I doubt they wanted their original club to be taken over and renamed in the first place

Depends really, id imagine they jumped at the opertunity of money and promotion, you need to remember the scale of this club

But it isn't the same club now.

Does the idea of ultimately playing in a more competitive league not appeal to you?

Like I say, I'll reserve judgement, but if this worked out and Celtic FC eventually had some involvement, it could be a back door into a better league.

Don't expect UEFA or the EPL to do us any favours. You have to work the system.

yes id like t be in a more competitive league but this is not celtic fc we're talking about, it s a completely different club. God, we laugh at rangers fans who think they are still the same club and then you come along with this? Bizzarre

Lol at the self-righteous high-horses in here. Get over yourselves ffs, you'd swear I sold the family jewels off or something. I said it's an interesting idea, something to watch and that I'd reserve judgement. But anything that might help progress Celtic in the long term is worth looking at.

no high horses or anything here, its a different club you're talking about, nothing absolutely whatsoever to do with Celtic

Apparently wolves rejected 500,000 offer for Doyle. Is the game shown anywhere tomorrow night

Yesterday it was James McClean doing the rounds in the oirish media.

We are signing Derk Boerrigter as our wildcard for this round, he can play on the wing and up front. He's a sicknote, a very underwhelming signing tbh

    EDIT

Boerrigter @ Celtic Park before signing his contract

Id say more depth to the Doyle story, was reading up about Boerrigter yesterday. Could have potential but would need a little more than potential for 2 Million pounds give or take. Been a year since he had missed any games as result of his dodgy back by the looks so fingers crossed

The Irish media link every Irish player with Celtic when they dont get a game in English Football.

We were in the process of signing Derk Boerrigter for the Elfsborg game since the weekend. Lazy journalism which is par for the course in Ireland when it comes to Celtic.

    Alex O'Henley ‏@OHenleyAlex 20s

According to @sportbladet Peter Lawwell has asked Elfsborg not to play Mo Bangura but Elfsborg chairman Bo Johannson says Bangura will play.
    Marcus Christenson ‏@m_christenson 6m

Elfsborg chairman says #Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell emailed 2 say he doesnt want Bangura to play. 'But he'll play' Johansson tells @sportbladet

    The mind games ramp up

I meant the 'oirish' spelling,. Where did you see McClean linked btw? As for him not getting a game in England
Anyway i dont see the problem in media speculation, it goes on with every club, you make it seem the 'Irish media' (talk about generalising) have some sort of agenda with Celtic

Seems you're having a go for no particular reason

First heard it on the radio (either today fm or 2fm) yesterday saw articles from the Irish Indo and I cringed.

McClean's 2nd season was far from impressive and Di Canio is overhauling the whole squad at the moment, his place is far from guaranteed.

Not having a go for no particular reason, it was lazy journalism especially when Celtic had a bid accepted for another winger

CELTIC are delighted to announce the signing of Derk Boerrigter from Ajax on a four-year deal. And the Dutch winger will be available for tomorrow night’s UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against Elfsborg.

He'll be picking splinters out of his arse tomorrow night sitting on the bench! Cant see him starting considering his preparation for the game was a medical! Hopefully the worst is behind him and we'll finally have a proper left footed winger for the first time in a long time

Speaking of left wingers, did it ever emerge what happened with Alan Thompson getting sacked?

Drinking the **** out of it when the missus left him and setting a bad example for the players according to the Scottish Media. Himself & the club came to an amicable agreement over his dismissal so that why there hasnt been any mudslinging since then.

I heard that while his drinking was an issue, there was also issues between himself and some of the coaching staff over his wages. Seemingly he negotiated a very good contract when hired, far more than Mjallby or Parker for example.

Its as you were last week, Radio only. I'm sure Celtic TV will be broadcasting outside the UK & Ireland but like what happened at the weekend, expect the club to be able to knock off any stream within minutes of them coming online.

The 2nd leg will be broadcasted on TV though!

celtic are a shower of assholes for making the game unavailable to watch in ireland

ntv.mx. Sign up, verify your account via text and get a 7 day free trial. The game is on TV10 Sweden, which they have. The site is legitimate, I found it on XBMChub.

Us HSV fans aint so bad ;)

    Enjoy and good luck.

Thanks, maybe need to disable your account afterwards in case you start getting charged after the 7 free days

If Swedish TV are broadcasting it then it should be easier to get a stream than I first imagined.

It's possible to remove your number from your account right after you verify, well it was when I had a trial anyway. No credit card info needed or name/address, so no worries about being charged after the trial.

    http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/celtic/234603-uefa-rules-allow-celtic-to-open-up-extra-space-in-champions-league-squad/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Celtic have been able to free up a space in their squad for the UEFA Champions League thanks to a registration clause which encourages the inclusion of young players developed by clubs.

Adam Matthews, normally a member of the club's main selection, has been moved to a secondary list because the 21-year-old has now been with the Scottish champions for two years.

Neil Lennon's men have a current lack of home grown talent as first team regulars. Just three "locally trained" players - Scott Brown, Charlie Mulgrew and James Forrest - have been named in their 19-man main squad for the third qualifying round tie with Elfsborg.

A large number of youngsters are also in contention through the competition's "List B" system, designed to allow clubs to name an unlimited number of players in their squad who are born after January 1, 1992 and have been with the club for two years uninterrupted since their 15th birthday.

So Boerrigter took Hoopers place in the main squad list which was "full" and now we have one more space for a signing because of the situation with Matthews.

Celtic team to play Elfsborg in tonight's UEFA Champions League third round qualifier:

CELTIC (4-4-2) Forster; Lustig, Ambrose, Wilson, Izaguirre; Forrest, Brown, Kayal, Commons; Samaras, Stokes
Subs: Zaluska, Matthews, Ledley, Balde, Mulgrew , Mouyokolo, Watt

Gonna miss the 2nd half tonight, playing ball myself, but hopefully the tie will be dead and buried by then! :pac:

    EDIT

    Mo Bangura starts for Elfsborg!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,920 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Bangura starts for Elfsborg, can't say I blame him. He has no future at Celtic and this is a great opportunity to make a name for himself.

Just hope he plays the same tonight as he did at Celtic

Lennon hasnt written off his future at Celtic and this situation is something they cannot blame the player for imo, horrible situation for him to be in, but its likely that this will be a situation that he cant come back to Celtic from. I thought he was very unlucky with injury in his 1st season with us and I reckon he'll be a handful for our backline. They are going to be sharp enough
