    People power me hole!
The only ones in unions these days are the spoilt brats in the PS and Semi State sector, eager to keep their snouts in the public trough and who dont give a toss who has to pay the bill for the greed and sense of entitlement!

Because large scale business has smashed up collective bargaining.

You have to wonder why a select 1% of the worlds population hold 40% of the worlds wealth.

And around 30 individuals living in new york own more cash than the lower 50% (by geography) of the united states, thats about 157 Million people.

Im no mad socialist or communist. But how in the hell is that right or just ?

For those talking up the Dublin Bus safety record failed to mention that the drivers get a yearly bonus if they don’t crash any buses. WTF is that nonsense. Tie that into the bonus they get for not calling in sick for more than 8 days a year and it highlights the type of employees the drivers are and the type of cowardly management style in the company.

Going by this thread why would a dublin bus employee give a flying f**k about someone else's problems? It's obvious that it will never be reciprocated.

No it is ironic to watch people call others greedy and self serving but they couldn't give a flying **** about anyone as long as they are alright.

250 euro for the year and it is scrapped under this deal.

Fair play to the bus drivers, its time that ordinary workers grew a backbone in this country and stood up to this crap of the powers that be chipping away at every little bit of pay conditions of workers, when the management are not applying the same cuts to their pay and conditions.

As for people who say "guess what I get for working sunday, i get to keep my job", Well why dont you apply for a better position or at least explain what your work schedule is? I know if I work Sunday, then I will have other days off during the week depending on what shift I am on.

No, I don't support the strikers. Their basic pay is not being touched, it's seems to be mainly the cutting of overtime rate that are the problem.

But you know what, overtime is not a certainty. There is no guarantee you will get overtime. Surely, if DB hired more full time / part time drivers, the overtime would dry up anyway?

It is not just about overtime as has been said numerous times, it is the entire deal and the lack of transparency.

The amount doesn't matter, why should they have been given/think they deserve to keep a bonus for doing what I would expect to be the minimum expectation of their job. It's like a builder demanding a bonus for the house they built not falling down.

Because if people commuting by bus get fired because of poor timekeeping caused by a second-rate bus system fewer people will be commuting to work by bus. This will lead to a drop in profits which will necessitate DB to cut more routes and lay off more drivers.

    Bus drivers inconvenience people
People don't want to/can't commute by bus (due to anger, unemployment, or just not trusting buses)
    Bus company loses money
Because bus company loses money they lay off drivers and cut routes

And the general public would be more inclined to give a toss if it didn't, from the outside at least, look like a bunch of well paid, securely employed people bitching that their overtime rate is being cut.

workers who are overpaid and backed by unions are not in any way ordinary in this country.

Overtime is not a right and the new rates have been the subject of 14 months negotiation a Labour Court recommendation and the LRC.
The only lack of transparence has been by the Unions trying to muddy the waters.

It is a small token recognition for a job well done, not that unusual in many employments.

The overtime is still going to be extremely generous, just not at the quite frankly outrageous levels of before.

Bonuses are usual tied into exceeding expectations, not the bare minimum. What about the bonus for not missing 8 days work a year?

Seems these so called skillful, great employees need bonuses just to show up in the morning and not crash their buses.

last year was 2012 that was in 2011, it only appeared because the DOT was doing a review of DB so it is not like there is a league table produced every year.

The figures come from 2012 and the bus drivers earnings are not significantly different now, second highest in gross in all of the EU. (Your figures actually put them higher than this report)

    Only private sector bus companies.
    Fair enough

Bus company loses money, can't lay off staff because of unions and the like, the taxpayer is now paying even more money for an even more substandard bus system. Bus fares go up again, causing even fewer people to take the bus. Public opinion turns against DB even more. Demand for privatised bus services increase, DB is sold off, the drivers are sacked to be replaced with cheaper, less entitled, workers.

    How's that?
