Ya, I've been reading up on it today and it seems that may indeed be the case :(. I'm sure there'll be a work around soon given the popularity of the phone, though that will probably require rooting.

And here is an awesome page with loads of video tutorials and giving links to files, plus the forum is really active if you need specific help. these guys KNOW their stuff!

Rooting is fairly straightforward on the HTC One.
A guy over on XDA has put today an all in one tool which is brilliant.
Just follow the sequence and it does it all for you.

Thanks for the links. Really good stuff there - rooting seems fairly straight forward now. I will probably leave it a little while before heading down that road but at least I know it's there if (when) I need it.

To be honest, I havent done it yet, although im confident its easy enough, I just dont see the point or any major benefit... I used to do it to all my phones, but after a while you just get in this loop where you are searching for the latest greatest tech, but using unofficial updates which dont work as well, miss a few little features I had loved or have bugs in. Things start to go wrong and then you spend more time fixing them than play with them!

Staying on the official updates means I have everything HTC are happy with and should work 100%. I may not have one or two cool features, but when something goes wrong, I know not to blame some new firmware. Im on 4.2.2 which is only slightly behind 4.3 and I dont feel im missing out, esp as HTC have been quite quick to get to the latest firmwares now

    its just my 2 cents...

That actually sums up how I feel pretty well too. After years of rooting and "staying ahead" I feel a little bit of burn out over the whole thing. I'm really enjoying 4.2.2 at the mo so no need for messing around (for the time being anyway!)

I'm sure this has been addressed but I can't seem to find it on a search -
how do you mute the text message delivery report sound - while keeping the textual delivery notification?

    Thanks.

I don't think you can. It's been like that on all HTC phones for years.
I ended up using Go SMS Pro instead. Just turn off all notifications in the stock app if you decide to go that route.

That's pretty annoying! It just sounds confusing when you get the same tone played back for both incoming and delivered messages. Strange that it's setup like that! I will prob just go with a third party app, such as the one you suggested.

    One other question -
I know you can control the TV using the phone but can it be used like a universal remote? I have an amp and a Humax Freesat box that I use along with Saorview. Can I program the phone like I can my beloved universal remote? If not can I at least control the TV, amp and Freesat box separately? I'm seem to only given the option to control the Saorview channels.

    Thanks!

Yeah, and you adding 'the time being' is just how I feel, I do love playing and seeing how far I can push things. This is prob the first device I have had that I havent done anything with. Im sure by the end of my contract I would have ignored everything I have said and rooted the core out of this bad boy!

My intention was to keep my new One stock for as long as possible. That said, I got home from the shop with it, set it up and was annoyed straight away because I didn't have any of my data from my old phone.
Within 2 hours I unlocked the boot loader, attempted root (which wasn't 100% successful) then installed android revolution Rom. I restored my titanium backup of apps and feel right at home again.

I am totally one of those people who has to have root and can't really explain the benefits to a lay person.

And android revolution is totally rock solid.

Its also practically the same as stock except for a few tweaks.
I love using the volume buttons to unlock the screen. I had tried the Google Edition Rom (4.3) but found it very bland as I use blinkfeed a lot and actually like it. I'm sure I'll switch though when the rom devs start to include it into the GE versions.

PS..anyone getting their phone beeping for no reason?
Mine does it every so often..with no notifications showing..think it could be mail related as I did turn off some notifications.

I asked this earlier, but I am going to ask it again.

My headset was robbed by my dog, had a fight with the lawnmower and now doesn't work too good. (by which I mean, not at all).

Anyone know where I can buy an official one, or at least know how I can tell the "mic headsets" that work from the ones that don't.

Anyone try updating to 4.2.2 and get a 'Update is Corrupted' message?

On an possibly unrelated note I also used my phone while jogging and installed the mapmyrun app to track my progress.
For the first 3 runs it synced fine between the app and the website but my last one won't sync for some reason.

Also used to listen to the music player while running and was fine on the first run but now it keeps skipping.
I have an old ipod 4th Generation which I used always use but that has recently started skipping too so this is a bit disappointing.
Anyone else here listen to music on it while jogging?

I have been using mapmyrun while listening to podcasts since I got it, and it has been absolutely fine throughout. No problem syncing, or no skipping of the sound.

Thanks; just curious but do you keep it in your thigh pocket or in something on your bicep or where? I put it into my shorts pocket so taught the movement might be causing it to skip but I only go about 11kmph so it's not crazy movement either.

Has anyone setup their HTC One with the Now TV Box from Sky? Used the TV app and selected the Now TV but no dice :(

I actually carry it in my hand! Didn't fancy having it banging around in my shorts, and felt it would be uncomfortable. Was going to get one of those bicep bands but think they look ridiculous!!

That they do; I was worried at first that it might fall out of the shorts pocket but they are fairly deep so it was grand. If yours is in your hand then you must be moving it more than me so it must be a problem with my device.
Back to the shop I go so.

Hmmm. I was out today, and didn't have a charger with me. Battery died completely. Now I'm in work, and it won't charge. No orange light, nadda.

Anyone got an easy way of transferring my contacts from an iPhone 5 to the HTC one. The transfer app can't connect to the iPhone for some reason.

There's an app on the apple store that syncs your contacts over to your gmail account and vica versa. Can't remember the name of it though sorry but there's a few of them there.
The transfer app is a pile of junk in fairness..couldnt' even sync my playlists with it either.

Is there much difference in quality of screen covers? Do some make it less responsive to touch than others, any ones you recommend please?
I've had my phone for about a week and already 1 scratch on it even though I've been careful not to have coins/car keys in the same pocket.

I got this one last week and it seems to be the business: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SPIGEN-SGP-Protector-Steinheil-Crystal/dp/B00BUF7EI0/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1375867171&sr=8-9&keywords=htc+one+screen+protector

It's quite thick but I don't notice it at all when I'm using the phone, it really doesn't look like there's a protector on it at all.
Edit: I had another expensive protector on my last phone made by Zagg. They will replace the protector if anything happens it (you pay postage) but I didn't like the feel of it at all and it was quite obvious that there was a cover on the phone.

I also bought this case, which looks great on the silver phone and seems to protect it well:

I was pressing my HTC logo there to see if it is a button, I read the XDA thread and you're really touching the screen just above the logo to wake.
