down the list) than you who were called! If you hadnt applied for all posts you prob would have got the same letter as me, we prob only have a difference of a few marks if even! I don't think merit placing takes into consideration the initial test as i ran out of time in it and was shocked I'd even passed it lol

They are filling the pcos first I had applied for both so will prob just take the PCO position then they said I may be able to come across to co I'd rather get my foot in the door sooner than later I'm too impatient to wait and wait and wait tbh

Hey folks just for reference I was part of the recruitment last year and got offered a place all in all it took almost 9-10 months from when I applied to when I got an offer!

Unfortunately by that stage I had got myself into college and declined the job only to have them ring me back a month later and offer me another job, So don't be holding your breath if your just beyond the cutting point because them seem to offer you a second job if you decline the first giving you time to mull it over I suppose.

Best of luck anyway to all who have applied! Also it turns out as well that the tests for the prison service are exactly the same as the ones for the PSNI if anyone is interested, according to a friend of mine who went through that process!

Congrats on the job, I dare say you will be well settled in before any of us hear anything lol. Would love to know how many positions are available though.

Yeah same here, I asked will they definitely be looking numbers and she said yeah, and it'll be sooner rather than later so whether or not that happens is another thing but I'm going on the confidence that they will sooner rather than later lol

Some wee person sitting somewhere within the service MUST know of numbers needed even roughly! Would just be nice to know as guidance and simply because I'm impatient lol. If I hear nothing in the next few weeks I might give them a call and ask again. And then I'm away on hol for a while so knowing my luck ill get something in the post when away! Would be typical lol
